What we have here is a classic "The Emperor has no Clothes" situation.
Emperor Bush strides around his kingdom before We the Serfs essentially naked save the transparent photo-shopped fig leaf (astrotufing) covering his oh come on do you even think I'll ALLUDE to Dubya's anatomy? And any Serf that dare giggle at the spectacle passing by is labeled un-American and ridiculed into silence.
So there you have it. The rest of the free world shouts out "Can't you see it?! The Emperor is naked.... what's wrong with you people, can't you see what is right before your eyes?!"
And we Serfs ignore the rant of the un-American and continue to fawn over the Emperor's splendid royal attire (that we pretend to see) as he passes by.
Not since Kim Il Sung's funeral and the over-the-top screams of utter bereavement have I heard such fake praise for such a fake leader made by an equally fake people.
Here's an idea... let's all stand with the rest of the free world and shout "The Emperor has no clothes!"

No, the emperor is fully clothed, and only a gaggle of village idiots insists otherwise. The serfs recognize that the emperor's rule is far from perfect, and some of its policies need revision, but their voice is drowned out by the hooting and hollering of the aforementioned village idiots. Meanwhile, the bards and scribes record the ramblings of idiots and ignore the serfs, because it makes their job easier and draws less ire from the emperor.

I hate it when people use the "Emperor's New Clothes" metaphor. It's always self-indulgent and hardly ever substantiated by anything.
"Look at how brave I am! I'm the only one who is smart, cool, and edgy enough to say what I know is right while all of the rest of the self-deluded sheeple just go with the flow. Proof? I don't need no stinkin' proof. It's obvious, right?"
I've never really understood the appeal of that story. Even by fairy tale standards it's just so shallow and contrived. I much prefer the version from "Politically Correct Fairy Tales", which ends with the entire kingdom endorsing the "clothing-optional" lifestyle.
