Quote# 88065

regardless of the MSM claims, most libs like Obama are die hard atheist. Obama worships his own brain, and that means he has a very weak god (little “g”).

Jimmy Carter is an atheist, and he teaches Sunday School. He no more believes the bible, than Obama does.

To be a true democrat, one has to deny the Bible. You cannot agree with abortion, welfare, gov run schools, gay marriage, gays in the military….. and believe the Bible.

Plenty of good Democrats are Christians. Just because you have a religion doesn't mean you have to act irrational (I don't give a damn what people believe; it's what they DO that counts). If only atheists were Democrats, my party would be a shitload smaller.

Big Jilm

You seem to have a problem with correlation not equaling causation.

Let me demonstrate:

1. More realistic people deny the Bible.
2. More realistic people happen to be democratic.

But one doesn't have to deny the Bible to be Democrat nor be Democrat to deny the Bible.

No True Scotsman fallacy.

6/29/2012 10:23:24 AM

So fucking what.

6/29/2012 10:30:13 AM

Wait, wasn't Jesus the one who encouraged people to give to and help those less fortunate then them? Didn't he go around and heal the sick and disabled? Didn't he preach not to judge others unless you're prepared to be judged yourself?

Now I don't believe in the Bible myself, and honestly if Jesus was real, I think he was just a normal guy who wondered why we couldn't all get along. Based on his actions, I think he would have absolutely no problem with welfare, universal healthcare, and pretty much almost everything you declare "ungawdly".

"That Hammerheads like this are multiplying and being listened to is the most frightening omen for the future of this country..."

Did you by any chance play a game from the Thief series?

Those are some great reasons to vote Democrat. Thanks, RANGERP.

I kind of agree. Obama is too smart to believe that there is an invisible man in the sky running the show. He has to profess faith in order to get elected but I'd bet he is an atheist. Or a muslim, communist nazi. One or the other.

6/29/2012 1:08:04 PM

Thankfully, this freak isn't in charge of deciding who is and is not an atheist. I would like to set him a task. Find one prominent politician with a federal office who is an avowed atheist. Find just one who has come out and boldly said "I don't believe in God" who went on to win an election.

You cannot agree with abortion, welfare, gov run schools, gay marriage, gays in the military….. and believe the Bible.

Yes you can.

6/29/2012 1:30:22 PM

Gays in the military? Jonathon loved David.
Welfare? "Sell all that you have and give the money to the poor."
Abortion? Causing an undesired miscarriage is specifically worth a fine and NOT treated as taking a life.
Government run schools are nowhere condemned in the Bible.
Gay marriage? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
You cannot be a Republican and believe in the Bible.

Jimmy Carter is an atheist, and he teaches Sunday School. He no more believes the bible, than Obama does.

It would be a far stretch for me to say I'm a Carter fan and I hate how he slobbers all over God and Jesus in every second sentence he utters, but one certainly can't deny his sincerity and the good and valuable work he does for the community.

Even as an atheist I have to say that picking on Carter's personal christian belief is a bit unfair.

6/29/2012 2:46:38 PM

@ J. James - WTF is a "strong", gnostic atheist?"

You don't have to gnow very much to understand that religion, spirituality, and the Bible are all gnonsense.

6/29/2012 2:49:18 PM

Jimmy Carter is an atheist, and he teaches Sunday School. He no more believes the bible, than Obama does.

Jimmy Carter is a Baptist. You have no real idea what an atheist is beyond the strawman caricature you saw in a Chick Tract.

Jimmy Carter was, and remains, a liberal evangelical. No, it is not an oxymoron. Whether you choose to believe it or not, they do exist.

6/29/2012 3:20:16 PM

Oh, and:

'My God is bigger than your god!!!'

6/29/2012 3:24:52 PM

From what I read, Jimmy Carter was the most sincerely religious president probably ever. Much more so than Reagan, who was undoubtedly playing up the extent of his religiosity in order to appeal to the Christian right, like the old actor that he was.
Also, while the Bible does forbid homosexuality, it says nothing about abortion, welfare, and government run schools. Welfare in particular I think would be absolutely consistent with Christian principles.
But maybe you're reading the new Republican edition of the Bible, with all the commie-sounding stuff cut out.

6/29/2012 3:28:47 PM

Old Viking

Wait! I deny the Bible. Are you saying there's something wrong with that?

6/29/2012 3:42:28 PM

Obama: United Church of Christ.
Carter: Baptist. (Fortunately, when fundies hijacked the Southern Baptist Convention, Carter left to join a more moderate Baptist denomination.)

Anyway, STFU and FOAD.

Seeker Lancer

Jimmy Carter is an atheist? Really? You live in one warped reality my friend.

Though I like where your train of thought is going. People who disagree with those things should re-evaluate their beliefs and quit the church.

6/29/2012 4:37:28 PM

Atheist: anyone who isn't a member of my lunatic-fringe fundamentalist church

6/29/2012 5:54:39 PM

Jimmy Carter actually works to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and comfort the sick. You know, the kind of stuff Jesus did. He is a better Christian than you will ever be.

What fucking arrogance.

6/29/2012 6:35:21 PM

@Zimmer: and none of those things sit particularly well with the far right. American religious conservatism today is the unholy crossbreeding of Ayn Rand with apocalyptic Christianity and rightwing militant fascism. Witness the increasingly strident demands from people like Bryan Fischer to let the poor and uninsured sick suffer the consequences of their poverty by allowing them to suffer and die, just as nature intended.

American religious conservatism hasn't had much in common with the more humanistic teachings of Jesus for a very, very long time. RangerDerp here is a perfect example.

thank god I'm an atheist

I don't see why not. The bible has no prohibition against abortion and even killing babies is acceptable behavior. I do believe that there are parts in the bible which could be interpreted (and probably should be) to be for gay marriage and that was a centurion. (That's a roman soldier, FYI.) Schools and welfare were not mentioned in the bible, but helping the poor was promoted by Jesus. Actually, I think being a Republican may be incompatible with the bible.
