Quote# 86725

It's amazing that whenever the "Armenian Genocide" is referred to in Western media, journalists seem to fall all over themselves in presenting the perspective totally from the Armenian propaganda machinery. Whenever there is an attempt to present "the other side," the passage is usually preceded by "The Turkish Government claims..."

What every person needs to do is look at the facts. If there were REAL proof of government- sponsored evil planned against the Armenians, a people who peacefully lived with and prospered beside the Turks for over five centuries, it would be Turks crying out against such horrors before most everyone else...

The often told "Armenian Genocide" tale ... a tale told hardly with any opposition in nations sympathetic to the "Christian" Armenians ... has been so ingrained within people's belief systems that any attempt to shed light on the actual truth is often violently rejected. Why, everyone knows those Turks were bloodthirsty savages!

Even the Turkish officials at the time admitted that their treatment and explusion of the Armenias had been 'regrettably harsh'.

Your assertion that Armenians were left alone is as much bogus as the idea that Turks are bloodthirsty savages. The Syrian, Armenian and other genocides were the death throes of a failing empire unable to accept that the people contained in its borders were no longer willing to obey their masters. I find it disappointing that so many Turkish people today can't help but get defensive over something none of them were a part of. And in fact, the modern Turkish republic rejected the old system of their empire to modernize. That means letting go of old prejudices as well. Turkish people have done as much good in the world as bad, but don't feed me some story about how I'm somehow prejudices for being apalled at one of the more apalling chapters in their history.

There is footage of the British Navy evacuating Armenians as their villages were being shelled in 1915.

The Turks may have treated them harshly but it was NOT GENOCIDE, as an atheist raised in the jewish tradition I find using genocide to describe what happened to be incredibly insensitive and downright inaccurate as historical records show.

Sorry, Zeynab, you've been sold a bill of goods.

@ unhappy: Are you one of those tiresome people who think that because "only" one million Armenians were exterminated, it wasn't "real" genocide? Guess what? At that time, there were"only" two million Armenians in the world. The other million were where the Turks couldn't get them. But they tried. They planned to invade Transcaucasian Armenia to do it, which caused the Transcaucasian Republic to voluntarily unite with the Soviet Union.

I wish you had not identified yourself as a Jew. It just gives fuel to antisemites who use self-pitying narcissists like you to "prove" the stereotype of all Jews as whiny.

incredibly insensitive

Yeah, you know, Jews don't have a monopoly on being genocided.

And if the Turks ever want to join the EU, they gonna have to fess up.

The deliberate killing of a large group of people, esp. those of a particular ethnic group or nation.

It's refreshing to see someone deny a genocide that's not the Holocaust. I was getting so tired of the run-of-the mill denialists.

Brendan Rizzo

Yes yes, and the Nazis claimed the Jews were treated well in concentration camps. What's your point?

3/31/2012 11:32:06 AM

Way to make the rest of us Jews look bad, asshole. "Your genocide wasn't as bad as our genocide so therefore it wasn't a real genocide." From my perspective that's essentially what you just said you filth.

If it wasn't a genocide, then what would you call the murder of a million Armenians then?

I think we have to remember that in the west the Armenian Genocide is not as well understood as many other ones for several reasons. First it happened during World War I and in a part of the world that the US wasn't as directly involved in at the time.

The biggest reason for a lack of understanding about it is the fact that Turkey became a NATO member whereas Armenia got caught up in the Soviet Union. So the west either looked the other way or bought what the Turkish government was selling about the genocide in order to advance their strategic interests.

Have you even done any research towards this matter?

'I am criticised for disagreeing with facts, therefore I am being persecuted' part #752953

"I find it disappointing that so many Turkish people today can't help but get defensive over something none of them were a part of."

Many in the USA get defensive about the extermination of the native peoples (just as here in Australia). And most Germans are still a little sore about that kerfuffle in the 1940s. A result of Nationalism is that we usually lump the actions of all within a nation into the category of "Us", even when it makes little sense.

Here are some legit quotes by turkish officials taken from discrete letters to various european embassies in the times of World War I (P.S. Zeynab, u fucking hating muslimbitch! let us not forget the massacres led through out history in the name of Islam.. La Ilahaa Illa Allah..NOT):
Enver Pasha : One of the triumpharate rulers publicly declared on 19 May 1916...
"The Ottoman Empire should be cleaned up of the Armenians and the Lebanese. We have destroyed the former by the sword, we shall destroy the latter through starvation."

In reply to US Ambassador Morgenthau who was deploring the massacres against Armenians and attributing them to irresponsible subalterns and underlings in the distant provinces, Enver's reply was...
"You are greatly mistaken. We have this country absolutely under our control. I have no desire to shift the blame onto our underlings and I am entirely willing to accept the responsibility myself for everything that has taken place."
Talat Pasha : In a conversation with Dr. Mordtmann of the German Embassy in June 1915...
"Turkey is taking advantage of the war in order to thoroughly liquidate (grundlich aufzaumen) its internal foes, i.e., the indigenous Christians, without being thereby disturbed by foreign intervention."

After the German Ambassador persistently brought up the Armenian question in 1918, Talat said "with a smile"...
"What on earth do you want? The question is settled. There are no more Armenians."
Cemal Pasha : To a German officer upon seeing the deportations in Mamure said...
"I am ashamed of my nation (Ich schame mich fur meine Nation)."

Minister of the Interior of Turkey publicly declared on March 15 that on the basis of computations undertaken by Ministry Experts...
“800,000 Armenian deportees were actually killed... by holding the guilty accountable the government is intent on cleansing the bloody past."
