Quote# 86660

"I don't care what the liberals say, I don't care what the naysayers say, this nation was founded as a Christian nation...There is only one God and his name is Jesus. I'm tired of people telling me that I can't say those words.. Listen to me, If you don't love America, If you don't like the way we do things I have one thing to say - GET OUT. We don't worship Buddha, we don't worship Mohammad, we don't worship Allah, we worship God, we worship God's son Jesus Christ."

In a revival type speech, Greenwell Springs Baptist Church pastor Rev. Dennis Terry introduced Family Research Council president Tony Perkins and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Christians, according to Rev. Terry, are the conscience of the state and even the key to turning the economy around. The pastor offered some pointed words about abortion, gay marriage, and prayer in schools, shouting about 'sexual perversion' and putting God back in Washington, D.C., as Senator Santorum was seen clapping, if not cheering, in the background.

I thought fundie Baptists like this guy didn't consider Catholics like Santorum "real Christians," but I could be mistaken.

@1386657:

The uber-fundie Baptist/evangelical types don't, and never have, considered Catholics (including Santorum) "real Christians." However, as the saying goes, "Politics makes for strange bedfellows" -- RS says enough of the "correct" things, ESPECIALLY on social issues, that they'll overlook the Papism, at least for now.

Fundies Make Me Sick

"I don't care what the liberals say, I don't care what the naysayers say," - And I don't care what you say.

"this nation was founded as a Christian nation" - No it wasn't. Period. Deal with it.

"There is only one God and his name is Jesus." - Every other theistic religion disagrees with you (I say this as a Christian).

"I'm tired of people telling me that I can't say those words" - No one says you can't say them but just because you say them doesn't make them true.

"Listen to me, If you don't love America, If you don't like the way we do things I have one thing to say - GET OUT." - Okay, then go to Saudi Arabia because in America we have freedom of religion and you seem to not like that.

"We don't worship Buddha, we don't worship Mohammad, we don't worship Allah, we worship God, we worship God's son Jesus Christ." - Actually, different people in America worship all those deities (individually). Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on this country. It can't, per the Establishment Clause.

In closing, to Rev. Terry, Rick Santorum and ESPECIALLY Tony Perkins, fuck all of you with a gigantic, iron, rusty, poison-tipped needle. Repeatedly. Then die in a fire.

"There is only one God and his name is Jesus. I'm tired of people telling me that I can't say those words"

I'm tired of you pretending that anyone is stopping you. So we can add Dennis Terry to the whining bullshitters list,,,,getting awfully long that list.

Christian don't run the country nor have you ever. You are the parasite, mostly benign, riding along in a secular society.

@Anon:

He's obviously a fool, but I don't think he's lying. There is an astonishing level of ignorance among many American Christians about other religions. Most of them seem to think that Buddha is worshiped as a creator-deity, which just goes to show that they literally don't know the first thing about Buddhism. <<

But, by this point, Terry has been told many times by many people how he has completely misunderstood their religion (or lack there of, for the atheists, agnostics, and some strains of Buddhism and Unitarian Universalism). He has to be deliberately either not listening to them or continuing to say things that he knows aren't true.

Perhaps he is both a fool and a liar. I do not know.

Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and their fellow founders would like to have a word with you about that.

Rick Santorum is finished as a presidential hopeful. Let him clap at whatever he wants.

Yeah, well, I say that Christians are stupid, and we worship FSM, and if you don't, GTFO! Yay! I said those with my own brain, Mommy, so it must be right!

I wonder if this guy, and people like him, have ever actually read the Constitution, Treaty of Tripoli, and every other document from that time period that states that this country is founded on secular principles...

Probably not.

I can't wait until the day this lie dies.

Actually, you can worship whoever you want. That is rather the point of freedom of religion, is it not?

And "if you don't like it here go somewhere else" might be a valid debating technique when you're in junior school, but it's monumentally stupid any time after puberty.

The people telling the truth about this country are yeasayers. Christian nationalist fuckers like you are the naysayers, denying reality.

I wonder what Jack Chick would say, certainly re. the Repubican nominations? I know what Ian Paisley (the Northern Irish politician/preacher, who'd make the mere reding of the phone directory infinitely more terrifying than Revelation) would, re. Frothy Muxture; him being hyper-rabidly anti-Catholic and all; 'Papists', and all that jazz.

The Religious Right in the US - certainly re. abortion & contraception - are clearly trying to out-catholicise the Catholic Church. Seems that all of Martin Luther's, King Henry VIII's, King William of Orange's, Oliver Cromwell's, and King James I's work, re. Protestantism, was ultimately all for naught.

I don't care what a lying, delusional fundie who's totally ignorant of US history has to say.

Allah is another word for God. Nobody worships Buddha or Mohammad.
