Quote# 88252

The search for the "god particle" has been important because, if ever discovered, it is supposed to be able to account for the beginning of the universe (i.e., matter from non-matter) without outside intervention (i.e., a Creator, or aliens). This is extremely important to humanistic, atheistic evolution--the ability to explain everything without the need for God.

I heard this reported twice on FOX news today by two different reporters, and both reported it had been found. This was interesting to me, because I'd already seen articles and headlines saying they had almost discovered it, or were really close to discovering it, or had discovered evidence of it. One said they had discovered the shadow and the footprint of it.

This is the way evolutionists have always operated. Claim more than they really have, and only those who listen or read carefully really get what they are saying. Or make a rash claim initially, then later when it is proven to not be what they claimed, make a quiet disclaimer. Meanwhile, the initial claim is the impression that sticks in everybody's head. Many never hear the disclaimer. And many others continue to repeat the initial claim after the disclaimer has come out, not having researched enough to know there even was a disclaimer.

Ah, if they were to know that it's called God-particle because it was the abbreviation from goddamned-particle...

Also, did this guy just said how science works? As in, "we're close to check if this experiment confirms our theory"->"This experiment proves/disproves our theory. Let's add/remove this theory from our current worldview" And that is better that "The world is this way because a book says so, and we won't accept any deviations from that". Well, it's easier, I guess.

Also, the shadow thing was from an atom, that is another topic : P
So we can also see atoms now, that is another thing that science has got over God. Science can be seen : P

If these morons would do more than watch FAUX NOISE they would know that it's call "The God Particle" because "The God Damned Particle" was deemed too.. rude. Ah, facts and fundies just don't mix.

Mister Spak

"This is the way evolutionists have always operated."

Damn right. We found the Higgs boson in the LHC. Where is your god?

7/11/2012 4:32:50 AM

No, the Higgs does not explain how the universe began, what it does is explain why particles have mass.

The mere fact that Fox was reporting it somewhat accurately means your dark age worldview is on life support.

7/11/2012 4:35:14 AM

Sorry, I think they actually found it.Sorry to ruin the rest of your life.

BTW- You RR people are ones to talk about false alarms, aren't you??
IT'S THE RAPTURE!! -No,wait..
IT'S THE RAPTURE!! -Uhm, sorry...

7/11/2012 4:38:09 AM

The discovery of the Higgs Boson proves the Standard Model and supersymmetry. That's it.

It has exactly fuck-all to do with biological evolution, no more than spectroscopy or the theory of gravity. Stop conflating them.

7/11/2012 4:59:20 AM

Higgs Boson

Jan51 really has the wrong end of the stick here, but what she (I'm assuming Jan51 is a woman) is saying is actually quite pertinent, for the wrong reasons.

It is depressingly common for a science story to make a big splash in the popular press, and be covered in an overly sensationalistic way, whereas developments on the story (which are not as exciting / good at selling newspapers), don't get much coverage. So you often end up with news coverage that is at odds with the eventual developments that emerge after further study.

But this is not the scientists' fault - it is the fault of the popular press, who cover science stories as though they are celebrity gossip. Among scientists, the developments that are made after an initial discovery are well-known and openly acknowledged / celebrated.

7/11/2012 5:10:37 AM

This is how science work, stupid. You try and try and try again to prove your hypothesis to be correct. When you fail, you do some changes and try again.

"The initial claim" might be what sticks in the mind of FOX listeners, as they can't digest anything tougher than idiocies and fluff. The rest of us, who are a bit more intelligent and can concentrate longer than a minute at a time, we remember that they didn't succeed this time; we'll have to wait for the next trial.

Most of us probably don't bother ourselves in the meantime. We know that when they find something extraordinary, we will read/hear about it in proper news* and in science journals.

* As in those who publish actual news, not paid advertisments from a political party or religious organization.

Sentry Gun

It's quite a critic you've got there, but you're mixing up scientists (not evolutionists you dumb cunt) and the media relaying what they say.

7/11/2012 5:20:09 AM

The scientists had to VERIFY they found what they thought they did, because, unlike the religious, scientists don't just assume they're right the first time.

7/11/2012 5:23:16 AM

If there has been a disclaimer for evolution, I must have missed it. Maybe I should watch Fox news (ignoring the fact that we don't get it here in South Africa - thank fuck).

Brendan Rizzo

You are complaining about the way the media reports on science, then? So do I. Because the general public (particularly in America) is stupid and does not understand even the most elementary scientific principles, the media writes articles such as these to an eighth-grade reading and comprehension level, thus inducing dozens of misconceptions that just will not go away in the public consciousness. Previous examples include the ideas that evolution is a linear process that leads to perfection, and that radiation can cause this nonexistent "next step", which invariably involves superpowers. Even now, the idiots at the Associated Press are knowingly manufacturing controversy by naming the damn thing the "God particle" in the first place. The Higgs boson has nothing to do with God or religion, but will that stop the media from dumbing down society further? Hell no!

Doubting Thomas

Keep sticking your head in the sand. We've found the "god particle." Science is marching forward while religion just continues to stagnate.

7/11/2012 6:36:41 AM

This is the way evolutionists have always operated.

So evolutionary biologists have always done physics research? Have all dentists been fixing people's cars too?

7/11/2012 6:39:55 AM

"I heard this reported twice on FOX news today by two different reporters, and both reported it had been found."

Faux News, you say? Well, that explains why you don't know any damn thing about what you're babbling on about.

7/11/2012 7:28:19 AM

Raised by Horses

Whereas we Rapturites have extremely stringent requirements regarding what we'll believe. Let me try that once more. I almost managed to say it with a straight face this time.

"I heard this reported twice on FOX news today"

Hold on, ma'am. I think I see the problem right here.

7/11/2012 8:05:35 AM

This is the way evolutionists have always operated. Claim more than they really have

No, that's the way the media operates. Make some spectacular claim to get peoples' attention, then bury the disclaimers in the small print.

7/11/2012 8:27:40 AM

Typical fundie "I have no idea what was just discovered but I know it's wrong because God" response.
It's a moron from Ruptured Retard. "Nuff said.

7/11/2012 8:42:33 AM

Watching FAUX"News" all day? I think I see part of the problem.

7/11/2012 9:52:40 AM

The search for the "god particle" has been important...

Prof. Higgs did NOT call it the "god particle" but the "god damn particle" because it was so illusive. Alas, some publishers were a little too set on censorship and changed it to the "god particle", which is utterly incorrect!

It's the God Damn particle!

7/11/2012 10:03:32 AM

STOP confusing evolution with the origin of the universe!

7/11/2012 10:30:55 AM

@Sentry Gun.

7/11/2012 11:15:54 AM

Eh? I don't get this. They said they were close to finding it, and then they found it. So they were right then. No disclaimer.
Anyway, all this is beside the point. Particle physics has got nothing to do with religion.
Maybe if you didn't spend all your time on Rapture Ready and watching Fox News, you might get more factual information.
