Uh huh. That's why such shooting massacres are virtually unheard of in what you wingnuts call "godless socialist Europe," right?
And don't even say "Anders Behring Breivik." We'll ignore the fact that he was steaming because Norway wasn't a xenophobic, authoritarian, plutocratic theocracy similar to the political fap fantasies of you and the rest of the American far right. That particular tragedy caused such a shock because stuff like that rarely happens in Northern and Western Europe and is especially rare in Scandinavia. According to data from the UN, we have a rate of homicide approximately six times higher than the EU average, and we also have a much higher proportion of religious people, so just shut the fuck up with your bullshit, Mikey, and quit using a national tragedy as a platform to spew your lies for Jesus.
You're a sick, mendacious vulture.

You know, in "sin infested" Germany here, there were 2 school shootings in the last 10 years.
I believe that is less than there were in the USA.
7/30/2012 4:15:17 AM
You god is small enough to be ordered out of schools?
7/30/2012 4:32:30 AM
Vulture Award seconded!
Here in atheistic Sweden I don't think we have had a school shooting, ever. Oh, sorry, my mistake; we had one in 1961; seven students were injured, one of them later died. Back then we did have a state church, though, and those students probably spent every school-year's last day in church.
In the list of massacres in Wikipedia, there isn't a single one from Sweden, but several from the US.
70 percent, of the hundred or so that are murdered per year in Sweden, are killed by a relative or acquaintance, and most are killed with a knife. Very few people have access to a gun. To my knowledge, only police officers can get gun carrying permits. Sweden has been a (more or less) civilized country for about a thousand years; you don't need to be able to defend yourself on a daily basis.

First of all, nobody has forced God out of anything. People can still pray if they want to.
Secondly, only an idiot thinks that making everyone recite prayers they may or may not believe in is going to stop gun violence.
7/30/2012 4:46:04 AM
Our crime problem, gun problem and violence problem all are a result of our fundie problem.
Fundies commit crimes, shoot people with guns and are violent because a giant man with a long white beard who lives on clouds told them to do it.
7/30/2012 4:58:38 AM
"And since we've ordered God out... all hell breaks loose."
I see what you did there.
7/30/2012 5:06:46 AM
Filin De Blanc
Yeah, because historically belief in God has been so helpful for stopping the mentally ill from committing acts of violence. Look at Andrea Yates.

You know, I was actually willing to believe Mike Huckabee was one of the more sane conservative politians...
You know, I WAS, until he said stuff like this.
7/30/2012 5:12:31 AM
Yes I'm sure a mass murderer would be entirely deterred from acting out if exposed repeatedly to a book where the main character doles out mass murder, repeatedly!
7/30/2012 5:29:11 AM
Holy crap does God have a fragile ego. He lets people die if you don't let him into schools and militaries (You can damn well talk about God in public conversations. Where do you think street preachers come from?)? I hope nobody calls him mean names or he might let half the nation die.
7/30/2012 5:42:12 AM
Ah, yes, Mike Huckabee. He sees Muslims in women wearing babuskas and terrorism in french fries. I'm not surprised he would see sin as a reason for violence, just like Pat Robertson saw feminists and abortionists and homosexuals (oh my!) in the disaster of September 11, 2001. I expect any day now that he'll blame his bunchy underwear on the heathen Chinese or see satan's image on his toast.

Ah Mike Huckabee. Destroying his likable and civil demeanor one insane and unfounded comment after another.

Until now I couldn't have thought less of you Mike.
Thanks for lowering the bar.
I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
7/30/2012 6:41:44 AM
This man could have been the president of the United States.
Every time I think of that I realize how close we are to falling off the wagon into a theocracy.
Let's not forget Breivik was a Christian fundie.
7/30/2012 6:42:35 AM
"And since we've ordered god out of our schools, and communities, the military and public conversations, you know we really shouldn't act so surprised... when all hell breaks loose."
6th Commandment: Thou shalt not kill
Your argument is invalid.
Funny then, that when I - here in the UK - go to my local cinema to see "Dark Knight Rises", post-Dunblane, the only gunshots I'll hear in that auditorium will only
be those in the film itself.
'Guns don't kill people, people kill people', my left bollock. Simply take guns out of the equation.
But then, we're dealing with an inbred redneck subhuman fundie who once said (emph-ass-is added):
“I almost wish that there would be, like, a simultaneous telecast, and all Americans would be forced–forced at gunpoint no less
–to listen to every David Barton message, and I think our country would be better for it. I wish it’d happen.”
I've said it before, but bears repeating: Right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity in the US represents a clear and present danger - infinitely worse than Al-Qaeda - to all normal, decent, democratic civilised societies.
My thoughts on the matter:
If the NRA speaks out against gun control, post-Aurora atrocity, they're fucked, as - painting themselves into a corner, argument-wise - they're shown as condoning such an act. Can you say 'P.R. Disaster', NRA?
Mitt Romney has previously spoken out for gun control. Obama says nothing. Post-shooting, opinion polls indicate increasing support against gun control. Should Romney 'flip-flop' policy-wise - or not - he loses votes, regardless.
Obama just has to say: 'My hands are tied policy-wise; the Repubicans rule the Senate. What can I do personally? You tell me.'
The electorate can send him the message, via voting him in a 2nd time, as well as a massive Democrat landslide (Senate/HoR) in the Midterms: 'Your arms are now untied. Here. You have our blessing - and the political/legal teeth - to take measures to ensure such atrocities become a thing of the past'.
After Dunblane here in the UK, it was after a similar message was sent by a lobby group, that guns were banned in this country. That particular lobby group? The British Public. As in Electorate. MPs in Parliament had no choice but to listen. And act.
And - via a letter to my (then) MP John Prescott - did I do my part in this lobbying.
I can go to my local cinema and see a film, safe in the knowledge that the only gunfire I'll see/hear is in said film.
It's in your hands, USA.
'Guns don't kill people, people kill people' eh, NRA? As proven by the example of the UK, post-Dunblane, just remove guns from the equation. It's rather fucking difficult to be killed by a stone/knife etc from many yards away, if they're not thrown accurately enough and/or with sufficient force; certainly with sufficient volume (a bag of stones = fucking heavy. A shitload of knives; our Police have a Zero Tolerance policy against carrying just one knife in public). I'm afraid that argument holds as much water as a colander these days, NRA.
Japan has even more hyper-draconian gun laws than the UK.
Moral: Seems there are people in other countries who can live - certainly exist - perfectly well without the need of/for a gun. PROTIP: The 2nd Amendment was put in the Constitution at a time when the fledgling USA had no established armed forces to speak of, thus necessitating the need for an 'armed militia' - citizens - in defence of said country; thus the right then
to 'Keep and Bear Arms'.
2012. US Army. US Navy. US Air Force. US Marine Corps.
So why aren't you fighting alongside such in Afghanistan, o brave gun-fucking 'Armchair Warriors' of America...?
7/30/2012 6:46:22 AM
@Several commenters: Enough with the vulture vilification, yes? Something wrong with comparing such behavior to ghuls instead?
7/30/2012 6:46:24 AM
No Huck. You dont have a "sin" problem. You have a REAL problem.
You have not ordered god out of anything, and you have a culture of gun worship.
7/30/2012 6:54:09 AM
Nothing I have to say beats Jeff Tarbell's post on the original site:
"Hey, wait. I thought lack of religion in schools causes tornadoes, abortions cause forest fires and gay marriage causes tsunamis. Now you're telling me it's mass killings?
Boy, I've got a lot to learn about science."
7/30/2012 7:13:28 AM
Does this dweeb realize that murder rates have been going down in the USA for 20 years? At the same time more and more people have become Atheists or lack a clear faith.
Oh and as been pointed out repeatidly Atheists are in short supply in prisons.
7/30/2012 7:39:57 AM
Mike when we had god everywhere in the 1600s, accused witches were hung and Native Americans were slaughtered and called savages. Learn2history also you're a fucking vulture
7/30/2012 7:54:03 AM
What we have is a Huckabee problem.
