Quote# 90705

[The CEO of Murray Energy, a coal mining corporation, read this prayer to his employees the day after the election.]

Dear Lord:

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, away from the principals of our Founders. And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance.

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.

My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like or might have been. They will pay the price in their reduced standard of living and, most especially, reduced freedom.

The takers outvoted the producers. In response to this, I have turned to my Bible and in II Peter, Chapter 1, verses 4-9 it says, “To faith we are to add goodness; to goodness, knowledge; to knowledge, self control; to self control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.”

Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build. We ask for your guidance in this drastic time with the drastic decisions that will be made to have any hope of our survival as an American business enterprise.

Amen.

[He then laid off 156 people.]

You're one of the takers, though I suspect you did not vote for Obabma. Way to go douche bag.

Classy. Blame Obama for something that hasn't happened yet, then use that to excuse your own actions. And dress it up as a prayer to avoid criticism. You, sir, are scum.

What's the odds he would have laid those employees off anyway... only now he's got the perfect excuse.

I don't know that much about American job protection laws, but this can't be legal. I hope he gets sued by all 156 of them.

Blah blah blah I'm gonna be a dick to my workers because they voted in the wrong candidate blah blah blah.

Do the US have a law against unjustified layoffs?

"Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build."

So you didn't build that, God helped you (in the form of inferstructure, tax breaks, etc.).

The mind boggles at how anyone could think Romney had the superior economic plan, considering that he wouldn't even explain the details of it.

11/14/2012 6:00:37 AM

@ UHM

It's perfectly legal. Most states have "at will" employment laws, meaning you have a job at the will (read: whim) of your employer, and s/he can fire you any time s/he damn well pleases.

If you have some discrimination claim (age, gender, etc.), you might get to sue on those grounds, but good luck proving it in court; it's nearly impossible. All these people can do is file for unemployment insurance and move on.

11/14/2012 6:24:04 AM

This is evil and vindictive beyond belief--trying to make his lies appear true to punish his employees and most important, to have an effect on the next election. No wonder he's praying for forgiveness.

Isn't this the company who had lightning strike inside a coal mine that caused an explosion? Looks like they didn't learn their lesson.

@ UHM:

Also, Mr. Murray is not claiming to fire employees who voted for Obama. If he did, those employees would definitely have an actionable case.

Because the problem with coal in America at the moment totally has nothing to do with cheap and abundant supplies of gas from the shale beds.

11/14/2012 7:01:45 AM

Demand for coal is dropping in the U.S. because the older, more costly and polluting power plants are being shut down or retrofitted to natural gas. Right now we have ample production of natural gas so prices are down which is spurring companies to go ahead and make the change-overs.

The coal business is declining and Murray Energy Corp. is declining with it, but that isn't the fault of President Obama. Murray would have soon laid these people off regardless, he just chose to turn it into political grandstanding while he was at it.

Jeebus Antichrist is what I call the Jesus that fundie bigots worship. He looks like Chuck Norris, totes a machine gun, wears a robe made of camo and the U.S. Flag, hoards tons of cash & has Ayn Rand as his Anti-Madonna & Ann Coulter as his Anti-Magdalene.

So, Mr Murray does not believe in the free market and wanted a government that would have kept his business going with a handout or tax cuts, financed by the public?

Socialist scum…

Doubting Thomas

Oh sure. Lay off 156 people and then blame it on Obama, even though his second term won't start for two months. How much you wanna bet he secretly found 156 Obama voters to lay off?

He has just cemented by already set-in-bedrock belief that all Republicans are just greedy, heartless scum.

This is one of those times when I lament that there is no hell.

This does help to prove just how reprehensible some/most republicans/theocrats really are. This will eventually blow up in his face; somehow. I'm sure the CEO of chik-fil-a didn't foresee all the ruckus about his gay marriage statements & look how that turned out.

Give them enough rope & they will eventually hang themselves.
