Quote# 88326

Glen Urquhart: “Do you know, where does this phrase ’separation of church and state’ come from? Anybody know?”

Audience member: “From the Devil.”

History teacher: “I do.”

Glen Urquhart (Pointing to audience member and laughing): “But I told you.”

History teacher: “No. I know. But I’m the history teacher. It was a letter.”

Glen Urquhart: “That is, actually, that exact phrase is not in Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists. He was reassuring them the federal government wouldn’t trample on their religion. The exact phrase ’separation of Church and State’ came out of Adolph Hitler’s mouth. That’s where it comes from. So the next time your liberal friends talk about the separation of Church and State, ask them why they’re Nazis.”

So Glen Urquhart is a liar.
Hitler himself insisted that the state and church must work together, and must not be seperated at all.

The phrase comes from the rationalist teachings of late 18th century philosophers, and idealists such as Jefferson.

A lot of stuff about the merits of Christianity came out of Hitler's mouth. So the next time your conservative friends talk about how we have to get God back in government, ask them why they're Nazis.

Fixed.

"...that exact phrase is not in Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists." - Glen Urquhart

"...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." - Thomas Jefferson

Quite right Mr, Urquart, the words is 'between', not 'of'. Now, perhaps you could provide the quote from Hitler.

Even if we assume you're right, Hitler also enjoyed watercolor painting, strongly opposed animal cruelty, and was an oxygen-breathing carbon-based lifeform. Your point?

Tempus

Sure thing. And when you do, I'll ask you why you're fascists.

Last time I checked, Hitler spoke German. He hardly uttered the exact phrase "separation of Church and State". The fact that he was a creationist Christian makes it even more unbelievable.

Why am I not surprised that Mr. Urquhart is a Tea Party candidate?

This is why America cannot change. Hatred of rationality is hard-wired into the culture. There is no difference between us and Iran.

Just complete bullshit.

The next time your fundie friends talk about Hitler enforcing the separation of church and state, ask them why they are morons.

(I'd hazard to guess it's because they've been listening to Glen Urquhart proselytizing).

No surprise here. Just another lying-sack-of-shit for Jesus.
Unfortunately, his followers are too ignorant to look up the facts for themselves and will simply parrot what Urquart says (and they can vote).
Morons like this get elected because the ones who could prevent it have grown apathetic.

Whatever this guy's smoking to think Hitler advocated the separation of church and state, he can keep it. It obviously causes brain damage.

Welcome to the wonderful land of the internet: where Nazi is a synonym for anyone you don't like!

So, Nazis believed in separation of Church and State, and absolutely did nothing that compromised the ability of any religious groups to practice their religion. Is that what you're saying? 'Cause as I remember, they may have had some beefs with some religious groups...

Hitler was also a non-smoker. Everyone needs to start puffing away so we won't be like the Nazis!

The sad part is that his audience will eat that up. Not only will they not question his claim, but they will repeat it as fact.

That's not actually true. Not that you give a shot what's true, considering you live in a fact-free fantasyland.

@Brendan Rizzo
Holy Jesus fuck. Show this to most Americans and they'll balk in horror or dismiss it as the ranting of crazies. Stop painting us in such a broad brush, you boomerang bigot. Also, your Iran analogy= retarded.

Read and weep Urquhart.

And about your claim about Hitler and this separation, I can't to seem to find any source other than right-wing outrageous claims. Even if so, Hitler also stated before that he was doing the Lord's work by killing the Jews. In addition, Nazi belt buckles contained 'Gott Mit Uns' or 'God with us'.

You seem to support the idea of a theocracy, or religious fascism. Even forgetting all that, you seem to have a childish way of dealing with people who appropriately disagree with you. May I ask of you, Glen, why are you a Nazi?

GOTT MITT UNS you stupid fuck. And Jefferson supported separation of church and state. And what of conservative groups such as Aryan Nations which are Christian and read Mein Kompf and support Hitler's ideals?

I'd rather ask you why you're a liar Glen. Don't you know that you'll go to hell for that?

Jefferson said "wall of separation between church and state."

I guess it's a totally different quote without the word wall. Then again, recent fundie actions have basically been taking a battering ram to that wall, so maybe it's more fitting to say separation by itself now. Like church and state aren't DIVORCED, they're just living in different houses while they think about it.

...I like Jefferson's quote better.
