@Horsefeathers

I don't think Jesus would want that church part, actually.

@1459451 - nice generalization, asshole. Maybe you need to get to know a few more Americans before you paint us all with your broad brush.

So, Kathy, why don't you go on welfare and live the high life? What's stopping you?

Orwell would be very proud of Kathy's way of thinking.

Yeah, everything Jesus said is the truth except when you wish he'd said something else.

Maybe we shouldnt just let anyone interpert a many times translated 2000 year old book.

Industralized poor live under the spectre of debt and a government that is usually trying to screw them out of rights. They are only fat because the only food they can buy is not nutrious and fattening. none suffer from caloric starvation, but most suffer from some form of malnutrition.

And thats just talking on poverty in wealthy nations.

Also, jesus said nothing on concerning yourself with what the poor do with your money. Stop being an entitled wasp.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin. Therefore we ought to get them mooching flowers to work instead of sitting around being all entitled to Solomon's robes.

Bahahahahahaha!! This isn't even wrong! This is on a separate plane of reality!

The ways in which the wealthy have power and luxury nowadays are impossible to concieve, even by them.

Not all of them are moral degenerates, though. Just most of them.

Oh really? Then what the fuck are the actual 'rich'?

When you fuse Ayn Rand with Christianity...

You get the extreme Christian right.

Scary.

"Oh, but keep giving us your money."

Why must theists project so much?

"Gluttonous, slothful, irresponsible and entitled"

How right you are:

And that's the problem. In more ways than one.

I think you have mistaken Supply Side Jesus for the biblical one. Don't worry, it's a common mistake these days.

When you say Jesus, do you mean the guy that hang out with poor "sinners," drove salesmen out of a temple with a whip, and told everyone to love your neighbor and pay your taxes?

Cause I don't think we're thinking of the same Jesus.

Fundyspeak: Where words mean the opposite of what reality says.

No, The "rich" whom Jesus was talking about were selfish, arrogant people just like you. I don't think he would be all that impressed with your lack of compassion and judgmental attitude.

Yes, because the poor totally evades taxes by stashing their money in overseas bank accounts while sipping mimosas on one of their many yachts or personal jet planes with hired help waiting on them on hand and foot. Yea, they are so poor.

I just went to that link and spotted this masterpiece of what-the-fuckery:

"You might have noticed that today’s “poor” aren’t exactly the humble, wholesome, good-hearted types Charles Dickens championed, either.

(Back when “living” conditions in Victorian London were unspeakably appalling, Jack the Ripper was practically doing those women a favor…)"

I must be one of those "rich" Jesus warned us about, because I wouldn't be thanking Jack the Ripper if I were one of his victims.

You know, I'm not much for the Fundie conversion stuff, but if they at least lived the way their own goddamn book -said- I'd at least would have respect for them about that.

It is not even as if the Bible is at all unclear about this stuff. Jesus has a lesson about this exact problem, before you go blaming others, look if you yourself are prejudiced. Not to mention, lots of stuff about helping the poor and the rich not getting to Heaven....

So, yeah, if following the teachings of your own religion is making you uncomfortable enough to twist the meaning of the text into this? You need to look into yourself a bit.
