You look at Article II, the quote on the President [having] to be native-born--that is Deuteronomy 17:15, verbatim. I mean, look at how many clauses come out [of the Bible]. That drives the secularists nuts, because the Bible is all over [the Constitution]. Now, we as Christians don't tend to recognize that. We think it's a secular document--we've bought into their lies. It's not.

Deuteronomy 17:15

"you shall surely set a king over you whom the LORD your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman."

Article II, Section I of the Constitution:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

I don't think "verbatim", means what you think it means, Barton. >_>

Also, where do I find this in the Bible?

Article III, Section III (The actual treason clause):

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."

"The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office."

Now, I never did get past the fifth time Leviticus repeats itself, so I'd like to ask someone if they've seen something like this in The Goddamn Bible?

The Treason clause was added because the first act of a despot is to declare as treason anything he doesn't like. Insulting the president (or his family or friends)? Treason! Disparaging the "revolution"? Treason! Criticizing the government? Treason! The founders were smart enough to put a stop to that sort of nonsense.

OK, I looked. You have a strange idea of the word "verbatim":

Constitution: No person except a natural born Citizen ... shall be eligible to the Office of President

Bible: "Thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which [is] not thy brother."

So Barack Obama is George W. Bush's brother? The Bible seems to be supporting a hereditary monarchy - not surprising, since that's what the Jewish people had back in those days.

The Bible's useless as a democratic (free people state) document. It supports rule by Emporer/king/church dynasties.

And as pointed out, rightfully above: David Barton is a right-wing tool who rewrites (lies about) history constantly to give the appearance of church or Republican agendas as what built the country and made it SOOOO fuckin' great during the 1890s or 1920s or 1950s or when King Reagan, Lionfart ruled or some other ridiculous bullshit the right-wing world likes to pretend ever happened.

Barton actually qoutes founding fathers with words they never wrote, real historians can't find most of Bartons founding father quotes because Barton made them up.

Had America not became a country where news agencies are legally allowed to lie (forth estate gone) Barton would be up on treason charges.

Hey, I'm all for freedom of speech, I just remember when people talking shit (limbaugh, Hannity, Barton, Beck, O'Rieily all of Fox really and hundreds of other liars) had to have disclaimers at every return from commercial breaks.

"This show has a lying idiot recieving payola from billionaires for their evil intrests and should never be believed" That sounds overboard and unlikely only because we never saw todays news/textbook/media services becoming so bought out.

It's almost sad. Brendan Rizzo has lost the will to live... In America, at least. Look at how fatalistic and depressing his words have gotten. I bet even the reelection of Barack Obama wouldn't even cheer him at this point! I'd bet he'd say something like, "doesn't matter. Obama isn't anywhere near progressive, and his unconstitutional drone strikes are straight out of the dark ages. He sold us out on health care, the debt cieling and taxes! We're the shame of the so-called 'Developed World!' Do you expect me to celebrate not having a catastrophe like Mitt Romney at the cost of having to deal with HIM for another four years!?"

I for one believe we are on the cusp of a new Progressive Era, but maybe I'm just being naïve. Looking at history, things tend to swing back and forth in American politics and for the last decades we've been in a Republican funk.

Regardless, Brendan Rizzo needs to stop being so mopey. If you wanna move to Canada, fine. Be my guest. But your whinging is starting to wear thin, Rizzo!

Well... I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of the US constitution.

I think it's confusingly worded (And as such legally interpretable in multiple ways.) And that whole gun ownership business?

Not working out for America.

Plus I don't like how that constitution is treated EXACTLY like believers treat their holy book. You're not allowed to criticize it apparently. Same with the founding fathers being treated as these infallible prophet like messiah figures. (For fuck's sake, the guys where slaveowners.)

Well I say screw all that.

Of course to change a constitution, you'd need a huge majority vote, and you're not going to get that easily. I think it'd be beneficial for the US.

I'd hammer out that separation of church and state so incredibly crystal clear and unambiguous if I wrote a constitution that even the staunchest fundie couldn't deny it's there anymore.

I mean I know it's in there, but it's so vaguely and gobbledegookishly worded that of course these religious goobers won't GET it.
