"Just because a prisoner opens the bible for the first time, just probably to show up to get early parole does not mean he believes the book he is staring at."
- And just because a GOP politician includes a few bible quotes in the speech his staff wrote for him does not mean he believes the book he is quoting from. That doesn't stop your lot from nodding your heads and thinking, "He's one of us!"

You can only define a man best thru his deeds, not what he says or said. Evil deeds are done by evil people.
Except, I'm guessing, that this doesn't apply to atheists because they're automatically evil no matter what they do.

How did you know that there are plenty of religious people in prison ? How, by statistics? Statistics do not and can not possibly know, because NO ONE can be inside one's head to know what one truly believes or what one lies about.
Wait, let me fix that for you:
How did you know that the USA is a Christian country? How, by statistics? Statistics do not and can not possibly know, because NO ONE can be inside one's head to know what one truly believes or what one lies about.
or:
How did you know that the Republican Party is led by Christian values? How, by statistics? Statistics do not and can not possibly know, because NO ONE can be inside one's head to know what one truly believes or what one lies about.
Eat your own words, dumbass.

a peron who claims to be a christian is a christian until the church starts issuing membership cards. I wait eagerly for Catholics, eastern orthodox ,baptist, luthern, Mormons and the snake handlers to agree on one interpretation of Gods will.
What do I think of a married christian who leads a very large congregation yet who is alledged to indulge in homesexual acts with his drug dealer prostitute boyfriend ?

The GAO can give statistics on that. Evil deeds done by evil people? What if they are doing it because of the Bible? If you read it, you'd know it says to kill unbelievers and homosexuals, etc.

"Statistics do not and can not possibly know, because NO ONE can be inside one's head to know what one truly believes or what one lies about."
But in spite of this, you present statistic "proving" gays die at age 41, and liberals are more likely to be suicidal drug addict serial killers.
"This another flaw that you are displaying in public, no different than the one which you think "trusting" is "knowing"."

Fair enough. Then you can no longer use "Stalin was an atheist" as an argument. After all, you can't get inside his head and he might have been lying. Or what about the Muslim terrorists? Maybe they're not actually Muslim. Oh, but that's different isn't it? That doesn't make YOUR group look bad so it's okay to take their word for it, right?

"How did you know that there are plenty of religious people in prison ?"
Equally, I guess, we don't know there are plenty of religious people
out of prison. Maybe there are only a couple of dozen Christians in the whole country, plus a hell of a lot of pretenders.
That'd certainly help reconcile this...
...with this...
Matthew 6:5 - "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others."

We went through this no true Scotsman nonsense with Anders Breivik.
Not only do religious people do evil things, but the whole narrative of the Abrahamic religions, and particularly Christianity, which is one of sin and redemption, encourages the perhaps unconscious acting-out of that archetype. Watch the Christian channels and you'll come across some hellfire preacher who talks passionately about how he used to drink, smoke, do drugs, how he got in trouble with the police. But now he's saved.
His former iniquities are the shade which make the sunshine of his salvation all the brighter. There are many, many people who have followed the trajectory of this narrative, even to the point of last-minute repentance before the electric chair. It's one of the dark sides of the psychology of Christianity.

If a person claims to be Christian (or Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist, etc. etc.), why should I not believe them? Presumably they know what's going on inside their own heads.
If you want to claim they're all lying, present your evidence. So far all you have is, "I know better than the so-called statistics what religion convicts follow, because I'm right and everyone else is wrong."
