Quote# 89911

I get polled all the time, and I do get frustrated sometimes because the polls are many times worded to achieve a desired result.

Here is a typical example:

during bush’s term in office I would often get polled about the Iraq war.

The question usually went something like “do you approve or disapprove of President Bush’s handling of the Iraq war”

UGH!!

That is a freaking BOGUS poll! because it’s rigged! If I answer truefully that I don’t approve of Bush’s handling of the war, my answer will get lumped together with all the lib answers and be trumpted from the rooftops as proof we should end the war in Iraq!

When NOTHING could be further from the truth. I didn’t approve because I wanted him to nuke the SOB’s back into the stone age !!!! and thought we had no business putting soldiers in harms way, when we could kill them by the millions from 1,000 miles away or 30,000 feet with no risk.

So I was forced to lie and said I approved when I didn’t

Polls are written for people with a 3rd grade education. That's why, when you are asked if you "approve of Pres. Obama's handling of environmental issues," you check yes, because your other choice is usually "drill, baby, drill."

*snicker*

You call THAT question a poll "worded to achieve a desired result"?!

Pah. Rank amateur, at best. I've gotten polls worded like this:

"If we told you that incumbent Joe Smith sacrifices babies to Satan and spends your hard-earned tax dollars on solid gold golf clubs, would that make you more likely, less likely, or just as likely to vote for BOB JONES!, who is running for congress in your district in the next election and says he will find a cure for cancer and achieve world peace?"

The question itself is pretty straightforward. Do you approve or disapprove of Bush's handling of the war? What people infer from the data is not the fault of the question being misleading.

I guess they never thought they needed an "I'm batshit insane and think we should kill everyone in the middle east" category.

@TheReasonator:
I've read similar things on Facebook from a handful of my so-called "friends," like "Let's just destroy Middle Eastern Country X," or "Wipe them out." Keep in mind, I don't usually check on my Facebook friends that often, nor do I really talk to them. Besides, I have a better real friend than they could ever be.

You're right! Those pollsters are obviously biased against genocidal psychopaths.

Or maybe they just didn't think anyone honestly would espouse such horrible beliefs (they obviously have never browsed this site).

You know, you could make a legitimate point about this, if you didn't want to cause genocide to innocent Middle Easterns.

May teh Lohd have mercy on my soul for saying it, but in this case a freeper is making a good point.

Disapproval of a president's handling of a war could well be because it wasn't vicious or indiscriminate enough.

Polls should reflect that.

The pollsters had to start with some assumption that you had two or three working brain cells.

They couldn't spend all their time laying groundwork, like asking first if you were stupid and uninformed enough to believe Iraq had anything to do with 9/11, or had threatened us in the first place.

Damn you and your straight-forward, non-slanted, unbiased questions!!! How am I supposed to promote my preconceived notions if you're making me be honest?
