Quote# 88981

Bring back tea parties, please. Girls getting together to celebrate the girl bond with over-the-top partying and pampering seems so much forced fun and desperate escape. I recently met a middle-aged woman who was going on a cruise with dozen or so other women her age. Mind you, they didn’t represent an organization that was gathering around a cause. I could understand that. They were just having a girl vacation and leaving their families behind. It sounded dreadful. Women aren’t meant to travel in packs.

[later comment]

Yes, it is important for women to socialize with each other and it is good for them to get away from their families if they do it in the right spirit. I wasn’t referring to things like lunches out or baby showers. I’m talking about hedonistic girl gatherings.

My mother never expressed a desire to vacation without her husband or her children. I’m sure she wouldn’t have chosen a trip with twelve friends when we were young. A few friends maybe.

A cruise? Oh no, boating, the epitome of unrestrained hedonism!

Why do you insist on pretending to be a woman?

I can't decide if the subtext here is

"Horrors! Others are enjoying themselves doing something I don't think is fun."

or

"Nobody ever invited me; why did they leave me out?"

So what's the difference between two or three friends and a dozen? It's like you're saying that taking a trip with three friends is female bonding, but get a dozen together and it's ladies' night at the strip club.

And frankly, what business is it of yours what women do when they get together?

Can't you have a tea party at a cruise?

If you organize a gathering on a cruise, with the cause of gathering and having fun, then you'd be an organization gathering around a cause.

Your mother does not represent every woman in the world, stupid. I never expressed a desire for traveling either, but that's because I don't particularly like to travel. But, most women I know do like to travel.

Laura probably leads a boring life.

Why wants she force that on everybody else?

Women aren’t meant to travel in packs.

I've never known women to not travel in packs. In fact, every piece of literature I've read or movie I've watched in the last almost four decades suggests that women do in fact travel in groups.

Nothing wrong with a little self-indulgence and/or some travel. The occasional girl's night out does not make someone a Casey Anthony-geez! You just don't want women to have fun, but guess what? Girls just wanna have fun, and if you don't like it you can pog ma thon!

Honestly, as an adult, I could only see a "family vacation"with little kids as freaking dreadful. As a kid, it's all fun. But as an adult you have to put up with all the planning and work and whining. The women undoubtedly have to put up with a lot of grief and stress from spouse and children.

A lot of women would rather have a cruise or other vacation where they can totally enjoy themselves, horror or horrors. And, hey, if they want to be "hedonistic" then whatever. Women enjoying themselves shouldn't automatically be considered bad, ffs...

"It sounded dreadful. Women aren’t meant to travel in packs."

What the hell are you talking about? Most women don't even go to the bathroom without other women going with them.

If you think there's a difference, maybe you're just not being invited to the right lunches or baby showers.

"My mother never expressed a desire to vacation without her husband or her children."

Let me guess, you were born sometime in the 1940s or 1950s, right?

"I’m sure she wouldn’t have chosen a trip with twelve friends when we were young. A few friends maybe."

What difference does it make if its a "few" friends or 100 friends?

Hedonistic, you say? Hmmm. Where is this cruise again? Can guys come? No pun intended. Hehehe.

Twelve friends. Hmmm, that number rings a bell with me somehow.
Oh, SHIT! You don't suppose they're trying to act like ---Jeezus---

"Bring back tea parties"

I seem to remember in my history classes at school about a certain 'Tea Party' in Boston; a protest against the monopolisation of & tax levied by Britain upon the US. 'No taxation, without representation', and all that jazz.

So you're all for lawlessness; anarchy & chaos eh, Laura? So you'll have nothing against women 'travelling in packs', on pub crawls; even 'Booze Cruises'/'Club 18-30'/'Ibiza Weekends' and marauding 'Hen Parties' abroad, eh...?!

Standing on their own two feet
And ringing on their own bells!'

I'm sure I must have mentioned this by now, but really darling, if you would just stop using spray starch when you ironed your underwear, the world would seem a much nicer place.

My mother never expressed a desire to vacation without her husband or her children.

Your mother isn't the be-all and end-all of American culture, let alone world culture, and neither are you. You must be really miserable and not have been given an option for enjoying life if you so desperately want everyone else to be as miserable as you are.

You're late to the party, Laura. High tea made a big comeback about 7 or 8 years ago. Popular with gays, too.

Women aren’t meant to travel in packs.

They do if they want to avoid being raped by some asshat who thinks women should be at home, barefoot and pregnant.
