OH jeez... nobody's saying that conservative kids can't hate people, they're just saying they can't act on it. And educating kids about the truth of homosexuality, that it isn't necessarily immoral, unnatural, or unhealthy, will go a long way to wiping these prejudices out.

Immoral: Prove it. And the bible doesn't count, because not everyone follows it and the society you live in certainly doesn't either.
Unnatural: Prove it. And even if it were, what then? Assuming that just because something is natural is good or moral is a fallacy. Ergo, if something is unnatural it does not mean it is immoral.
Unhealthy: Prove it. There is a greater argument for this, admittedly. Anal sex can cause tissue damage, for instance. Though even then, Anal sex does not equate to homosexuality... though they can go hand in hand. As for HIV... pretty much any form of sex can spread HIV.

Turns out, nope on both counts. Humans do plenty of unnatural and unhealthy things, being part of the spectrum is neither.
As for morals, well now that is a religious conversation. My particular religion (none) says that homosexuality is not immoral and being protected by Freedom of Religion, schools need to stay neutral on moral issues. As for humiliating anyone, I'm in favor of anti-bully campaigns and against schools getting overly involved with the media.

Were I outed as an atheist, I'd keep calm and carry on. My primary worry would be the random yahoos who might harass me, vandalize my place of residence (which technically I don't own) or physically assault me ... or, given that I live in the Bible Belt, the potential employers, law enforcement officials, and other people with power who could make my life miserable. (Illegally, of course, but when so many self-professed conservative Christians hold office around here, how far will I have to reach for actual justice?)
Maybe I'm paranoid, but being laughed at would be the least of my worries.

To be fair, I misread "ethic" as "ethnic," and I posted this. There's the off chance it's a typo, but I doubt it. The similarity to "ethnic cleansing" still makes it rather charged.
