Quote# 87128

All the other "gods" of this world can be traced back, quite consistently to the God of the Bible.
The religious practices in every country and in every culture have been passed down from the “worship” system first practice by Noah after the flood.
The people of this earth were scattered at Babel and took with them what they understood at the time.
The gods in many forms and titles are a reflection of the various attributes of the living God
The accounts are much the same and yet much different.
The Bible clearly explains what occurred and secular history and archeological finding walk hand in hand with what God has said.

It is a bit involved as I am sure you can imagine, so we will let it go at that for now.

How can all the gods be traced back to the god of the Bible when the Hindu gods were worshiped long before the Abrahamic god? Hinduism is the oldest still practiced religion, predating Judaism (from which we get Christianity and Islam) by a few thousand years.

"It is a bit involved as I am sure you can imagine, so we will let it go at that for now."

Meaning; "I've run out of bullshit."

What about the gods that pre-date the wholly babble?

Oops, Arctic Knight beat me to it.

What about all the stuff that the Bible says existed that secular history has no evidence of? Like, y'know, Jesus.

"All the other "gods" of this world can be traced back, quite consistently to the God of the Bible."
Which gOd of the bible? There are only a couple dozen of them.
And how do you account for the gods that pre-date the bible by thousands of years?
"The religious practices in every country and in every culture have been passed down from the “worship” system first practice by Noah after the flood. "
Bullshit.
Hindu practices pre-date judaism by over 2000 years, and have ziltch to do with the jewish flood myth.

Arctic Knight and Adey for the win.

The Flood and the Tower of Babel didn't happen. The Bible talks about events much older than itself, but it's made up.

"All the other 'gods' of this world can be traced back, quite consistently to the God of the Bible."

Even those worshiped several thousand years before your Wholly Babble was written?

Amazing.

"The religious practices in every country and in every culture have been passed down from the 'worship' system first practice by Noah after the flood."

There was no flood you goober.

"The people of this earth were scattered at Babel and took with them what they understood at the time."

The study of linguistics shows otherwise.

"The gods in many forms and titles are a reflection of the various attributes of the living God."

While I find this doubtful, so what?

"The accounts are much the same and yet much different."

Why, they're exactly identical except for where they aren't!

"The Bible clearly explains what occurred and secular history and archeological finding walk hand in hand with what God has said."

No. They don't. Not even close. Exodus is but just one example.

"It is a bit involved as I am sure you can imagine, so we will let it go at that for now."

Well, thank your god for that at least.

Doubting Thomas

So what you're saying is that over time, religious beliefs got warped & corrupted so that people worshiped gods that were vastly different. So what makes you think that you're not worshiping one of the false gods?

The Torah (what Christians refer to as the Old Testament) contains numerous occasions of Jews fighting against, being enslaved by, or converting to/from followers of other religions, and Abraham wasn't exactly an atheist before sky daddy came along and told him to establish a religion. Just further proof that fundies don't even bother to read their own holy book.

@Doubting Thomas
That's always amazed me about fundies. They claim to trust only the word of [deity] and shun the lies of humans, yet utterly fail to realise that humans taught them about their religion in the first place.

You fail comparative religion forever, mister Young. Even I know this is false and I'm not very up on my world history.

4/28/2012 8:22:12 AM

Well, except for East-Asian religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Shintoism, and the more obscure Bon religion. I'm also sure that there are many more religions in that area, and they don't get as much attention as the ones above. This has already been addressed by the commenters here, but it bears repeating as it needs to be drilled into this idiot's head. He clearly thinks this is a good excuse for conversion to his side.

I wonder which "gods" this guy was comparing: the Egyptian, Chinese, and Hindu "false" gods, or the Catholic, Lutheran, and Presbyterian "false" gods?

"The Bible clearly explains what occurred and secular history and archeological finding walk hand in hand with what God has said."

First, that the Bible clearly explains much of anything is debatable.

Second, much of what the Bible claims as history has been shown to be incorrect such as the exile in Egypt and the bringing down of the walls of Jericho.

... the Tower of Babel didn't happen. The Bible talks about events much older than itself, but it's made up.

I'm afraid you're mistaken there.

The "Tower of Babel" which is referred to in the Old Testament is nothing other than the main Ziggurat temple of the God Marduk which still stands as semi-restored ruins in Babylon today.

The stories about the so-called confusion of tongues and the scattering were a result of the Babylonian captivity from about 587–538 BC. They didn't enter the biblical texts until after the end of the captivity and the return to Jerusalem. (Wikpedia is your friend.)

The stories are all basically xenophobic distortions of daily life in Babylon and attempts at rationalizing the utter defeat of Jerusalem (and therefore Jahve) which led to the captivity.

Just think of some christian fundamentalist hillbilly hick from Kansas being beamed to New York City.

It's the "much the same and yet much different" that confuses me.

4/28/2012 12:20:15 PM

Bullshit.
Your god was derived from Babylonian lore and evolved from there. There are creation myths and gods thousands of years older than Yahweh and the Old Testament. You're just too ignorant to really look at the evidence and see it for yourself.
The flood is a fairy tale for morons.
