"The radical pro-life side says The Bible says "thou shalt not kill" so it means abortion should always be illegal."
Leviticus 17:11 my Bible-ignorant friend.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
See that bold part? Even your Wholly Babble says that a tiny clump of cells isn't alive. At best you could Biblically claim it was "alive" around week 7 when, according to Wikipedia, "rudimentary blood moves through primitive vessels connecting to the yolk sac and chorionic membranes." However, true red blood cells don't show up until weeks 10 - 12 of the pregnancy.
"Yet most of us recognize that killing in a just war, the death penalty, and killing animals for food or what ever reason is not covered by that passage."
Mostly because the Commandment doesn't read "thou shalt not kill". The original untranslated meaning, as I understand it, is closer to "thou shalt not murder". Of course you wouldn't know that.
"I am pro-life but I also think that the pro-life position should be enforced the way it is in the Bible. In the Bible it says that if you cause a woman to be stillborn (i.e. perform an abortion) you pay a fine to the baby's father."
Exodus 21:22-25 (which I assume is what you're getting at but don't actually know your Bible well enough to say so) says that if a woman "with child" is caused to give birth prematurely but no harm comes to the child, then a fine is imposed which is set by the father and the judges. If the child dies, then the penalty is the typical "eye for an eye" Bible brutality.
Since a woman cannot give birth to a clump of cells in the first place, I'm not sure why you think this is relevant.
