Quote# 9053

If one is 100% raw [eating raw foods] and the female body has purified itself enough, there is no need to menstruate.

I think I hear hundreds of tiny spinal fractures that will ultimately lead to a hump at 45.

What the hell is this guy smoking?

I think the scientific term for that is \"Dangerously malnourished\"

Wow, it's the vegan version of the mom from Carrie.

@CousinTed: I was thinking the same thing.

\"...there is no need to menstruate.\"

So... it's a voluntary thing now?

Why does every knob and his mother think he can just spew anything out without any basis in reality and proclaim it truth?? Haven't these retards heard of research and empirical evidence? Fuck, i'm losing faith in mankind quickly.

A non christian-republican-NRA member post.

How refreshing.

Alternative Medicine Award!!!

This one is male, right? Because I can't think of many girls who would believe it's a voluntary thing or the result of an unpure body.

>This one is male, right?

Nope. Her name is Therese.

Well, I suppose the positive side is she won't be contributing her genes to the next generation.

Further, if you quit eating altogether your body will reach such a transcendent state of purity that your heart will free itself of its need to pump blood!

Yeah, in a couple of years this chick will score herself a Darwin Award.

So, are there any cultures that do a 100% raw food vegan diet like these people do? For all they talk about natural, I don't think it's very natural for humans.

And I always thought that ceassation of menses should only occur in two circumstances: pregnancy and post-menopause. Any other reason is an idication of poor health.

L101 also seems to have some sort of weird fear of going to the doctor.

I can't imagine that its healthy not to menstuate.

However, I'll just add that girlfriend Yahweh and another FSTDT moderator are vegans (not of the raw food type) and say they don't experience menstrual cramps as severely. Its not due to malnutrition, its seems to have something to do with the estrogen content of low-fat foods. See http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0820/is_2000_May/ai_61616825#continue

This really reminds me of that scene in Carrie where the mom finds out Carrie has had her first period and tells her that if she hadn't been a sinner she wouldn't have bled or something or other.

Either way, I'm all for a stave-off-menstruation thing. I'm so bad at remembering to take pills on time.

@Tara: If \"natural\" means \"in accordance with the conditions we've evolved in for most of the last several million years\", a such diet is plainly un-natural.

1/16/2006 9:42:37 AM

Wow, just ka-wow.

Uh my dear, menstruation is a perfectly NATURAL and HEALTHY and TOTALLY PURE THING.

I don't think humans were capable of being truly Healthy vegetarians until roughly around 300 years ago, when all the nutritional vegatable substitutes for meat were finally collected from all over the world.

I'm a low-carber myself, and I love my veggies:-)!I stay away from grains, and most processed foods.I eat lots of Berries and Kiwifruits MMMH!(Sprinkle some black pepper on them, delicious!)

Considering this was/is the \"Natural\" diet humans enjoyed until the Agricultural Era and it's subsequent malnurishment and creation of impoverishment and enrichment.

I think true Vegans are to be admired.
Lord knows, I gotta have my steak and lamb.I can do without the potato,Cauliflower with cheese tastes better anyways;-)

I propose creating the \"What Sound Does A Duck Make?\" Award, because this is pure quackery -- and beyond.

ah... nothing like some poor scared kid who can't fathom her own body and hasn't even read \"are you there, god, it's me Margaret\"

@ Last Conformist: Yes, I mean \"natural\" as \"in accordance with the conditions we've evolved in for most of the last several million years.\" Someone very close to me has recently gotten suckered into the \"Natural\" Hygene/Raw Food quackery, so I've gotten to hear all sorts of weird claims. She looked much better and healthier when she was a more ordinary vegitarian.

To be a little clearer about my first statement, I thought that all human societies have been cooking food for millions of years, regardless of the amount of meat, eggs, and dairy consumed. Veganism is fine and healthy for those who can, it's just the 100% raw food part that I think is unnatural for our species.
