Quote# 89289

Don’t know if civil rights are immature, but it is immature to concern yourself with the civil rights of some alien ethnic group. Let them take care of themselves. A mature individual wouldn’t care where the black mob is are sitting – as long as it wasn’t too close to himself. A sign of maturity is to mind your own business. There is nothing more immature than trying to make the world better.

So...fatalism is a sign of maturity? Strange point and new...

I can't help but wonder whether this acceptance over-reach, this view that all one can do is care for oneself and those connected by eros, storge, and occasionally philia, is some sort of Stockholm Syndrome aimed at cosmic recklessness/blindness.

Being a childish, self-centered, short-sighted, ignorant fool is a sign of of maturity?

Not giving a fuck if the world around you goes to hell and cutting yourself off from everyone around you except immediate blood relations are signs of maturity. Who'd-a thunk it?

Enlightened self-interest. Look into it sometime.

Wow.

The very exact opposite of maturity... is maturity.

Now where did I see that before?

Ignorance is strength!
War is peace!
Freedom is slavery!

All hail the IngSoc! >:D

So the world would be better if we didn't try and make it better so we should try to make it better by not trying to make it better though since this would be trying to make it better it would make it worse

I know many people who believe that too. They survive in relative comfort because the "immature" people created a society where the mentally challenged aren't left on their own.

Funny, my Christian parents taught me that maturity was the opposite - including "trying to make the world better." Maturity is being able to look BEYOND yourself. We can't fix everything, but it is not immature to be concerned and get involved if we have the time and resources.

Minding your own business is an entirely different issue, and is valid at times. For example, what others are doing in their bedrooms is not my business to discuss, control, or legislate. But to connect "minding your own business" with the civil rights of others sounds like what the KKK would say as they lynch someone. "Mind your own business, nothing to see here" - really "mind your own business, or we'll get to you next."

Oh My Dog!

I concern myself with the civil rights of others because I like having civil rights myself. If that is immature, send me back to kindergarten.

You know kindergarten, where they teach you how to share and how to get along with others and such.

So has said every authoritarian follower since the Stone Age.

At the very least it's a strong indicator of being a fundie Republican.

You just can't argue with idiots who think it's immature to try to make the world better, but mature, intelligent people let it turn to crap.

"There is nothing more immature than trying to make the world better."

Um... was George Washington immature? Abe Lincoln? Teddy Roosevelt? Lyndon Johnson? Martin Luther King? Were the men on Seal Team 6 immature?

I believe it is immature to complain about people making the world better!

You know, I don't disagree with this. I'm tired of white people insinuating themselves into the civil rights movement, then taking credit for being so "progressive" because they "allow" black people fair treatment in society. The vast majority of white people in this country sat on the sidelines dancing swing and watching "Leave it to Beaver" while my parents fought tooth and nail to be treated as equal citizens. Modern whites have no right to imply that the civil rights movement was in any way a shared victory. They had no part in it.
