Depends on how you look at it. If he's saying that most white people are directly making a buck off the back a black person then that would not be true. The reverse isn't true either. However, being white IS a large benefit in most elements of Western society. How many cops will pull you over if you're white and driving a nice vehicle? How many employers will turn you down for having a "white-sounding" name or voice? How many schools will turn you down for having a B- average and a "white" name? How many people will cross the sidewalk or call the cops on you if they see you walking around in their neighborhood if you're an unfamiliar white person? How many banks will turn you down for a loan based on thinking you won't be able to keep up because you're white? Not many.

He should read, "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" by Peggy McIntosh.

BS on all accounts. Most black Americans DO NOT live on welfare. This just shows how little contact the average white conservative has with black people that they think most black people live below the poverty line. Aside from that black people are not tax-exempt, and most of the minority of black people on welfare have jobs and have to pay taxes like everyone else.

In contrast a disproportionately high number of whites live on Social Security (a program far more expensive than all "welfare" programs combined). Blacks and other minorities are more likely to be turned down for collecting Social Security when they get old:

Guess who pays for SS? Working young people. So what about me and other working young black men who are paying the FICA tax for a program we're less likely to benefit from?

Again, I love how he believes most black people are "not productive". On average blacks get paid less for the same jobs than whites and blacks are more likely than whites to work more than one job to pay bills:

Not to mention before the 1890s most of the South's economy (and much of the North's economy) was based on produce from slave labor or black industrial labor. Blacks and Asians were the main ones who built the country's railroads and blacks and Hispanics were the main ones who built most of the country's highways.

3/4 of black Americans are not poor. So what about all the working class voters not on welfare and all the middle class and wealthy black people who voted for Obama? @Vox: I'm not really feeling that graphic. I think the data needs to take into account population density somehow. Like we still gotta clean up after a tornado whether there's 10 of us or 10,000, but obv. 10 people have to do way more work per person. It seems reasonable to spend a bit more per capita in less dense areas.

@anon - True, but most of the states highlighted are pretty densely populated. New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota and New Hampshire are the only states that are sparsely populated. Texas has one of the largest populations of any state in the Union. Georgia is also very densely populated for a state its size. It's roughly half the size of New Mexico but has like 10x as many people as New Mexico.

Most black people I know work DAMNED hard for their money, frequently in menial jobs. Sure, there are some slackards who "work the system", but most do not.

The black community has some serious problems, as do all others. Chief among them is the lack of decent schooling. Next is the high divorce rate.

However, the same is true of very large segments of the Caucasian community. We live in tough times, all of us.
