I would have a problem voting for any one who is not a Christian, regardless of the political party. I also consider a vote for a Democrat to be a vote against God. Democrats are the ones who want to take God out of everything. I am not saying all Republicans believe in God, but they are not trying to get Him out of America either.

David, I think it's more that God buys votes and they have to pander if they want to get re-elected. Which I somehow doubt. A lot of fundies are pissed with not amending the Constitution and not banning abortion.
I can't help think that Marx was right about religion. It is, for the most part, the opiate of the masses. There are some shining examples of humble but strong religious people worthy of my respect, but there are many others who throw their common sense out the window because it contradicts the literal interpretation of Scripture.
HH: Big problem with that. Namely, the way our electoral system is designed. If two parties can compromise on some issue to combine their votes, it's in their interest to do so because it's simply "most votes wins" - no majority needed, no proportional representation, etc. The only stable situation in such a system is to have two dominant parties with the others of fringe interest; if a third party becomes of sufficient note, it would either wind up merging with a major party (or the major parties merge against it!) or replacing one of the major parties.
The best solution I can think of is to do instant runoffs. Have voters rank all the candidates. Count up each candidate's first-place vote, and if none have a majority, the lowest number gets dropped and votes for him get reassigned based on the voters' second choice. If no one has a majority after that, take the next lowest and repeat until there is a majority. This would make it so third-party votes are no longer "throwaways", greatly increasing the chance of a meaningful third party.
Rime, when Marx used that term "Opiate of the masses",He had just broken his leg a year earlier and had been lucky enough to have had an opiate to dull the pain of resetting it. He meant that Religion helped people to get throught the horrific agony and oppresive grind of Daily life in the Modern Agricultural Era.He didn't mean that the people were intentionally blind, just that any salve for a festering wound helped.
Unfortunately, Religion is a part and parcel of the Modern Agricultural Era.
It's literally if the object that broke your leg gave you the opiate to dull the pain. However, in this case, the leg didn't (and still hasn't) healed properly. As long as the Modern Agriculture Era exists, Religion will be used as a salve.
Alrighty then, so you wouldn't vote for either Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Harrison, Filmore or Taft!
Good for you! Truman, Nixon or Bush however...
"I would have a problem voting for any one who is not a Christian, regardless of the political party."
- You let your sense of tribalism has override your reason. That's bad.
"I also consider a vote for a Democrat to be a vote against God."
- You place superstitious allegiance above the good of the country. That's very bad.
"Democrats are the ones who want to take God out of everything."
- You put an excessive amount of trust in political propaganda. That is extremely bad.
"I am not saying all Republicans believe in God,"
- You are able to look past the propaganda and see the obvious. That is good.
"...but they are not trying to get Him out of America either."
- And then you buy right in to the propaganda again, squandering the one marginal good you had.
Maybe you should use your head for something other than banging
"I am not saying all Republicans believe in God, but they are not trying to get Him out of America either."
No, but they're using that to get your vote.
Honestly look at what you've voted in. War-Mongerling people a hairs breath from dictatorship. You Idiots hold up Cheney, Palin, Bachman, Beck, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Barton and many other wastes of skin as prophets or experts or someone that ever had a clue that they weren't paid to believe.
Confused?
