Taking all of an hour to research (might be sloppy as a result) I discovered several inventors that might make the world want to punch you in the face for that crack. And pretty much everything else you say on the average day.

George Edward Alcorn Jr. - Rocket scientist. Co-developed the radio frequency mass spectrometor amongst other spectral imaging devices.

Benjamin Banneker - Responsible for the Farmer's Almanac. If you're a farmer, you basically can't live without it.

Nathaniel Alexander - He invented the folding chair. (It's really the little things that just rock the world sometimes.)

Edmond Berger - Invented the spark plug, essential for combustion engines like those used in cars.

Bessie Blount Griffin - She designed the first medical feeding tubes allowing totally immobilized patients to feed themselves.

Otis Boykin - If it's an electronic device, chances are the variable electrical resistors he invented are inside it. He also patented a heart stimulation control unit and chemical air filters.

Marie Brown - Along with Sidney Jacoby she designed first home security system and smoke alarms.

Robert G. Bryant - NASA Scientist. Half the shit he does is classified, the other half is awesome. Such as the creation of LaRC-SI thermoplastic.

George Washington Carver - The man literally did not do anything that wasn't awesome. On top of thousands of fix-it-yourself pointers, medicinal salves, and budget tightening strategies for poor white families in the states that would have been happy to slap chains on him like his parents, (his mother was taken by Confederate soldiers and his father's identity was thought to be a slave,) it is no exaggeration to say the entire American South owed it's agricultural survival in it's entirety to this man after decades of being a two-crop economy on depleted soil. By the way he turned down a six figure salary to continue a life dedicated to inventing things to help people in a non-profit manner. Awarded several honors by Theodore Roosevelt and was the first black man inducted into the British Scientific Fellowship. And because it can't be stressed enough: Invented fucking peanut butter.

Benjamin Carson - Neurosurgery pioneer. With 90+ published works and innumerable acheivements to his name he's pushed the field ahead considerably during his career.

David Crosthwait - He's the reason you can have a hot shower while living in a massive apartment complex.

Charles Drew - He isolated blood plasma for transfusions and started the Blood Bank. If you've ever undergone serious surgery, you just might owe this man your sad, sorry sack-of-shit life. You definitely know someone who already does.

Philip Emeagwali - Nigerian computer engineer that designed the current record holder for most badass supercomputer in existence.

Meredith Gourdine - He's responsible for ElectroGasDynamics systems. From that he went on to invent the means to clear harmful smoke from a burning building, clear the fog from an airport runway, desalinize sea water, and use natural gas for electricity. He also won the silver medal for the long jump in the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Lloyd Augustus Hall - He invented food preservatives. Without him there would be no junk food. We frown on it now, but in his own time he was a godsend.

Frederick Jones - Prolific inventor, but best known for designing the first refrigeration unit for long-haul shipping trucks eliminating the risk of spoilage for perishable items like food.

Percy Julian - Synthesized cortisone for arthritis treatments and physostigmine for glacouma. Also made an extinguishing foam to combat oil fires.

Ernest Just - Cellular biologist. Advanced the field tremendously on a part-time basis. Repeat that: Ground breaking researcher employed only during summers but made more progress than every other full-time researcher combined.

Elijah McCoy - Prolific inventor and source of the phrase "The real McCoy" for the sheer quality of his inventions and adaptations. His most valued contribution was a mechanical lubricant.

Garret Morgan - Invented the gas mask and the traffic signal. In 1903 (invention of the automobile) the roads were chaos and accidents more likely than an eventless trip until his lights were implemented.

I could go on, boy could I ever, but I'll stop now and see if you're following me. They have three things in common: You can't imagine life without their contributions, they're black, and they are far more praise worthy than you will ever be in your life.

Now just try and justify YOUR pathetic existence to us.

Hmm....so you've met all or at least the majority of African-Americans and held in-depth conversations with them on the importance of higher learning and most of us told you we had no interest in higher learning? Interesting. You should publish these results in some professional and accredited scientific or academic publication/venue. But I have to say I don't ever remember some researcher or pollster coming to my house and polling me on my thoughts about higher education. If you did you'd find that this particular black man views it as very important. I'd have to since I'm currently finishing my Master's Degree in Economics.

I'm also interested in your findings with white Republican voters. Given only 6% of scientists in the US self-identify as Republican. Republicans make up 45-55% of white American voters but only 6% of American scientists. Hmm...

I know about the early African civilizations, I'm not contesting their existence. Troll4Life's comment implies that civilization was "invented" by African people and then shared with the rest of the world. This notion is, of course, ridiculous. Civilization isn't "invented" it's a societal state of existence that arises as a consequence of sedentarism and food production. To talk about which group of people developed civilization first has little meaning since civilization arose independently in many parts of the world.

Troll4Life does have a point that much of Europe was, for a long time, comparably primitive in terms of civilization compared to other parts of the world, such as Africa and the Middle East (although the part about uncooked meat is completely false, since humans living in Europe have had fire for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of years, and thus have cooked their food), and even the ancient Greeks and Romans were relative latecomers. However, she seems to think that the "cultural legacy" of a group of people is entirely dependent on how long they've had an advanced civilization for. This is completely retarded.

Furthermore, talking about the "cultural legacy of white people" is also retarded since there is no single, unified ethnic/cultural group of "white people". The concept of different races exists as a social construct only; it has no basis in biology and is entirely meaningless when comparing different cultures and ethnic groups. The early Celtic people and the early Germanic tribes were two entirely different cultural groups, and yet they could both be considered as "white people".

In addition, the claim that "[a]ll of the secrets of modern science ... are already present in the earliest African structures [civilizations? societies?]" is preposterous and demonstrates Troll4Life's complete lack of even a basic understanding of what modern science is. The beginnings of what would eventually develop into modern science can be traced back to the Islamic Golden Age, which was a period in time that occurred long after the rise of the first African civilizations. Her point about architecture is meaningless as well since every civilization developed their own style of architecture.

So I stand by what I said. Troll4Life fails again since she continues to talk about things she knows little about.

I have to cosign #1385597's posts. That's a pretty fair and objective view of history. I only slightly disagree with the part about the Islamic Golden Age. Some of the discoveries of the Islamic Golden Age were re-discoveries of some ancient knowledge that had been lost in medieval times; and some Africans were also part of the Islamic Golden Age (such as the Mali/Songhai Empire, the Kanem-Bornu, the Somali and Swahili states, etc.) The Islamic empires weren't limited to the Middle East, it also spanned into northern/northwestern/northeastern Africa, southeastern Europe and central and southern Asia.

Other than that I agree. His4Life's comments could pretty much equally be applied to people in central and southern Africa prior to 500-1000 CE and to people in northeastern Asia prior to 200-750 CE.

@His4Life - I agreed with some of the points you were making but you're ruining it with the sardonic comments and the thing about homosexuality. Being African-American myself I can confirm there is quite a bit of "down-low" activity in the African-American community (don't know about in continental Africa or the Caribbean or among Afro-Latinos). White Americans and Europeans just have a higher number of openly gay/"out" homosexuals and bisexuals. In the black American community gay/bisexual people (particularly men) often lie about it and keep it a secret due to prevalent homophobia and conservative religious values that are still rampant in our community. Maybe it has to do with West African cultural origins but African-Americans also tend to see male heterosexuality and masculinity as inherently linked. Being gay in the black community is perceived as being somehow less of a man by many, so most gay and bi men pretend to be super-straight and super-masculine publicly.

I agree and I hate it when white supremacists and white nationalists float this "Primitive Black Man" myth that became of a staple of European colonialist apologetics - that myth that black people around Africa were all just a bunch of Stone Age tribesman who could barely set a fire before the Great White Man showed up. And white supremacists love to float that little detail about most African societies lacking the wheel to justify it (as if lacking the wheel implies they lacked every other technological advancement). My response to them is: "Most European societies lacked an indigenous writing system and some basic medicine before it was introduced to them by outsiders, does that mean Europe lacked everything else? Native Americans (in North and South America) lacked the plow and most Asians lacked basic hot-blast iron-smelting technology before modern times, that doesn't mean they lacked everything else as well."

But, exaggeration about how far behind Europe was before the past 500 years doesn't help the case of spreading the truth about Africa outside of the "Primitive Black Man" colonialist mythology. That can hurt the case and cause people to just write the truth off as "Afrocentrist mythology".

As no school I am aware of has kept records of every student's ethnicity alongside their test scores since the passing of several laws making that illegalI am forced to assume one of two things: Either you are referring to the results of tests perfomed by an exceptionally racist psychologist several decades ago doing a blanket comparison between of the overall GPA and a random sample of individual students from one school in a middle-class gated community that quietly blocked non-whites from buying property there and one school in a run-down poverty-stricken ghetto populated by poor blacks and some 'white trash' that found students of the former regularly scored higher than the latter, conveniently neglecting to note financial disparities between the two... Or you are talking out of your ass and citing statistics from Stormfront and Niggermania.

There are inscriptions in some early African buildings that resemble flying machines of various kinds, including rockets and discs. It was this technology that the white establishment tried to steal later in history. I'm doing a study on Freemasonry (which actually has African origins, before it was corrupted into a satanic organization) and the pieces are starting to fit together. This is why millions of Africans were maade slaves. Do you really think it was just about labor, when the white Europeans already had identured servants through the prison system and child labor? They were trying to find Africans who would reveal the secrets of a Masa-Mazon, or "Master Mason," to them, including the Divine Name Y-H-W-H. The Africans who either didn't know the secrets or wouldn't give them up became slave labor.

I will have to look it up for you and post a link. There has been a History Channel documentary about it. These artifacts have been examined and dated to around 300 b.c. There are sculptures of people with African, rather than Native American, features.

Also, here's an interesting bit of trivia - did you know that the capital may have been designed by a black man named Benjamin Banneker? A French architect (and Freemason, incidentally) named L'Enfant stole the plans from him, but Banneker was able to reproduce the city layout from memory. George Washington actually invited Banneker to sign the Constitution as the "delegate of the negroe people," but some of the more racist foundating fathers vetoed the idea. He also exchanged letters with Thomas Jefferson on a regular basis.
