I like bullies and think they do an important service in most cases... seriously people in the 1st world countries who run this planet have become soft, self-entitled, petty little pricks who for the most part have lost all meaningful touch with reality... adversity is a good thing as it either makes someone stronger or breaks them... and if they break than they deserve what comes with that...

all this "everyone is equal and special" coddling bullshit is sickening

The misery of having someone's foot on your neck does not teach any positive lessons. It usually teaches the victim to hate and plot revenge.

A bully is using a short cut to finding a place through honest competition, so your argument is invalid and absurd. The use of force in this manner also ignores the cultural specialization that makes us cooperative, inter-dependent and better at some things than others. This makes us equal, but not assembly-line uniform, and allows the race to survive in style.

If everyone is special, then no one is special. This is closer to the truth than some egos are prepared to admit. Everyone does however, have their moments in the sun. These shoud be celebrated without being obscured by pop-psychology, political correctness, OR some egomaniacal need for one-upmanship.

I'm betting that all this is lost on Liquidacid23 though. He strikes me as the kind of jerk that would steal the smile of victory off a Down's Syndrome kid through derision and mockery.

I still have some pictures in my head. I still have nightmares sometimes. I still sometimes go to therapy. I still have temper problems and almost no friends, and no social skills. Because I could not learn them without people of my age who would talk to me. I dont know if I can ever fully forget this, I doubt it. I am fat now, because I eat to forget. I have bad marks in school, because I missed 2 years of school . I cannot imagine I can ever come clear of this shit that was my childhood. This is what bullies do to people who are "broken" by them. do you think anyone deserves that? I think not, not even you. I got this done to myself. I know how bad it is. You? You have no idea. So shut up, get away from your PC and up to me. Lets see how you like to talk to a 1.96 young man who has trained the past 6 months and who was bullied and tell him how good you find bullying. And then, regret it.
Because it didnt make me stronger. It made me angrier. And if I get to release that anger on you, I could not imagine a better target.

Fuck you. Really, fuck you. I have been bullied for my whole life since 3rd grade now. I am sixteen. At whole, I have been 8 years in therapy, one of them stationary, one half stationary. It started when I jumped a class into the third. Now a year younger, who do you guess the bullies picked on? Yep, the youngest, me. I had two friends in that class, both also friends with my bullies. They got threats to stay away from me. The teachers? They were the teachers' favourites, if I came up to one they would say something along the lines of "don't bother me with this". At middle school, still the same bullies. Sorry for never being able to build up an emotional cocoon for it always got shredded as soon as I tried to stand through something. Must have me being weak from being bullied from the age of 7 on. SEVEN. As in where you still got your fucking diaper changed. As in where got still fed from your mother's breast. As in where you CANNOT FUCKING DO ANYTHING ABOUT GETTING BEATEN ON BY 5 GUYS A YEAR OLDER THAN YOU, THEN GETTING THE TEACHERS COME UP TO YOU HALF AN HOUR LATER AND ASKING "Why are you lying in the sand" AS IF NOTHING WAS FUCKING WRONG.
They ruined my life up to this point, and I finally am able to partly forget this.

Not quite. In the military, they don't quite break you. It would be stupid to have Training From Hell that killed or maimed or completely messed up the soldiers.

And, more importantly, the military has the idea of consent - everybody in signed up for it. They may change their mind and have trouble getting out, but that's entirely different from a bully abusing the little kid on the playground.

I also was the little kid in class, the one with glasses who sat off to the side of the playground reading the science textbook rather than playing football during recess, and so I too attracted bullies. But the ones I had to deal with never did anything nearly so traumatic as what you have described. Echoing everyone else, I hope that you recover.

If I may make an attempt at reassurance: you do have some social skills, at least when it comes to talking to people online.

Also, becoming angry when people advocate bullying others is an entirely sensible response. Should you encounter people beating up someone just for being different, do what you can to stop them. But, speaking as somebody who's trained in karate and aikido for six years, don't go looking for a fight. That just leads to more violence; and bullies survive by never fighting fair and having hangers-on like Liquidacid23 to help them. I could handle one poorly-trained attacker, unless they had a gun and were out of arms-reach, but even my teacher ran when five guys tried to rob him in an alley.

I learned this (albeit a bit late) that if you LAUGH at them they sorta short circuit. They want to see you upset...DON'T GIVE THEM THAT REACTION.

They picked on you because you are better than them, smarter than them, SUPERIOR TO THEM. You were put ahead some grades because of YOUR SUPERIOR INTELLECT & CHARACTER.

Don't let them destroy your grades! Laugh at their insults! Tell them how weak & stupid they are! Call them out on their jealousy!

They are weak & inferior BUT YOU ARE STRONG & SUPERIOR. Y'know why...BECAUSE YOU ARE OF A MIGHTY FORCE OF TRUE POWER KNOWN AS..."THE INTELLECTUAL".

Intellectualism, sensitivity, empathy, love, compassion ARE TRUE STRENGTH....mere muscles, brawn, machismo & jockstraps are NOTHING!

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind fitness, muscle & self-defense...but when being a brute defines a person, it shows how weak, worthless, helpless, impotent, ineffectual & inferior they are!

The Mind, Heart & Intellect are real strengths to be developed. I know the hell you went through, personally. I was an absolute school pariah. My previously fantastic grades suffered. I know & experienced it all. But please remember, you can & WILL overcome this. The wounds will heal, the scars will fade. You can be happy & carefree again.

If you must use your new-found brawn, use it ONLY in self-defense. Don't let them steal your gentle nature & intellect. MAKE YOUR PARENTS SUE THE SCHOOL! TELL YOUR PARENTS! Pursue it until the weak bully regime breaks! Have you parents meet with each weak pansy teacher and, tactfully, CHEW THEM OUT VERBALLY!

The military only takes that approach because it is the fastest route to creating berserker-capable followers with little thought of self-preservation. The best soldiers get training above and beyond this basic cannon-fodder hoo-rah crap. This might be the fastest route, but any good martial arts Sensei could tell you why it's not the best. So could any decent psychologist that has had to deal with PTSD in the military.

I can relate. Impotent rage is the worst, but it sounds like you had the strength of character not to look for the next victim in the pecking order. Please try every day to be good to yourself. Eating for pleasure can be as much of a trap as alcohol or cigarettes. I wish you well in the fight with your personal dragon. (That's how my shrink referred to mine.) Quality of life is adjustable, and worth striving for.

There needs to be a culture/mind shift where brains & heart are valued above brawn...where the nice, sensitive, highly-intelligent gentleman is considered the paragon of manliness (and likewise, the woman his absolute equal). We need to start pointing our fingers at the jocks & thugs and LAUGH AT THEM & SEE THEM AS THE BIGGEST WIMPY LOSERS EVER! A jock, thug, frat boy loser is little more than a big goofy cartoon character! Like Patrick the starfish...only mean & hateful.

First, quit making jokes about nerds, geeks, artsy fartsy hipsters, emos & effeminate males. Yeah, even if some are annoying, just let it slide, dangit!

Ladies, ditch the big hulks for the nice, quiet, shy, sweet, smart guys with a great mind, personality & character. Heck, we may be able to breed the huge jock types out of existence, the differences in size/strength may narrow between the sexes. There may be less rape & brains will be a status symbol!

Now, I'm aware there are brainy little people who are evil jerks & large jocks who are intelligent & sensitive (think, a young Karl Rove & Rosie Greer, respectively)...I'm also not saying that folks need to ditch exercise, sports & the ability to defend oneself.... I'm just talking in generalizations, please bear with me, here.

Humanity needs an overhaul. The movement may start small, it may take YEARS but it can be done! Every oak started as an acorn, Rome wasn't built in a day, so this won't be overnight, either. Be patient.

I like bullies

This is all I had to read to feel total revulsion toward this idiot. I was bullied in high school from being from out of town and "not one of them" not to mention that I wasn't one of the "cool" kids anyway, just wanted to study and make good grades. So I was an instant target and it affected me for years afterwards, and even to this day I have trouble opening up to people for fear that they'll make fun of me. I just built up a psychological wall around myself and still have trouble letting people in. And according to this idiot I deserved it because I was supposedly a little different from everyone else, when in reality I wasn't any different.

Anyone who advocates bullying can go fuck themselves and die as far as I'm concerned.

Frelus, you are not isolated, the way I was over half a century ago. You have friends right here. We're on your side.

Get as many good adult skills as you can. Your driver's license is a good example. I gather you're working out. You like to eat? Good. Learn to cook healthy. Start a garden for the summertime, even if it's tomato plants on a fire escape. Find online groups who like the same things you do. Learn a foreign language, or chess, or whatever interests you that takes some intelligence. Write poetry or short stories and don't worry if they're good yet. If the nightmares get you up, write then. Soon, you'll run into your old enemies when they're flipping burgers or sweeping up sawdust at DYI stores. I did. If you have a good singing voice, develop a repertoire of songs. And don't worry about conversational skills. Gently coax people to talk about themselves, and they'll think you're a wonderful conversationalist. Meanwhile, you'll know a lot more about everybody else than they know about you, and that's a great advantage!

As for the "ex-Marine", I bet he's out on a conduct discharge- no benefits, no references, no nothing.

Hugs for Frelus! I can't claim to have been /properly/ bullied, ever. I was just one of those kids who no one interacts with, and even that left me emotionally messed up and with low social skills. So you...hell's bells, I don't even know what to say. Don't hesitate to share that as you keep going, with real-life people, not just no-accounts like us. Acknowledging it does not make you weak, ever.

To acidhead: Real challenges can make people stronger. Bullying is not a real challenge. It's just teaching people that injustice is a fundamental principle of reality, and making them less whole. Despite Lifetime movies, there is almost never a 'good ending' to a bullying scenario. There's the 'okay' ending, if you're lucky, and a variety of 'bad' ones. It is not a good simulation of 'real life,' because in real life if something like that is happening, it's probably because the assholes doing it learned it was okay when they were kids. Bullying isn't a simulation of anything. It's a real, bad thing.

Everyone deserves protection. That's why we have society at all. If you're so anxious to be among the tigers, go outside the wall and wrestle them. There is no need to make new tigers now that we have shut the real ones out.

@ Frelus - I am echoing the promise that it does get better. I was mercilessly bullied in middle school (grades 5-6 in the US), and I still consider those to be the very worst years of my life.

The other posters who said college is a different world are spot-on. High school society is pretty much meaningless there, as it is in the rest of the real world.

The saying that "the best revenge is living well" is apt. I have constructed the best life (career, relationships, travel, hobbies, etc.)possible, with some luck but also a lot of effort. Right about now it seems like a pretty great life to me, and is even viewed with some admiration (and sometimes with envy) by others.

Many years later, I don't think much about those bad years. I am glad they are behind me,and I am very glad that I did not let the bullies destroy the rest of my life.

Just don't ever give up on yourself. Your posts prove how very intelligent and articulate you are. Writing can be a great way to release and channel the anger and the pain that has been inflicted on you, plus you clearly have a talent for it.

It sounds like you are doing everything right to care for and heal yourself. I swear to you that it gets much better. Hugs to you and wishing you the very best of everything.

As a man who has endured bullying, and tackled depression since childhood, I lend my voice to the growing chorus: it gets better!

I wish I had something profound and wise to add to that, but your life and your future are too vast for anyone to sum up in a simple proverb. I can say this though: I know from experience how isolating depression can be. When you feel alone, try to remember that your life matters! There are people in your world who know this now, and there will be many people in your future whom you will matter to as well. It may be hard to see this as being true when you are depressed, but it is something I guarantee is true.

Best wishes to you, now and in the future you will make for yourself.

I have to agree with this. Adversity makes people stronger, or at least it forces those who have the potential to be strong to realize that potential. I must accord a measure of honour to every antagonist I have ever faced, and every one I continue to face, because without them providing resistance I would never have developed into the superior man I am now. The desire to be free from adversity is a characteristic of the weak, strong people desire to conquer adversity.

*Edit: To qualify, this is also a profoundly un-Christian thing to say. Christianity being, essentially, an expression of the desire to be free from suffering. What else could the dichotomy of Heaven/Hell be?

So, you're saying that, within the context of the above quote, anybody who wishes to free from being abused, assaulted, demeaned and harassed by the pricks and cunts of this world is weak.

Anybody who doesn't want to be discriminated against, chronically persecuted, and unfairly demonized is weak. Merely having the desire to NOT be the victim/subject of these things is weak, right? That's what you seem to be suggesting.

If I'm wrong and am misinterpreting what you're trying to convey, please tell me and offer clarification, because I dearly want to be wrong.

You have completely missed the point.

The essential difference between bullying and a strength-building contest is consent. As an example: I thank the members of my karate dojo for trying to beat me up. But if they tried that on me outside the dojo, it would be assault and they'd be cooling off in jail for a while.

Bullies don't get permission, and aren't out to make people stronger, even if they use that as a transparently hollow excuse. It's all about making themselves feel better ("Look at me! I can reduce this kid to a quivering mass on the floor! I'm so badass!"), and helps no one.

Bullying is abusive, exploitative, and entirely unacceptable.
