[The Mississippi House approved a bill that would require women seeking abortions to acknowledge when unborn children have detectable heartbeats, in some cases necessitating invasive transvaginal ultrasounds. There is no provision in the House Bill 1196 exempting women who have been victims of rape or incest.]

You're the ones trying to force invasive and competely unnecessary medical procedures to bully a patient into doing what you want them to do.
Why not also make them get a mammogram, a colonoscopy and spend a day in a hyperbaric chamber?
invasive transvaginal ultrasounds
In some states, this constitutes rape.
"Sometimes it's rape, but most of the time, it's not,"
Yeah, just fuck over the rape victims. They're a minority anyway. (Which is pretty telling of what she thinks of other minorities.)
We are the ones who allow ourselves to be vulnerable to a pregnancy,"
As if one could become pregnant by osmosis. Um, "Rep." Rita, you do remember that it takes two to tango, right?!
Then I'll rape you, and it'll be ok, right?

It's not constitutional, that's for sure. It needs to be taken to the Supreme Court, where it would be shot down."
Um, no. Conservatives have packed the supreme court with judicial activists specifically to not shoot down things like this.
We're the ones who remove our pants, are we not? We are the ones who allow ourselves to be vulnerable to a pregnancy
If you ever got raped (and I hope you don't as I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even a shithead like you) I somehow think you'd change your tune. Or more likely, you'd just claim that that doesn't apply to you.
We're the ones who remove our pants, are we not
You sleep with men who don't bother to remove their pants for you? How very, very sad for you.
Rape apologists are despicable, but somehow female rape apologists are just even worse.
BTW, requiring an invasive transvaginal ultrasound by law is basically rape by the government.
My goodness, now WOMEN are saying that they are responsible for being raped. Only in A-fucking-merica...
Religion must die RIGHT NOW.
This is a horrible thing to say, and I'm as liberal as anyone here, but COME ON! When I come to FSTDT, I want to read about religion. If I want politics, I'll go to Daily Kos.
"We're the ones who remove our pants, are we not?"
well, actually, no, not always.
a woman is vulnerable to a pregnancy between menarche and menopause. Unless they use birth control.
Rita supports Birth control for all women of child bearing age !!
The States are allowed to decide how an abortion is conducted, but this is getting a little out of hand. Getting an abortion has become a circus act because of a small group of rabid animals and a larger group of dumb animals too stupid to realize they're being led off a cliff and back into the dark.
I don't like using words like 'animal' to describe other people, but this is becoming insane. It's hurting women and yes even children in the end.
It takes two to tango, stupid. There is a man somewhere, who also removed his pants and allowed himself to be vulnerable to a pregnancy. Why not subject him to a invasive prostate examination, while we're at it. It has as much bearing on the abortion as the heartbeat of the fetus.
Don't cancer tumors have blood pumping through them as well?
What about tape-worms and other parasites, don't they have some kind of hearts?
Too bad these people don't feel a tenth of this compassion for the heartbeats (and brain activity) of starving children in Somalia. If they did, we'd have the famine problem fixed tomorrow.
Having 3 best friends who have been raped at diffrent ages in there lifes I can say, with out a doubt, that I hope you get raped. I want you to feel the mental & physical pain that people who have been raped feel. Then I hope you die in a fire.

Four words, 'pro-lifers': Roe versus. Wade, bitches.
I recall the late R.A.H. (Robert Anson Heinlein) had Lazarus Long say that those that decry the works of man while glorifying the works of nature must feel man is unnatural and is therefore running on self-hatred.
That's *EXACTLY* how I feel about these female misogynistic piggies that propose these asinine laws.
News Flash, ladies, you do not become less female by grinding all other women under your heels.
YEAH! screw those women who like to have sex. they are all prostitutes anyways. its not like they have RIGHTS or FREEDOMS like every other human being. its not like a man has ever slipped their condom without telling the woman. or like their contraceptives didnt work.
this is still an incredibly misogynist bill, but if you have to pick an arbitrary point for "life" to begin at, a heartbeat is actually a pretty good choice.
There are two things not mentioned here:
First, not only will women be required to submit to this state-sanctioned rape with an ultrasound wand, they will also be required to PAY for the scan--a fee of up to $1200 dollars, which acts as a two-fer as far as stopping women from getting the abortions for which they've already had to find a way to scrape up several hundred dollars.
Second, in at least one state that has proposed this same law, in a truly Orwellian touch of which only Republicans are capable, the doctor or technician performing the scan is required to place the screen in a position that is visible to the woman, and is also REQUIRED TO WRITE IT DOWN IN THE WOMAN'S MEDICAL RECORD if she turns her head or refuses to look at the screen.
It's depressing that dear Rita was actually put into office by the people. Given that half the population is composed of women, sheer idiocy is the only explanation for people like her holding any position of power.
In the end, the voters fully deserve what they get, and deserve it long and hard.
@ Swede
They don't even care about the starving children in their own country. The only cause nearer to their hearts than this and gay marriage is putting an end to welfare, food stamps, and school lunch/breakfast programs for the poor.
@ Anon-e-moose
Roe v. Wade is hanging by a thread, and could easily be overturned. The fundies have been trying for years to get cases into the Supreme Court to do just that, and with Dubya's appointments, they could succeed. Even one of Obama's appointees, Sonya Sotomayor, is a Catholic who opposes abortion, but promised she'd view it as "settled law" if she were appointed, which should give no woman any comfort.
Self-hating female rape apologist?!? GTFO my gender, NOW! And don't ever have children, male OR female.
Edit:
@#1384740: Are you serious?!? So I'd have to PAY to be wand-raped, and THEN, if I don't wan't to look at the screen (maybe I'm squeamish or something?), they have to put that in my medical record??? Remind me to *never* go south of Arkansas!
@Reynardine: That law being in Pennsylvania makes it worse! I live in Missouri, so I know we're backwards, but I thought the more Northern states were more rational. Shows what I knew.
*sigh* ... Does Canada have any openings?
Hey, what happened to the conservatives' proposal for "less government involvement"?
Oh wait, there are some exceptions, like THIS one!
@RiJayden: Canada has its own problems right now, and it's not far enough from these wingnuts in my opinion. Come to Australia, it's like the Warm Canada, we even have our own Canada (smaller, colder country that's only just different enough to not be another state) that we call New Zealand.
Weather is lovely in Sydney, this summer we reached tops of 26'C. We don't have earthquakes, tornados or hurricanes. And contrary to what you may have heard our animals are not that deadly if you live in the cities, which everyone does.
Wow, okay, Martinson lady, please go shoot yourself in the vocal chords. I don't care if you actually manage to die so long as you remove your capacity to say words.
"We are the ones who allow ourselves to be vulnerable to a pregnancy"
So what? Getting pregnant is a woman's business. Having an abortion is still a woman's business, and remains so even if she consented to sex and did not use contraception. Hell, it would be their right to have an abortion even if they wanted to get pregnant in the first place. Sadly, abortion has to be defended, and saying "it's not their fault, they were raped" just assumes that it WOULD be their fault otherwise.
Sometimes it's rape, but most of the time, it's not
Seeing as how rape is one of our nation's least reported crimes, you have absolutly NO way of proving that, do you?
We're the ones who remove our pants, are we not?
Yes, because a rapist can't be bothered to unbutton pants.
I find this horrifying, and I'm not even American. I feel so sorry for you guys when it comes to bullshit like this, because frankly, I think they're winning. :/
@#1384755
"Roe v. Wade is hanging by a thread, and could easily be overturned."
Even if that came to pass (but then, why has it taken so long, since 1973; even Prohibition didn't last that long...!), how can they stop pregnant women going to, say, Canada or Mexico...?
I'm not a doctor or anything, but wouldn't a needlessly invasive surgery risk the health of both the mother and fetus as well as cost the healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars annually if applied as a standard, thus straining budgets and leaving America (or any other country stupid enough to do this) less capable of dealing with an actual crisis due to lack of funds and hospital resources?
Why do these idiots think women make a decision like that in some off-hand manner as though they were oblivious to the potential of life growing within them? I'm a fucking man - I'll never be pregnant - and yet I can grasp fairly well the gravity of it. Hell, any woman who doesn't have at least my level of concern for the act should be scorned by society. There I said it. Tar and feather me if you will but that's what I believe.
Abortions aren't some contraceptive afterthought you half-wit. Over and above rape cases there's also life-threatening congenital defects, deformities, and other complications that would make every second of the short life that results Hell on Earth for the child should it come to term and ending the pregnancy before cognition develops can be a mercy if not the only option to save the mother's life.
Beyond even those medical issues pro-lifers ignore is a parent's ability to care for a child which includes mental fitness as well as the financial stability required. That seems like a copout to some and maybe it even is with adoption agencies in existence (though many have a slew of horror stories under their belts) but damned if those considerations don't torment any woman walking into the clinic.
Don't demean their situation as you assume they do themselves. It's sickening.
"Sometimes it's rape, but most of the time, it's not," she said. "We're the ones who remove our pants, are we not? We are the ones who allow ourselves to be vulnerable to a pregnancy,"
So once again we have pregnancy as punishment for "sluts". What a douche.
Uh, rape victims aren't the ones that remove their pants, dumbass, because they'd only do so with consent. Go die in a fire.
I hate it when women are misogynists.
And the guy unzipped his pants and got an erection. See, it's all his fault! Makes as much sense. (Well, it IS all his fault if he's raping women.) But in a consensual sexual encounter, stop blaming it all on the female gender. He could have chose to not have sex as much as she could have.
The name Todd Akin ring any bells, dearie...? Well, if you - like him - want to commit electoral suicide, you go right ahead in alienating at least half of your potential electorate.
Confused?
