Piltdown Man was a hoax with bones that were found in a gravel pit...

"Inherit the Wind" is what happens to anything made in Hollywood. Overblown drama and cliche's get played to the hilt. Their in it for money, not truth. Also, the bible was written by several flawed men, over a lot of years. And Evolution of today is a bit different then when Darwin discovered it. Also, I don't get the Piltdown man bit.
7/24/2012 8:36:02 AM
"I don't get it, and I refuse to try" is not a question.
7/24/2012 8:49:52 AM
Let me get this straight:
When somebody misrepresents the Bible, that's heresy.
When somebody misrepresents the Theory of Evolution, that's absolute proof positive that evolution is bunk.
7/24/2012 8:54:14 AM
Oh My Dog!
Piltdown Man believed in evolution, and it killed him.
I don't quite follow...
Piltdown Man was a hoax, but it was science that discovered that.
7/24/2012 8:58:51 AM
Burning StakeAlso, I don't get the Piltdown man bit.
In other words, because he was not as evolved, he died out.
It's supposed to be a joke.
Of course, the fact that it's also a hoax
doesn't help it, either.

Piltdown man was proven by the scientific community to be a hoax, you fucktard.
7/24/2012 9:06:26 AM
Ah, Thanks Burning Stake. I haven't had my coffee yet and it eluded me.
7/24/2012 9:19:35 AM
You know that there has been 150 years of scientific research to bolster Darwin's original theory, right?
You know that there is nothing in the way of evidence for anything the Bible says in Genesis, right?
You know that Piltdown Man was a hoax uncovered by scientists, right?
We know that scientists aren't infallible, that is why there are a myriad of verification and validation processes for any new discovery.
When was the last time you gave your belief system a serious reality check?
7/24/2012 9:26:39 AM
Jaaaake chose stupid because it's easier than having to think.
7/24/2012 9:26:57 AM
Well, "Inherit the Wind" never claimed to be a documentary of the Scopes Trial, one reason why all the names are different.
The "true scientific method" is somewhat more complicated than determining "Goddidit," which is how Piltdown was exposed as a hoax.
7/24/2012 9:37:15 AM
Your words of wisdom aren't very wise

"“Inherit the Wind” does a disservice to anyone intelligent, as it barely follows the actual trial and makes caricatures of anyone daring to question the holy gospel of Darwin"
OK, that's a fair point. The film isn't a documentary and does over-simplify some characters.
The rest is just anti-scientific bollocks. And Piltdown Man was exposed as a hoax by the scientific community.
7/24/2012 9:48:16 AM
Did "Inherit the Wind" suck? Yes. Does that make you any less stupid? No. Did you seriously just cite the Piltdown Man in the 21st century?
Yes, and it makes me sad.
7/24/2012 10:01:11 AM
If you missed the point , the teacher in the actual scopes trial lost.
Of course the creationist lawyer came out looking like a dick.
7/24/2012 10:29:56 AM
Creationism, if taught honestly, would be a great tool for demonstrating what real science is, by being an example of the opposite.
Instead, it pushes the christianist agenda while trying desperately to diminish observable reality, which is real, not a myth, but in the land of the right, the big book-o-fairy tales is inerrant, as that is their own, and only, reality. Besides their own selfish greed.
Some last wise words: We have the fossils. We win.
7/24/2012 10:51:51 AM
I advise you not to look to Hollywood for education on any topic. Try a library instead.
Nobody pretends that scientists are inerrant, least of all scientists themselves. The problem is that since science provides the best avenue for progress, fewer and fewer people are turning to the bible to increase their knowledge of the world. That makes fundies crazy. Or crazier.

“Inherit the Wind” does a disservice to anyone intelligent, as it barely follows the actual trial
You can say the same for any movie or TV show about court cases. Real court cases aren't usually dramatic enough to make a movie about. If you want to see the court case as it actually was you're kind of SOL as they 1) don't record court cases on video and 2) hadn't invented the portable camera yet. However, you can read the transcript if you like.
and makes caricatures of anyone daring to question the holy gospel of Darwin
Just like you just made a caricature of anyone that accepts the Theory of Evolution? You kind of lose any right to bitch once you do the very thing you accuse someone else of.
“Origin of Species” was a book written by a flawed man
but in the land of the left, the scientist is inerrant
Really? I mean I know people that will treat a scientist's word as inerrant but most people tend to know that scientists make mistakes too.
Piltdown Man believed in evolution, and it killed him.
Evolution kills everyone because life kills everyone. Life is the world's leading cause of death!

"The Ten Commandments" - Cecil B. DeMille, 1956 (remake) Does a disservice to any intelligent person.
Where's your Messiah now, Jaaaake-ass?
7/24/2012 11:41:35 AM
It was a movie fucktards.

Ugh, I lived in Ocean Beach for years, it's an awesome place, this crap is in no way indicative of the type of folks who live there. Shame, shame, shame.

I get it. You didn't like "Inherit the Wind." Fine. It's not a documentary. But if you like documentaries, try this one: "Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial." It was originally a NOVA show and uses the transcripts of the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School Board trial. It was that trial, incidentally, which showed how ID is actually religion and not science and prevented ID from being taught as science in public schools. Let us know how you like it.

Piltdown Man believed in exactly what the Cardiff Giant believed in: nothing. Neither one existed in life. They were both hoaxes. How old is your crib sheet, and do you really exist?
