Satan often works through humor to deceive people and draw them away from the truth. When the sitcom, I LOVE LUCY starring Lucille Ball first appeared in the 1950's, many people at the time had a huge problem with it because it centered around a manipulative woman who was constantly lying to her husband, family and friends.

Lucy's lies and deceptive behavior were clothed in humor, and while it was difficult for people to receive in the 1950's, today we have deteriorated so far morally that no one even bats an eye. Lucy even looks like the Devil, continually shifting her eyes and lying about everything. The “I LOVE LUCY” show ought to have been renamed “WHO'S THE BIGGEST LIAR?”

As evidence that Satan was behind the I LOVE LUCY show, consider the following. Lucille's close friend, Carole Lombard had died in a horrible plane crash in 1942. Carole was a second generation Bahá'í and was formally declared in 1938. Lucille Ball said her decision to do “I Love Lucy” was made after Lombard came to her in a dream in 1951 and advised her to take a chance and enter the unknown and at the time, risky world of television. So Lucille Ball claimed that the spirit of her friend Carole Lombard, who'd been dead for 9 years, came to her in dream to give career advice. That is a demonic practice known as “necromancy” (communicating with the dead).

I don't think people did have a huge problem with it. I think that then, and for a long time before, lying to your wife or husband was a stock joke in American comedy.
The idea that lies were more difficult to accept in the 1950s is a strange one, because it was a time of huge conformism and thus, hypocrisy. The fact that you had to stay married to your spouse was accepted but so was the idea that this could be a burden, and this was a source of humour. You can see this in stuff like I Love Lucy and the old stand-up comic with his "take my wife, please" jokes. Alcoholism, adultery, and low-level drug abuse were rife in 50s suburbia. This, and things like homosexuality or unorthodox political opinions, were simply repressed and covered up.
So, far from being unacceptable because Lucy lies and deceives her husband, I think it was reflective of the hypocrisy of the time.

Granted, I wasn't around in the 1950s, but I still think you're full of shit. As far as I'm aware, it was an immediate classic.

You bring up an interesting point. It is well-known that the fundies on this site routinely display hypocrisy and shallowness, not only in failing to recognize the fallacies in their arguments, but also in their personal lives. They are quite avaricious and obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses, covering up their faults, and generally doing things which Jesus specifically told people not to do. Therefore, I am beginning to think that the fundie idolization of the 1950s is done not in spite of the Stepford Wives-like existence of that era, but rather because of it. They are well aware of the shallowness and hypocrisy of both those times and of themselves, and thus admire the situation of the 1950s for that is when such behavior was not only accepted, but expected.

Really? It was hard to take at the time? Gee I was always told it was one of the most instantly-approachable and popular TV shows of all time. Silly me.

Have you ever actually watched an episode? All of Lucy's little white lies tend to land her in numerous tight spots and sticky situations. If there's a morality or over-arching theme at all it's that dishonesty tends not to work out in the end.

As far as communicating with the dead, Lucille Ball was a comedian, she claimed all kinds of crazy shit, including having over-heard military radio communications through the fillings in her teeth. Most of what people like that say in interviews is to get a laugh, not to be taken as fact.

IIRC the show was instantly the number one rated nationwide hit and remained so for many years. In fact, the episode where Lucy gave birth was the most watched TV event in history at the time.

Either you're pulling the "many people had a huge problem with it" out of your ass (you're certainly lying about the "many" part), or there was some teeny handful of Westboro Baptist-style mouth-breathing fundies who made a little peep of protest for a minute or two about Lucy not being a proper little submissive doormat wife, and everybody else ignored them. The country as a whole LOVED the show.

And having a dream would not constitue the deliberate practice of necromancy, even is such a thing were really possible. You've been watching too much True Blood.

@Ludd: That's the Jains you're thinking of. The Baha'i are simply of the view that all the world's major religions had some measure of genuine divine inspiration; their task is to weave them back together without losing any of their insights.

Nonetheless, necromancy isn't exactly something I remember being a Baha'i precept. But knowing Stewart, he probably thinks that once a Baha'i dies, they auto-shift into Agent of Belial mode, simply by virtue of not being an RTC at point of death. q.v. the conceit of Ascended Masters actually being demons, as per Peretti's "Piercing the Darkness". So the apparition of Lombard MUST have been an infernal influence, by Stewart's thinking.

I can understand most of the things You are writing here (also a lot of evil things are actually missing), but I LOVE LUCY??? This is comedy, it should not be serious. Yes, in some episodes there might be a little feminism, but it is not successive.

What do You mean Lucy looks like a devil? Why to say something like that? God created her too.

About this dream, I also have to agree with others, that we can not guide our dreams ourselves. I think it is too much to say, that she intentionally practiced necromancy.

I think I Love Lucy is the best comedy ever written. Lucy and Desi really loved each other, it is a pure pleasure to watch true love.
