Instead, if they packaged their message into a slick media campaign that explains why Western feminism is destructive, while keeping violence to a minimum, they could have gotten a lot more traction in the West.

Actually I believe what he's saying is that if Al-Qaeda focused combatting the "evils" of feminism and chose feminist targets to attack (remember, he said keep violence to a minimum, not eliminate it altogether) then they would have had a larger following in the West, including, presumably, the OP.
