I'm sure that he felt exactly the same way at the end of the conversation--"like arguing with a brick wall".

"I told him he needed to stop denying the word of God to fit his scientific theories. "
You need to stop denying observable reality to fit your creation myths.

If we relied solely on the Buybull for all our education, we'd still be dwelling in the Dark Ages.
OND can blow me.

I pity the poor teacher rying to do his job while the son of this idiot started parroting long refuted misconceptions.

Oh, my poor irony meter...
I'll bet he thought you were several shades thicker than a brick wall. You don't need to be atheist to believe in evolution, you know.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with my son's biology teacher. He said that he believes in the six-leggedness of insects although he didn't mean to teach it to the students as absolute fact. I asked him if he was a Christian. He said he was. I asked him how he could believe in a theory that denies the word of God. He said that he didn't think six-leggedness denied the word of God because "Leviticus is not written as a biology textbook." I told him he needed to stop denying the word of God to fit his scientific theories. He kept insisting that they were compatible. No matter what I said, he denied that they were incompatible. It was like arguing with a brick wall.
Fixed.

it's been a long time since I had to replace an ironmeter - this one was industrial strength, guaranteed for numerous fundie events, and made of titanium steel!

Fundy isn't as stupid as it seems: Evolution and the two creation myths in Genesis ARE incompatible.

If God's word disagrees with evolution then the evidence says God's word is wrong.

Christ, let the man do his job. He's right; you can be a Christian and believe in evolution, you don't have to have a literal interpretation of Genesis, it's obviously an allegorical story that, when taken literally, becomes absurd.

You're absolutely right. Reality and the Bible are totally incompatible. If only the teacher would have listened to you.

Well I will agree with the Fundie, Christian creation dogma and evolution are NOT compatible. Guess which one stands up to the burden of proof?

The teacher is wrong. If there's no Adam and Eve, no original sin, there's no need for Jesus. If evolution is true, which it is, the whole of Christianity collapses.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with my son's biology teacher. He said that he believes in macroevolution although he didn't mean to teach it to the students as absolute fact. I asked him if he was an Aborigine. He said he was. I asked him how he could believe in a theory that denies the spirits of Dreamtime. He said that he didn't think macroevolution denied the spirits of Dreamtime because "Dreamtime is not written as a history." I told him he needed to stop denying the spirits of Dreamtime to fit his scientific theories. He kept insisting that they were compatible. No matter what I said, he denied that they were incompatible. It was like arguing with a brick wall.
Dream on.
