I tell you what, Richard gave a two word axiom that we ought to emblazon on everything we have: liberalism kills.
Liberalism kills, whether it's in the family; whether it's in a university; whether it's in education; whether it's in business; whether it's in government, and especially in denominations, liberalism kills.
That's a great axiom to remember is liberalism kills.

liberalism kills?
How come David Barton has not been liberalised to death a long time ago?
The deliberate changing of the meaning of words is a fundie ploy. As a European I do not fall for this kind of trick to demonise a word's meaning, and thereby seek to annihilate an opponent.
Repeat 1000 trillion timex, David, " 'Liberal' is good!"
BTW, Liberal comes from the original Latin 'liber', meaning 'free', 'democratic'. The opposite was 'servitus' = enslavement.
Enslavement of the mind is even worse than that of the body.
For a short moment, I was wondering what the deal was. And then, I remembered liberalism has a different sense in Europe (where it means capitalism, in which case, such claims can be made, even though their substantation might prove a bit more challenging) and the USA (where it is a buzz word mixing a lot of things together).

The German Freethinkers League
('Deutsche Freidenkerbund') was an
organisation founded in 1881 by the
philosopher, physiologist and physician
Ludwig Büchner. Its aim was to provide
a public meeting-ground and forum for
materialist and atheist thinkers in Germany.
The first of such organisations to be
founded in that country, the German
Freethinkers League had by 1930 a
membership numbering around 500,000.
The League was closed down, however,
in the Spring of 1933 when Hitler
outlawed all atheistic and freethinking
groups in Germany. 'Freethinkers Hall',
the national headquarters of the League,
was then converted to a bureau advising
to the public in church matters.
Among its Chairmen was Max Sievers,
who was beheaded at the guillotine by the Nazis in 1944.
What about:
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
WAR IS PEACE
The book those slogans came from was intended to be a warning, not a blueprint.
@ Pule Thamex
and yet...and yet... it still lives in the person of DB and others of that persuasion.
The wonder is that these people perversely use all the benefits brought by the advance of science, and still see no dichotomy, even when it bites them in the bum. Just consider that science brought us tamed electricity and all that therefrom derives: phones, radio & TV, light, computers, kettles, coffee machines, heating, doorbells. cookers, microwaves, all kinds of health machines (C-Ray, CAT-Scan etc). And I jist scratch the surface. This raises a thought. Would ECT help these poor benighted people who cannot comprehend the basic denial of all that makes life more comfortable, longer and more agreeable than that in the most advanced of the ancient civilisations. To avoid the inherent hypocrisy in their position, David & Co should avoid the use of all of these things. No?
Yes David... and that Liberal group of colonies that rebelled against the Conservative country that owned them obviously is the worst result of Liberalism...
So, um... why are you so anti-American?
A Liberal State of Mind gives a lot more freedom.
Also, did I read a 40K quote in the comments? I know the first two are at least maxims in the Imperium. IMPERIUM.
Maybe this guy wants to be the God Emperor?
Other liberals play; MANOWAR KILLS!
That said Mr. Barton, I'm quite liberal & I would be glad to liberate you from the burden of living.
Have a nice day.
I can confirm this. I'm a liberal, and I've been dead since 2007 :)

Huh? You seem to be mixing 'liberalism' with 'neoliberalism'... and even neoliberalism is not a synonym for capitalism. I live in Europe btw.
@ VioletBeauregarde:
"Jesus was liberal. You lose! Good day, sir!"
He also died violently and painfully when he was just over 30! Therefore, it reinforces the OP's point >:D
Liberalism didn't bring Islam or Christianity nor had them combine with politics. Liberalism isn't out there blowing up abortion clinics.
Nor did conservatism.
They are ideals David. Nothing more and nothing less. It's no wonder you're not taken seriously by real historians and political analysts.
Confused?
