"One of the rules that he [St. Paul] promulgated concerned women and their role in the church. He recognized that if given free rein, women would begin to place themselves in positions of authority, where they would inevitably cause trouble for the early Christians."

Filin De Blanc
Price is bitter that women are allowed to do stuff because they're better at it than he is part 1459.
10/12/2012 6:07:24 AM
I can only imagine what kind of a lonely bitter person WFP is. Part of me is actually starting to feel sorry for him.

The Crimson Ghost
Does this boy ever stop whining?
Good to know that us atheist women don't even register on his radar.
Fuck Paul, fuck Timothy & fuck you Price.
10/12/2012 6:11:29 AM
Paul of Tarsus was an asshole. So are you.
10/12/2012 6:21:48 AM
Maybe the problem is with Christianity. I struggle with where I fit in spiritually. There is a lot I like about the Episcopal church, but I'm constantly reminded of all the misogyny inherent in Christianity and wonder why I try to fit in in a church....

"One of the rules that he [St. Paul] promulgated concerned women and their role in the church"
Meanwhile, in the 21st Century, there are very liberal
Reform Judaism synagogues with female
rabbis. The Church of England has female
vicars & bishops. Nope. The world hasn't ceased to exist as a result of such reforms.
"He recognized that if given free rein, women would begin to place themselves in positions of authority, where they would inevitably cause trouble for the early Christians
And not just for the early
ones, neither; Romans 13:1-5 ring any bells...?:
'if given free rein, women would begin to place themselves in positions of authority, where they would inevitably cause trouble for the early Christians'? Stop it, you're turnimg me on.
Oh, and, going by what I saw on a report BBC News recently, that the Democrats were preparing for Hillary Clinton to run as president in 2016...:
' [/Spartan Laconic Wit]
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
10/12/2012 7:09:14 AM
This is one of the reasons why I'm not a Christian.
10/12/2012 7:18:47 AM
What's ironic about this statement is that before it was adopted as the official state religion of the Roman empire, Christianity was primarily seen as a women's religion as it focused on peace, love and kindness and not the more martial elements most Roman men looked for in a good religion. It's entirely possible that without women carrying the torch for early Christianity within the Roman empire that it would have died out there entirely and thus never have become the state religion and thus never have become the dominant religion of the western world for a couple thousand years.

"Girls have cooties" award, anyone?
Seriously, it's a horrible injustice when a vagina and uterus are the only things holding an otherwise qualified person from a position of authority!
10/12/2012 7:38:13 AM
There's this theory that Paul was a self-hating homosexual. You could look it up...
but I'd rather see you run the gauntlet between Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer, Ann Coulter, Sharon Angle, Christine O'Donnell, and Cindy Jacobs with shotguns. And if there's a little problem with crossfire, that's ok with me.
10/12/2012 9:16:00 AM
"One of the rules that he [St. Paul] promulgated "
Yeah, and Jesus said nothing about it... almost like Paul added to the Bible and made up rules that Jesus had nothing to do with.
All aboard the Paulianity train!! *toot toot*
10/12/2012 9:31:36 AM
According to scholars, Paul most likely didn't write Timothy.
If one reads the stuff scholars have confirmed were really written by Paul, Paul actually comes across as a pretty reasonable guy for the most part.
Letters Paul Really Wrote: Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, 1 Thessalonians, Philemon, Phillipians.
...and that's it.
The other stuff is either spurious or forgeries.
Those few verses in 1 Corinthians, the ones about women keeping silent in Church, were most likely added after the fact. Think about it, he goes on and on about women prophesying at Church & even references and greets BY NAME several female ministers, deacons & APOSTLES (basically bishops). It wouldn't make sense for him to spew this sexist BS about women being silent & submissive.
That said, Jesus still trumps Paul & Paul's letters were just that...LETTERS! To treat personal correspondences as infallible Word Of Godde is silly. It's like you writing to your Grandma & some guys using it as scripture. Paul's stuff can best be seen as advice.
Anyway. Christianity was originally meant as a peaceful force of charity, egalitarianism, social justice & good, but over time, Post-Constantine, it became a war-mongering, Kyriarchal institution of oppression.
W.F. Price represents Oppressive Institutional Christianity while Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori, Bishop Shelby Spong, Bishop Gene Robinson, Fr. Mychal Judge, The MCC, etc. represent the spirit of the original.
To exclude someone because they have a vagina is stupid and irrational. W.F. Price & his ilk are pond scum.
10/12/2012 10:09:17 AM
As someone who was just recently denied a management position because I have a vagina, fuck you.
With a cactus.
10/12/2012 10:14:28 AM
W.F. is still having trouble meeting the right lady then...
It's a long shot, but try not being a bitter, whining, mythology obsessed loser, and the right lady may come along eventually...
10/12/2012 10:28:25 AM
And please tell me why any thinking woman would want to join your misogynistic religion again?
10/12/2012 10:35:10 AM
"Ah, feel that Christian love you little whore!"
10/12/2012 11:22:55 AM
The idea that no woman has anything to teach a man, is just one more reason to ignore the Bible.
P.S. "Saint" Paul was a misogynistic, liar. Not the kind of model one should emulate.
10/12/2012 11:48:55 AM
Would help stop makign contradiction with Pauls major exclamation of "There is no slave or free, no woman or man..." Yada yada. can't remember the exact verse, but I know it's around. It's like, he makes this in one of his early letters, while Timothy is written by supposedly Paul to an escaped Slave Timothy saying he should go back into slavery and women should submit. This...
I know the exploration of Paul's letters really what lead me to my divide over the church. It's clearly contradictory and based on the idea that it's trying to appeal to the masculine, land owning, slave based Roman empire instead of its own egalatarian, freedom loving, social justice based roots. Yet nobody can see that there is a HUGE ISSUE with following a model of a man like that. If some was written latter by another man and some was rewritten, would make Saint Paul look less of a sell out to try to appeal to the Roman Empire, but whoever was using his name was a HUGE one.
10/12/2012 11:57:22 AM
Always bear in mind that Paul was a psychotic little turd.
10/12/2012 1:36:39 PM
Just get some therapy already. Seriously.
10/12/2012 2:01:56 PM
Fuck "Paul", Jesus was fine with women teaching.
10/12/2012 2:32:03 PM
How Bible God messes with peoples' minds when they show a fear of women. Or how nothing can drive you insane when you regard it too closely.
10/12/2012 3:09:03 PM
Two points. First, Paul always struck me as a bit of a dickhead and scholars generally agree that he didn't author 1 or 2 Timothy anyway.
10/12/2012 3:56:06 PM
I have found men ever so much more 'gossipy' then women. Also, Paul was a misogynist, who thought women were beneath contempt. Especially when they can and did more than he did. You using his as your shining example as to how to treat women shows you're of the same ilk.
