[on Russian Orthodox]

I was in Russia 11 years ago for just over three weeks, while there we visited many of their places of worship all over Russia. I saw nothing that was Christ like at any of them. There were dead people encased in glass being worshiped, there was planets and stars in some where astrology was worshiped along with dead saints that had helped the towns people, there was candle lighting and kissing icons, there was magic and praying to the dead. There was healing springs of water coming out of the ground in the midst of the church, all seemed to be mixed with Catholicism. In one we visited, the priests buried their dead in a cave that the church was built over and they believed that it was so sacred that even the dust as you walked in the cave would clean and preserve your shoes for years, only the vary rich could be buried there and it showed, the priests eat on solid gold plates. In one only the preist could go in so all you could do was point to which icons you wanted him to kiss for you, then he would go in and do it for you as only he could, you stood out side with a lit candle. Most of the icons were of Marry with lots of silver around her. Like I said, there wasn't much Christ likeness there.

Oh noes, someone with a different interpretation of Christianity than you!

Hate to break it to you, but there's over 10,000 different denominations of just your religion....

And you would know "Christ-likeness' how?

Ever heard about the Russian Orthodox Church? That is what you experienced in Russia, strangely enough...

Who is Marry? Do you mean Mary, the Mother of Christ? What do you think Jesus would say if he knew you disrepected his Mother?

I bet there wasn't praying to the dead, but requests for the dead to intervene on their behalf on the other side.

Catholicism is very Christ-like, actually, so if it was all "mixed with Catholicism", there must have been much that was Christ-like.

And they'd call you a heretic and I'd call you a clod.

That just sounds like a variation on the usual religious mumbo jumbo. It's probably no better and certainly no worse than the crap you lot believe.

And I wager that a few million Russians are more literate in English than you are.

And how many shekels did they hit you up for? That part should have been familiar at least. You have to look at it the same way as you would a Halloween Fun House. This is what passed for entertainment before there was the theatre, TV, and Disneyland. It's at least as real as any of those....

Translation: They weren't practicing the right religion because they weren't sitting around bitching and moaning about how terrible the world is because of gays, liberalism, Obama, and Harry Potter while waiting for Jesus to make them fly up into the sky.

Yeah! Everyone knows that Christ was self-righteous, vindictive, hated the poor and spent all of his time thinking about the rapture instead of helping other people. Christ also shunned everyone that was not exactly like him especially all of those lepers and prostitutes. Just like you rapturites.

I read your comment and all I see is confirmation bias. I've also been to Russia and I visited several churches. I saw icons of Jesus Christ in all of them. I guess you just chose to ignore those.

Oh teh noes, people have different beliefs than me? I never knew that! There must be something wrong with them!

Seriously, why is that a bad thing? Religions aren't "wrong", even if you don't agree with them.

Wasn't there enough hatred and bigotry for you?

At first I was like o.O

Because I was raised Catholic and much of what kjilstrom described sounded a whole lot like Catholic shit. Then I realized he was rapture retarded and remembered that Catholics are not Christians to them.

Also, "buried their dead in a cave"... you mean like, oh I don't know... JESUS?!?

One more note - dude, learn to spell.

As Berny says, Russian Orthodox Churches are packed full of Icons of Christ. I call bullshit!

I would say that praying for the immediate end of the world, hating social programs, and judging people aren't very Christ like either.

A Protestant goes to an Orthodox country and is surprised because it isn't all Protestanty.
Meanwhile, a Russian Orthodox goes to America and is perplexed because the churches are all bare, the priests don't have beards, there are no icons and incense and candles, just a guy ranting in the pulpit about how teh gays are evil and you ought to vote Republican.

Now you know how I view your nonsense too!
