Quote# 87089

Key thing here is Evolution is a 'Theory' not FACT!

Too many times its taught as 'Fact' when in reality its a 'Theory' just as the Theory of relativity is a theory, not a fact, that today is being broken as we speak.

Very simply put to say this is a fact when its a theory bespeaks some measure of hubris thats not good to have.

Mutations are NEVER good, they hinder and harm, adaptation is the key here in biological diversity not 'evolution or mutations'.

If some kind of critter cant adapt to changes in nature, it dont last long, its that simple.

Are you an exact copy of your mother and father? No? Then you are a mutant.

Rink doesn't have any understanding of evolution at all.

Let me paraphrase Rink's stament, as I read it:

"My bringing-upping says evolution is bunk, so I don't want to believe it, it's just a stupid shot in the dark [a 'theory']. On the other hand, adaption of species to the environment is very reasonable and is the key to existence. Adaption yes, evolution no."

Rink, a victim of his parents. What a shame the two sides of his brain will never meet in the middle.

Achhhooooo! Oops, sorry I sneezed on you. Don't worry though, you won't get sick. Germ Theory is just a theory!

"The scientific community picked a word which has multiple meanings in different contexts, therefore they're all wrong and [insert very specific denomination of] Christianity is exactly right"

Here speaks the voice of ignorance, using Darwinian language to refute Darwin, and not even realising the irony.
Seriously, it always surprises me that these people have managed to learn English literacy and basic typing skills, while at the same time being so fucking DUMB.

4/26/2012 2:01:08 PM

These idiots always say "theory" like it's something you came up with on the way back from the pub.

4/26/2012 3:18:15 PM

Actually, evolution is simply descent with modification which is an observable fact.

"Theory," in science, isn't a hunch or a guess. A "Theory" addresses the forces driving observed facts and their implication.

A "Theory" provides the how and whys of observed fact you ignorant moron.

Old Viking

Here's a guy with an impressive grip on the subject.

Every sentence here is false except the last one, which actually perfectly describes evolution (adaptation to changes in nature).

4/26/2012 4:38:32 PM

Blah. Same crap that has been trotted out and debunked long before there was an internet.

4/26/2012 4:50:33 PM

Another Fundie who doesn't know what a scientific theory is.

Oops (the 5 is silent)

If some kind of critter cant adapt to changes in nature, it dont last long, its that simple.

Every great once-in-a-while there appears to be a hint, just a wee spark, of smarts, or understanding amongst one of them. A clue. The dawn of adaptation to the modern world. It's a damn slow process, but could it be that we are witnessing the very evolution of fundies, as they speak?

4/26/2012 9:21:21 PM

The last sentence is just perfect.

4/26/2012 10:32:46 PM

On the positive side, this at least explains why christianist fundies are identiclones of their parents, and ditto their "arguments".

4/27/2012 2:10:21 AM

Are you even trying?

Slight correction for us here: Rink is actually a lady--for all the posters using male pronouns. Also, this is her defense:

"Still though, these guys need to go back and re-learn and study the English Language and understand just exactly what Words truly mean, as it goes Theory as far as I can tell isnt 'Fact' its a 'Hypothesis', i.e. an 'Educated Guess' its not Fact LMAO"

Rink, that is the definition of theory in common parlance, but theory in science means something else:

"A scientific theory summarizes a hypothesis or group of hypotheses that have been supported with repeated testing. A theory is valid as long as there is no evidence to dispute it. Therefore, theories can be disproven. Basically, if evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis, then the hypothesis can become accepted as a good explanation of a phenomenon. One definition of a theory is to say it's an accepted hypothesis."

A bunch of other comments in that thread are FSTDT-worthy as well. It's like a parade of creationist lies and logical fallacies.

Misrepresentation of the laws of thermodynamics? Check.

Argument from incredulity? Check.

Using modern 'simple' single called organisms as examples? Check.

Irreducible complexity? Check.

Deceptive quote mining of actual scientists? Check.

Strawman arguments? Check.

Then there's THIS gem:

"Evolution is clearly correct when you don't know much about it."

4/27/2012 12:29:23 PM

Adapting to change IS mutation, IS evolution, IS a fact.

But you're right about one thing--you're the simplest fool I can imagine.

4/27/2012 2:36:09 PM

Raised by Horses

It's true. Evolution is, at best, a theory.

Creationism, on the other hand, is at best a vague notion.

4/28/2012 4:02:28 AM

Scientific theories are as good as facts! A "theory" is not an unproven idea!

4/28/2012 12:20:22 PM

Nadia Bizz

What is it with creationists and thinking that "theory" is a synonym for "hypothesis," anyway?

@ Anon-E-Moose

Your comment made me think of this:

XD!!! When I first read about this I was surely doing a double take and checking to see if I was under the influence of LSD but no this is a serious article and the Japanese ARE doing it LMAO
