Senetor: “We’re thinking of cutting funding for your mind control program.”
CIA Guy: “But it’s coming along brilliantly!”
Senetor: “We need some proof.”
CIA Guy: “Well— um— OK! How ’bout this? We’ll get some grown men to become devoted fans of ‘My Little Pony!’ Will that show you how damned effective our new system is?”
Senetor: “My God! If you can do that, then we’ll shovel heaps of money at you! —And can you do something about Justice Roberts, too?”

I don't think this is supposed to be a serious conspiracy theory.
Also, Rarity is best pony and no brainwashing was needed to get me to admit that.
You...will...OBEY DERPY!
^^ Look, it's a damned good series, and I'm not ashamed to be a brony.
As for the posting...consider where it came from.
Actually, "Bronies" are a pretty good argument for the existence of mind control. That's the only way I can explain the phenomenon. And I'm not talking about guys who just watch "My Little Pony," I mean the ones who go to conventions and dress up as their favorite characters.
I'm actually inclined to believe this. A man's pride and bravado is the most powerful force known to humankind next to the wrath of a woman scorned, and yet a nominally good show for little 6-year-old girls can defeat that? I don't buy it. Not for a minute. There has to be something more to it than that.

The shackles of "masculinity" are being cast off. Viva la revolution!
Nope -- I sort of agree with this one.
And the first cartoon with a plot and real attempts at character development in years? Man, you need to see more anime.
I doubt that this is true. That being said, I really, really hope it is. Not because I think there's anything wrong with being a fan of MLP, but because it would be pretty funny.
Okay, this is the funniest damn conspiracy theory I have ever heard.
@Doubting Thomas: There are weird people like that in every fandom, I think. It's just more noticeable in some of them.
I admittedly don't get the whole brony thing, but don't we all have certain beloved shows/books/games that we're a little too old for? Don't be so quick to judge.
That said, this is a really witty quote.
Come now fillies and gentlecolts.
There is no need for us to fight over which of the Mane Cast is the best. I mean its clearly Rainbow Dash followed by Twilight Sparkle. The real contest is who comes third.
If you actually had a working mind control device, this conversation would be MUCH shorter:
Senator: "Bill, we're gutting the funding for your mind control project."
CIA Guy: "I think not. (And neither do you)." (zaps senator with mind control ray)
Senator: "My God! What was I thinking !? Quick, take these piles of cash!"
CIA Guy: "Much obliged."
(now at home, rereading the comments)
i guess i was wrong a few posts upwards... sheesh!ù who'd a thunk it! 0.o"
@Stonespiral
Let's assume 5 years for 'in years'
Symbionic Titan. Generator Rex. Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The last season of ATLA. And that's ignoring Japanese and other foreign animations.
It's far from the first cartoon in years to have plots of developing characters.
Actually pretty funny. Probably not serious, but with Moonbattery, you never can tell.
Also, Applejack is best pony.
I actually think this is symptomatic of a more prevalent idea amongst the far right wing: any behavior that goes contrary to expectations/societal norms is the result of brainwashing.
When they blame "Gay recruitment", "Jewish mind control" or "demonic influence" they usually offer the alternative of antlike conformity to those who are "freed" of said influence.
Lady Rainicorn is best pony.

If you guys really want an explanation for why we like the show, try watching a few of the episodes on YouTube. Or at least watch CR's take on it.
Short answer: It defies convention because it's a cartoon aimed at little girls which isn't bland, insipid garbage, and it's also an entertaining show in its own right.
I wouldn't call it the first genuinely good cartoon in years - Avatar, Adventure Time, Regular Show and Phineas & Ferb predate it after all - but still, the adventures of a bunch of cheerful, colorful ponies who happen to be incredibly neurotic and insane are pretty damn fun, and the show is just so charming a lot of the time.
Meh, this just sounds like a guy making a joke
@Stonespiral - First cartoon with character/plot development in years? Seriously?
Avatar. 'Nuff said.
@Doubting Thomas
I think it's just the internet's tendency to take things that are mildly amusing, like Nyah cat or something, and just go apeshit all over it like its the invention of the wheel.
It's funny how some people will destroy a bigoted MRA's quote in seconds, and then turn around and insult people for "Watching a show for five-year-olds".
My Little FSTDT: Double Standards are Magic.
Seriously, I may like this site quite a bit, but some of you have some unreasonably negative kneejerk reactions to the MLP fandom. I encourage many of you to evaluate your opinions thereof, and ask yourselves if automatically viewing people who happens to like the show a certain way is in line with the views of a rationalist, or a bigot.
@M343:
I think that is the result of a mindset that seems to be pretty prevalent on the internet: “If I myself don’t like something, it has no reason to exist. And if someone else likes this thing which I don’t like they are idiots and I have to insult them to show how much better I am.” Which is kind of fundie in its own way
I sometimes lurk at the message boards at the IMDb and you could get the feeling that half of the topics to any given movie or series is from people who don’t like them and only go there to insult the people who watch them and tell them to stop
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
