What the church says is relevant;to what is terribly unclear.

I agree that what Webster's has to say about the language is irrelevant.
The Oxford English Dictionary is definitive, that silly American knockoff gets lots of things wrong.

Is that the same church that murdered tens of millions of people, and dragged out the Dark Ages for a thousand years? I rest my case.

No. Reality is the only thing that is relevant. Lying about something does not change the truth.

@Mudak: Right on. Several years ago I was doing a paper on abortion for a humanities class, and in the research I did, I found that the abortion rates across most countries was relatively even. The major difference was in the mortality rate; unsurprisingly, countries with legalized abortions have extremely low mortality rates, while those that ban it have much higher ones. Banning it might stop some women, but the majority of them will obtain it one way or the other regardless of its legality. If people are going to do it no matter what, then we should at least make sure it's done safely so as to minimize the risks.

Next it'll be: What my own mind and heart and intuition and judgement says is irrelevant. What the Church says is relevant.

Yeah, and when the Church does the same thing, it's totally not "verbal acrobatics", because... why? Errrr...

Yeah, who gives a flying fuck what the RCC says today anyway?

The Church that throughout the years has insisted on defining 'holy', 'justice', 'heresy', 'morality' and the like talks of verbal acrobatics...

The church hasn't said anything of relevance at any point, so why start paying attention now??

Even the Bible itself cannot even define the proper definition of a pregnancy or when a life becomes a life inside the womb.
It wasn't until the advances in medicine and science that trimesters, fetal growth, and other such indicative terms to define a pregnancy and how it develops were even brought to light.
The Bible even states several passages on abortion as if it could care less if a woman loses her child. See for yourself:
Abortion is not murder. A fetus is not considered a human life.
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. -- Exodus 21:22-23
The Bible places no value on fetuses or infants less than one month old.
And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver. -- Leviticus 27:6
Fetuses and infants less than one month old are not considered persons.
Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them. And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD. -- Numbers 3:15-16

Yep -- whoever has the stupidest-looking hat always has the final word.
It's so obvious why can't those atheists see that?

Webster defines. The church redefines.
