Quote# 89721

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for
Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,
blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos
and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs,
alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in
a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your
"home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be
inventoried.
If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your
own place.

In addition, you will either present a
check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of
trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.
We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of
the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before
you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem,"
consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for
doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least
attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is
correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will
voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t
welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Slavery is freedom!

Filin De Blanc

So your solution to people being unable to get jobs is basically "yell at them really hard to get a job".

Prager

I'm sure g.i.g would play a different tune if he were ever on the receiving end of any of this.

9/24/2012 3:45:45 AM

You know, I can actually agree with some of this...
The bits about food stamps only getting you basic neccessities and the government finding a job for you...
Forcing someone to use birth control (I thought contraceptives were evil tools of Satan?), selling off their possessions and not letting them vote? That goes WAAAAY too far.

So if you ever lose your job and your home, and need government assistance to help you get back on your feet, you'll gladly submit to these rules, right? Right?

Didn't think so.

Titania

@1450594 You seem to have at list sipped the same Kool-Aid as the OP. The "bare necessities" as outline by the OP are hardly nutritious, sustaining maybe, but certainly nothing to thrive on. It only perpetuates the vicious cycle of poverty. Show a little empathy, please.

9/24/2012 4:10:44 AM

whatever

"If you want to vote, then get a job."

So, in order to make this program complete and workable, how to you plan to create these jobs? If there is high unemployment in any specific area, what do you feel needs to be done in those areas to remedy this situation? And why do you think the government hasn't already done something along those lines?

Ever visited the UK? There are close to 3 million unemployed in the UK at present, same as there were under Thatcher in the 1980s.

I wouldn't put you in charge of the dog pound.

These people want to limit government ladies and gentlemen.

Why is it always the ones screaming the loudest about government intrusion into their private lives who fantasize about using that same government as a blunt instrument of revenge against all the people they hate?

Double post, y'all.

You're just oozing love and compassion, aren't you dearie.

So, you have to have a job to vote? So, no hosewives can vote in your society, right, nor can people who live off inherited fortunes. Good to know...

Doubting Thomas

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE!

Yes, by all means let's return to a time when only white male landowners were allowed to vote. Because we all know that they'll represent everyone's interests and not just their own.

You'll just create a sub-culture of perennially unemployed alcoholics, drug-addicts, and rioters. Learn some compassion and some empathy, you massive fascist.

"Put me in charge of food stamps."

Watch the rate of malnutrition rise.

"Put me in charge of Medicaid."

Watch the death rate rise.

"Put me in charge of government housing."

Watch homelessness rise.

" If you want our money, accept our rules.."

It's long past time we followed this policy on you welfare consuming red states.

"In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job."

Ah yes, good old indentured servitude. That's one way of addressing the unemployment problem.

Answer me this - if there's work to be done, why isn't someone being paid the prevailing wage to do it? Actually, I think we know the answer already - wages cost money, whereas if it's made a condition of some poor sod's meagre welfare benefits, it is effectively free labour.

This moron apparently doesn't even comprehend that voting is by definition an expression of interest, and therefore a conflict of interest can't exist. You are supposed to vote for what you want.

Conflicts of interest only arise when a neutral party is supposed render a judgment on an issue, yet the can gain personal benefit from making a certain decision and are therefore not neutral.

Neutrality is not a prerequisite for voting!

Most people who receive government assistance already have jobs but said jobs don't provide for the complete welfare of their children. A great many others simply got sick and lost their jobs and health benefits.

In my case I got sick, as a direct result of my job, three years before I retired. I lost everything I had worked for and now depend on Social Security and Medicare. Go fuck yourself, dumb cracker, I paid for my SS and Medicare with toil, sweat, blood, and treasure.

9/24/2012 5:56:25 AM

Reynardine

And you need to lose your job. Hunger and humiliation just might do you good.

9/24/2012 6:09:27 AM

Unbeliever

It will sound unpopular, but I agree with #1450594 - some of this makes sense. Food stamps are to be used just for the basics - not for fancy meat ( I saw that happening a few times ). The job plan - with government organizing a workforce to work on infrastructural projects - was tried and proven to work during the Great Recession in the US ( and other countries ).

@ Titania:
> Show a little empathy, please.

Its my tax money we're talking about. I would rather put them towards education and infrastructure then social care.

@1450680: "Food stamps are to be used just for the basics - not for fancy meat"

As someone who spent six years on government assistance when I was a kid, I can tell you right now that you sound like a clueless individual who has never to deal with the reality of trying to survive on food stamps. My mother became disabled thanks to a medical condition that has crippled her. When my father became terminally ill, he not only lost his business but his self-employed health insurance became terminated using some bogus loophole. Thus our family lost everything and I mean everything: the car, truck, house, life savings kind of everything.

You talk as if people live it up like kings getting foodstamps. It's fucking ridiculous. You have any idea how many times I had to go to bed hungry as a kid? They don't give people enough food stamps to have them live on champagne and lobster. I think part of the reason I am overweight now is because of the food insecurity I endured as a kid.

Fuck you and all the people like you who don't give two shits about the welfare of others. Your kind is what makes this world a shitty place.
