Quote# 87047

This, by the way, is the secret of capitalism. The secret of capitalism is Mark 10:45. Jesus said "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for ransom".

The only way that you can succeed in capitalism is by serving people. If you don't identify some need that they have, and find some effective way to satisfy that need, you ain't going anywhere in capitalism.

That's the beauty of capitalism, it is built on the teaching of Jesus himself. The son of man did not come to be served, but to serve. That's where we get that whole idea of the customer is always right, and customer-oriented, and client oriented service. All that comes from Mark 10:45.

I hear that's also where we got tennis, and kidnap & ransom. Is there anything Mark 10:45 can't do!

Jesus would have despised capitalism. It goes against everything he taught about the importance of giving away your stuff.

Bless us, supply side Jesus!

Och, its Bryan Fischer. I don't even comment on his stuff anymore.

Me thinks jesus doesn't really understand the concept of capitalism, then.

Yeah, right, what happened to the whole rich people not getting access to Paradise (Mark, 10, 25)?

Ahh, the Barton-Fischer nexus :D

Always good for a laugh.

Then a good cry, as I realise that people listen to idiots like this.

4/23/2012 4:22:48 AM

That's hardly equivalent to capitalism, you nut.

4/23/2012 4:23:42 AM

So where does it say the Son of Man was making a tidy little profit off of his service?

4/23/2012 4:32:14 AM

Um, no, I don't think that the CEOs have served anybody; last time I checked, they were the ones with the servants. Only Bryan Fischer could turn this socially liberal Bible verse into the very opposite of what its author meant by it.

Ya know, Fischer makes a good point here. Mitt Romney served countless people their walking papers and he did succeed in capitalism.

Oh wait. Romney's a Mormon so he's not a Christian.

Newt Gingrich served a lot of women their divorce papers...

That's where we get that whole idea of the customer is always right...

Uh, Bryan, I work in sales and can tell you from countless first-hand experiences that this is not always true.

Mister Spak

You know what happens to people who distort the bible, right? You know where preachers of false doctrine go right?

"That's where we get that whole idea of the customer is always right..."

Actually that's a good way to destroy your business. When they're right you should recognize it and act appropriatley, however, over 5% of the population are professional complainers, always looking for a way to cut or beat bills down or recieve free service and product.

4/23/2012 5:30:54 AM

Reynardine

And in Bryan Fischer's scheme of things, "serving people" is a cookbook.

4/23/2012 5:40:07 AM

And Capitalism? Preceeds your Bible by many thousands of years, not much has really changed since the first village markets appeared except coin of the realm and taxes, those also much older then your Bible.

Joseph and Mary had to make a long difficult trip just to be registered for taxes. Judas took advantage of a lucrative business opportunity, y'know.

Stop pretending all current social constructs are Biblical concepts. Just fucking stop with the Bullshit Bryan.

I really don't think that Jesus was talking about economics, there. At any rate, most conservative capitalists conveniently forget all that Jesus said about feeding the poor, clothing the naked, healing the sick, etc, not to mention all the negative things Jesus said about rich people.

So all those Phonecian merchants who were selling bulk goods between Tyre and the straits of Gibraltar back when Rome was seven rival villiages squbbling over grazing rights in the Tiber basin. And judaism was still just another polytheistic cult in the backwoods of eastern Palestine... That wasnt capitalism?

"That's the beauty of capitalism, it is built on the teaching of Jesus himself. The son of man did not come to be served, but to serve."

"...and to give his life in ransom." You missed off the last bit.

"That's where we get that whole idea of the customer is always right, and customer-oriented, and client oriented service. All that comes from Mark 10:45."

And the bit about your life being ransom? So I can shoot people I don't think are giving me good enought service now?

It's in the bible, Bryan, and frankly your blog hasn't been all that entertaining of late.

Thou shalt not covet. And without coveting (wanting other people's stuff) capitalism doesn't really work very well.

THIS IS WHAT THE FAR RIGHT ACTUALLY BELIEVES.

It's often joked that if Jesus ever were to actually return from the dead, many Christian conservatives would deride him as a bleeding-heart liberal. The funny part is that it isn't a joke.

"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had."

Acts 4:32, NIV

Those wicked Christians! Didn't they know anything about Christ?

The customer is NOT always right. Everyone who's been in retail or McJobs knows that.

Most services and businesses are share-holder-oriented, stupid.

"This, by the way, is the secret of capitalism. The secret of capitalism is Mark 10:45. Jesus said 'the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for ransom'."

Yes. The secret of Capitalism is found in the Wholly Babble, which is why Jesus and the disciples were dirt poor and shared their possessions/money communally.

It's also the reason that Jesus told you to sell all of your shit and then give the money away to the poor.

You'll probably also note that you're warned against serving Mammon (i.e., money and wealth), which is so obviously a Capitalist ideal that I'm astounded you didn't pick up on it already.

"The only way that you can succeed in capitalism is by serving people."

How very trite.

"That's the beauty of capitalism, it is built on the teaching of Jesus himself."

The same Jesus that was destitute and bummed around without a job? That Jesus? The Jesus that, as mentioned, told you to sell your possessions and give the money away? Or maybe it was the Jesus that said something about a camel, the eye of a needle, and a rich man.

Then again, it's probably the Conservative Right Wing Jesus who is a good, gun-toting, Neo-Con, Capitalist who happens to be tall and lily-white skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes.

4/23/2012 7:01:33 AM

Dr. Razark

You either don't understand capitalism, or you don't understand the Jesus stories.

But, if you want to go that route and claim that Jesus is the basis for capitalism, capitalism includes:
Free health care for all.
Payment of taxes without complaint.
Charity, on the order of 100% of your income.
Compassion.
Human sacrifice.
Ritual cannibalism.
