So?

Our school systems have spent the last few decades teaching us that we're nothing more than animals. So why should people and the press get upset when people act like animals? People are behaving in the manner that we've permitted the culture to tout--that we're just animals anyway. They should rejoice their classroom lectures have stuck!

You see-it's much, much better taking out the moral standards outlined and dictated by a Holy God from schools. Having kids shoot at each other or even massacre kids at school--or promoting perverted sexual behavior is much better and much more contributing to a solid society. That's why there's no decay in our cities, countries and why we have full jail cells--it's what the animals do.

And since Darwin was "right"...so why would I get in trouble for whacking my neighbors--since they compete for the same resources as I? Isn't that part of their social Darwinism mantra? Survival of the fittest? Funny--they want you to believe you're animals but get twisted out of shape when people act like animals. How inconsistent and shallow.

I might even begin to buy this load of crap if the Bible wasn't the most violent book I've ever read (and I've read American Psycho).

You don't want to raise violent children? How about you don't shove a book down their throats from birth that glamorizes sacrifice, virgin rape, and slaughter?

No, it isn't inconsistent or hollow. Do you see dogs acting like cats? Do you see horses acting like fish? No. Dogs act like dogs, cats like cats, horses like horses, and fish like fish. Likewise, humans should act like humans. And humans have a conscience that is fully capable of understanding why you don't just go up to a random person and whack them, or why you shouldn't murder people.

Actually, when they grow up together, cats act rather more doggy, and dogs get a bit more catty. I had a Chow brought up by cats, and she acted rather feline, at least when not being ursine. Then she brought up a kitten who liked to wrestle and who jumped in the window and growled when a strange car pulled up.

@Reynardine:

Well, there are always exceptions. Just like the fundies that screech like baboons, despite being humans.

Oh fucking shit. This one's from my school.

No, you see, YOU'RE the one with the all-emcompassing dogma that you live your life by. We, on the other hand, are able to compartmentalize our worldview enough to understand that "life evolved from a common ancestor" and "eating babies is wrong" are quite compatible.

"Our school systems have spent the last few decades teaching us that we're nothing more than animals. So why should people and the press get upset when people act like animals?"

Don't you guys ever update your rhetoric? You've been saying this same fucking thing since the 1860s.

Aside from that, if humans aren't animals then what are we? Plants? Rocks perhaps? Maybe we're insects. After all, the Wholly Babble seems to think there are four legged insects so perhaps it confused two of our appendages for legs and thus we actually are all gigantic four legged insects.

"You see-it's much, much better taking out the moral standards outlined and dictated by a Holy God from schools. Having kids shoot at each other or even massacre kids at school--or promoting perverted sexual behavior is much better and much more contributing to a solid society."

Your "moral standards" that your "Holy God" provides are barbaric. You'd know this if you had ever actually read your Wholly Babble rather than just carrying around with you to feel superior to everyone else.

"And since Darwin was 'right'...so why would I get in trouble for whacking my neighbors--since they compete for the same resources as I? Isn't that part of their social Darwinism mantra? Survival of the fittest? "

That's not what survival of the fittest means, and "social Darwinism" is not evolution.

Hey there, ChalSomebody! I'm a WKU grad too! And while there are plenty of creationist yahoos stumbling around the Hill, there's lots of sensible people too. I've still got a bunch of friends there who are religious skeptics and scientifically-minded. I talked to the head biology prof at WKU about three years ago, and he said he rarely gets students denouncing evolution. He does, however, get loads who simply don't know anything about it, thanks to Kentucky high schools' fear of antagonizing the crazies on local school boards.

Schools may teach that humans are animals, and should teach that humans are apes and mammals.

"Just animals" implies something else which is not supported by the conduct of most animals.

If you attribute shootings to the failure of schools to impart moral guidance, are you suggesting that families and schools are simply not up to the job?

Aww, you think your backwards religion is responsible for modern society.

I have difficulty recalling the last time I heard about a flock of sheep going apeshit and randomly murdering cows. Or cows hunting down and flattening wolves pre-emptively. Or wolves hunting prey animals to extintion. Or any pack/herd animal killing their packmates over trivial issues.

For animals, they sure don't behave like you say animals should.

And seriously, social darwinism? That's kind of like the opposite of natural interaction and selection. Get your shit straight.

Honestly don't understand how so many people relate being an animal with acting like a monster...

Social Darwinism is not evolution!

Survival of the fittest does not mean what idiots like you think it means.

Please go away and leave the planet to reasonable people.

"Our school systems have spent the last few decades teaching us that we're nothing more than animals. So why should people and the press get upset when people act like animals?"

because we're also nothing more than a collection of chemicals.

So we're permitted to react.

"acting like animals". Animals don't "act" like anything. They just follow their natural instincts. We humans have culture, which puts a check on our impulses, but in any case, they exist and there is nothing wrong or shameful about them.
Animals don't, for instance, randomly destroy members of their own species for no reason. Animals compete, but they also co-operate. They live in social groups.
You will not get any competitive advantage by killing your neighbours. You will simply go to jail. You will not thereby have more of a chance to pass on your genes.
No scientist is claiming that human culture and socialisation is not a factor. Merely that we are a form of animal life. That has no implications about violent behaviour, at least not in your favour, because the evidence points to humans being, relative to other species, being an exceptionally violent animal.

Schools teach us (or they should) that we're part of nature like everything else.

"social Darwinism" has nothing to do with evolution. Actually, none of this has anything to do with evolution, you're just looking for an excuse to be an asshole.

We're nothing more or LESS than animals, dumbass.

Homo Sapiens is the only animal shooting each other, as far as I know.
H S is also the only animal using jails.
H S is NOT the only animal showing homosexual tendencies, however. Nobody is promoting homosexuality, stupid. We're just saying it's no big deal; mind your own business.

Darwin wasn't writing laws on how to behave, he was describing a process in nature he could observe. Survival of the most adaptable species, stupid.

Except that's not how it goes at all, you fuckwit.

And your motive seems to be "let terrible things happen, then reap the benefits". Go fuck yourself.
