I have a cousin who lives in Adelaide, Australia and he thinks the gay agenda is quite strong there. What Oz needs to do is get schools to teach abstinence only education so kids who think they are gay will be encouraged to remain chaste. That way their numbers will go down and they will be politically powerless. Unfortunately if you say anything like that they will call you a bigot and a hater. I would rather be a "hater" in heaven than a liberal in hell

What comprehensive sex ed teaches:
- How your own reproductive anatomy works.
- On rare occasions, how the reproductive anatomy of the opposite sex works.
- The fact that "tab A in slot B" is the only natural way to make a baby, and that it doesn't always succeed.
- Failure rates for contraceptives and STD protection, so young people can be informed and know that their decision to have sex or abstain is the right one for them.
- Nothing whatsoever about gay sex.
What abstinence-only "education" teaches:
- A woman's worth lies solely in the status of a small flap of skin between her legs.
- All men are either monsters who rape every woman they can find, or saints who will protect women from the monsters. There are no in-betweens.
- Vague statements that contraceptives fail "sometimes," and a story from a woman who regrets her abortion. No mention is made of the fact that contraceptive failure is rare, or that a lot of women who have abortions don't regret them.
- Nothing whatsoever about how students' own BODIES work.
Guess which one I wish I had.

Did I understand that correctly? This guy thinks gay people having (gay) sex would somehow produce more gay people and if they would stay chaste there would be less gays?
Could it be that his parents forgot to give him the speech about the bees and the flowers?
There's a very good reason why it's called 'Adelaid '. Hell, there's even a town in Australia called...:

Given the track record of ignorance only education, Australia will soon be full of gay orgies.
Abstinance Only education is what has led to rampant ignorance about sex, and easyer sexual exploitation of young people.
It promotes the spread of STDs, and leads to unwanted pregnancys.
It does nothig to reduce the rate of homosexuality in a given population.

Um... I don't know how to tell you this, but gay people don't reproduce with each other.
See, there are fundies in other countries. I acknowledge this. But I do worry that, since fundyism has not been quarantined to one place, that sooner or later fundyism will slowly grow in popularity until one day the thought of the enlightenment will go the way of the old Greek philosophy until it is rediscovered another two millennia hence. Or perhaps I am just paranoid.

Well, as someone who also hails from Adelaide, Australia, I can't say I've noticed a particularly strong "gay agenda" (whatever the hell that is) here. Admittedly, I hear that my state was the first one in Australia to decriminalize homosexuality, so that might be it; on the other hand, though, there's unfortunately still no shortage of homophobic fuckwits here. Also rather prevalent here, unfortunately, are fundamentalist loonies. Indeed, we've now got our very own bunch of American-style fundies who regularly harangue people in public places, and hold up those cheerful signs listing all the people God hates (pretty much the entire human race) and telling us we're all going to go to hell. Yay!
"abstinence only education" is not education. It is a moral precept. We can argue whether it is a good thing to encourage young people to have or not have sex. But putting such an argument in school under the colour of religion is quite objectionable. Teach education in school. Leave the morality part to parents/community/philosophy/church (yes, church. NOt that I agree with church teachings all that much, but the proper role of church does not belong in schools).

In fundieland, it's a well-known fact that God hates everyone who isn't just like you, because you're special and everyone who even slightly disagrees with your beliefs is the spawn of Satan and should burn for eternity for their audacity. It kind of makes you wonder why he bothered creating anyone but you and your like-minded friends and family, if he was just going to be disappointed and incensed by their behavior.

Homosexuality is not an infectious disease. Engaging in gay sex does not turn the other person gay; if they willingly had gay sex with you, chances are pretty good they weren't completely hetero to begin with, and if they weren't, then what happened could probably be considered rape, and still won't turn the other party gay (and contrary to the filthy lies that the reactionaries spread, most gay people are not rapists, so you're exceedingly unlikely to experience this).

Well, maybe that's what you'd rather be, but it's not going to turn out like that.
Well, here in the states, screaming at teenaged girls that vaginal sex is evil only makes a bunch of teenage girls who do oral / anal but not vaginal sex. Hmm... maybe this poster is trying to achieve this outcome.
Once and for all, gays don't recruit. If you're not gay, then you don't want to be gay. If you are, then you do. Simple.

Speak for yourself, Mikey-boy. :9
Hey, thickwit, the reason for "abstinence only" is pregnancy prevention. And how does not having sexual activity, other than reproducing, make 'numbers go down"? You do realize that it's heteros, even moronic ones like you, that keeps making homosexuals. Gawd you are too fucking stupid to live.
@Brendan Rizzo:
Actually, in this case, you'd be correct.
It's saying things that are obviously & patently false (like "the rest of the world doesn't have fundies like this") that earn you ire.
The US isn't perfect, and pointing out that American fundies are a problem is fine. It's just that you went on a rant for a bit about how ONLY Americans were like this, and ALL Americans (save yourself, apparently) - or at least the vast majority - were fundie.
Saying "sorry for the WBC infecting your country" is fine. Stay away from sweeping generalizations & stereotyping, and you're probably okay.
"I would rather be a 'hater' in heaven than a liberal in hell"
So you admit that your god and your religion is hateful? Oh, and repressing homosexuality is not going to make the numbers go down, especially since it's all the straight sex that keeps making gay kids!
@Brendan Rizzo: rest a bit easier. While your country currently has a pretty bad case of the fundies (and the stupids, and the hegemonic pigs, and...), these evils have been around at least since man invented writing and probably longer. Of course, you can blame you country for succumbing to them, but it most certainly didn't invent them, and it holds no monopoly on them.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
