What, no non-compete clause for the prince of darkness?

I have my fair share of fundy family members and as such have experienced some very weird situations. An aunt of mine talked to me about Revelations and the second coming, stating that she thought it was already underway and that where the bible mentions the unification of the world was actually the media unifying the world and it was Satans' tool.
After questioning her further on this bit of information she later got agitated with my points and examples by stating \"I'm not an idiot, I watch Fox News and I keep track of world events and see what is happening\".
The media is the devil ... yet you remain up to date thru them? heh.
As a side note, she believes that satan has infiltrated the school system and changed the way mathmatics is taught so that the devil's servants (athiests) can twist facts and data to better argue against god. Her proof? She has an 1880 math book that teaches 0 divided by any number is 0 (0 parts of nothing is nothing) but any number diveded by 0 is that number (zero parts of that number still leaves that number). I tried to explain the concept of 0 numbers or a number of 0's to no avail. Anyway, thought I would share.

Nightmare the clown
Bad movies as evidence for the existance of the Devil?
Could work. (jk)

Just Rick, that story about your aunt is hilarious.
You could always try to explain limit functions to her.
Basically, think of the equation:
f(x) = 1/x
Obviously you cannot plug \"0\" directly into this equation. What you *can* do is find the limit of f(x) as x approaches zero.
Think of it this way:
f(1) = 1/1 = 1
f(0.5) = 1/0.5 = 2
f(0.25) = 1/0.25 = 4
f(0.001) = 1/0.001 = 1000
f(1.0 * 10^-20) = 1/(1.0 * 10^-20) = 1.0 * 10^20
Basically, the closer x is to 0, the larget f(x) becomes. Therefore, the limit of 1/x as x approaches zero (from the right) is, in fact, infinity. As x approaches zero from the left, f(x) approaches negative infinity.
There is no global limit as x approaches inifinity as the limits from the left and the right are not equivalent.

Meant to say,
\"There is no global limit as x approaches zero as the limits from the left and the right are not equivalent.\"

She may be family, but that doesnt mean I go out of my way to spend time with her (or any of the other batshit crazies I call relatives). Really, it only takes 1 or 2 episodes of one on one with people like this before you seriously think your IQ has dropped when you have contact with them.

<< \"...satan works with the news and media hand in hand, he has alot to do with it...\" >>
Well, maybe at Fox.

I wouldn't try to explain that to her, she would just say it was more work of Satan probably.

Acetv; do you really think that the average fundie, who has trouble with fractions, and who doesn't understand algebra (and I have met many people, not just fundies, like this), can understand the concept of limits?

Just Rick, look at the bright side. At least you don't go to school with people like that every friggin' day.

David - exactly.

Satan is definitely evident in mainstream media. Every time Pat Robertson and Bill O'Reilly open their mouths.
