Quote# 86841

I believe atheists are taking a huge risk on their lives, eternity is a long time to be separated from God in hell. They say they do not believe in such things, but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true. Atheists no deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death and would not attack people of different faiths. I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these fallen angels in the end times as revelation talks about.

What you believe doesn't actually matter, because there's no proof. God probably doesn't exist, and there's probably nothing after death. Deal with it.

Who says atheists are afraid of death? Or at least any more than the average person. I would submit that religious people are more afraid of death. Atheists don't fear what comes after death. Religious people (and some Christians in particular) spend their lives being miserable just because they fear what they think might happen to them after they die.

And personally, since the Bible does a pretty good job of portraying God as a murderous petty tyrant, I'd want to spend my eternity as far away from Him as possible.

I'm not afraid of death and I try to save my attacks on religious people to those who would impose their faith on me.

"Atheists no deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death..."

Ok, will someone please explain to me how this makes ANY sense? If God didn't exist, we wouldn't be afraid to die? That is literally the opposite of reality. Generally, it's the religious folks who don't fear death due to their belief that they get extra lives.

So... is this like projection on their part?

"I believe monotheists are taking a huge risk on their lives, eternity is a long time to be separated from Odin in Hel. They say they do not believe in such things, but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true. Monotheists know deep down that Valhalla exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death and would not attack people of different faiths. I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these fallen angels in Ragnarok."

Fixed.

I believe atheists are taking a huge risk on their lives...

Well, but that's their risk, not yours. Do your part as a human being and leave them alone if they don't want to be pestered.

but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true

What you describe are "facts" which form the basis of mankind's knowledge. Facts are proven by peer review, are indisputable and repeatable when tested.

The basis of religion is "faith" which is belief in something with no proof or confirmation in doing so. Since there is no scientific test for God that exists, all you have in religion is faith. Please learn the difference.

Atheists no deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death and would not attack people of different faiths.

Now here's where I say to keep your arrogant presumption to yourself and STFU.

I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these fallen angels in the end times as revelation talks about.

You're bat-shit crazy. Please seek psychiatric and/or medical help.

I believe christianists are taking a huge risk on their lives, eternity is a long time to be separated from Allah in hell. They say they do not believe in such things, but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true. Christianists no deep down that Allah exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death and would not attack people of different faiths. I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is Jinn is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these Jinn in the end times as the koran talks about.

They say they do not believe in such things, but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true.

So what you're saying is that it that God only cares if you happen to be right, not if you're sincere and honest? I guess that's why Christians have always loved Pascal's Wager; no need to honestly assess your beliefs, just say you believe in Jesus as an insurance policy.

Atheists no deep down that God exists

Oh, so now you're a mind reader, too? Get behind the other 90 million apologists who also think they can read our minds.

otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death

What? I'm sorry but dying is scary, it's supposed to be. That's what makes us want to run away from predators and give up our wallets to muggers. Those that weren't afraid of getting killed ended up becoming food.

and would not attack people of different faiths

Are you admitting that a belief in God makes people intolerant? Because that's exactly what you're saying.

I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise

Yeah, and I believe that unicorns dance on Saturn's rings in October. Of course, opinion (especially wild, uneducated speculation) is useless in determining facts.

Atheists no [sic] deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death

You got it backwards: Religious people are afraid of death; otherwise, they wouldn't invent nonsense about heaven or hell.

"I believe atheists are taking a huge risk on their lives, eternity is a long time to be separated from God in hell."

Should this whole Heaven thing turn out to be correct and the fundies are actually right, eternity would also be a long time to be stuck with such people.

"They say they do not believe in such things, but what we believe does not matter, it matters if what we believe is true."

But, you just said it doesn't matter what we believe which implies that whether or not it's true is equally irrelevant.

"Atheists no deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death and would not attack people of different faiths."

I have no fear of death. I also have no wish to speed it up either, unlike you religious folk who can't wait for The End.

And no, I don't "know" that any god exists, and neither do you.

"I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these fallen angels in the end times as revelation talks about."

Revelation was a coded message to Christians contemporary to its writing urging them to "keep the faith," as it were, because Rome would fall "any day now." At least that's the scholarly, non-fundamentalist, non-crank version that I believe to be the current consensus.

It's ok. If aliens are fallen angels and they invade, then Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith can defeat them with a Powerbook, just like last time.

Since when have atheists attacked people of different faiths? Or been afraid of death, for that matter? It seems like these are more along the lines of things Christians do.

4/11/2012 8:12:42 AM

JohnTheAtheist

You believe in this and you believe in that...atheists don't "believe" in things. There is either evidence for a position or there is not. All we do is espouse a rational approach to inquiry about the world.

Algebra does not require belief.

"I believe atheists are taking a huge risk on their lives, eternity is a long time to be separated from God in hell"

Are you not taking a risk by not believing in any number of other religions?

"Atheists no deep down that God exists because otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of death"

No, if that were true, then atheists wouldn't be atheist. They'd convert. Why wouldn't they?

"and would not attack people of different faiths"

"Different" faiths? Atheism is not a faith. Also, don't pretend to care about faiths other than your own.

"I do believe the alien phenomenon is real but I believe it is demons is disguise and it will be a fake alien invasion by these fallen angels in the end times as revelation talks about."

How did this end up in the same paragraph?

Yeah, fearing death because you don't want to cease existing is just silly. Saying goodbye to everything you've known in life and acknowledging you will never do the things you enjoy again and you'll no longer be with the people you love is no big deal, gosh. Without the fear of eternal hell fire death would be a cake walk. People wouldn't wear seat belts or get checkups at the doctor and they'd keep Drano in the orange juice container.

I seriously feel bad for any form of extraterrestrial life that finds Earth and has to put up with wackos who say they're demons and fallen angels. Like humans aren't messed up enough, anyway.

So when Christians tell me I am Satanic for my beliefs is because you're afraid of death?

This atheist doesn't believe in aliens having manifested themselves in UFOs since the evidence for such is non-existent.
Furthermore, this atheist would point out that humanity believes in lots of gods and you might be believing in the wrong one, so hell might be for you too.
Pascal's Wager for the fail.

If we really believed death was the end of everything we wouldn't be afraid of it? I beg your pardon? Don't you guys also say we can't be trusted in the army because we'll do anything to survive because we don't believe in an afterlife?

And then alien demons.
