Dear Bob,
The Founding Fathers have no freaking clue what you're talking about.

I don't know whether to be more disgusted or more impressed by his actions. Seriously, this sounds like some shit a fucking cliche super-villain would pull to pass the time. But I guess this just means that republicans are living their stereotypes to the fullest, as sad as that is.

"Amen."
[
He then laid off 156 people.]

Welp,
there's 156 more Democrat voters, then.

Nothing says love like laying people off and forcing them to live under a lower standard of living just so you can line your pockets.
We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness
Jesus was all for redistribution and he loved the weak.

Can 156 people sue this man for firing them for nonsensical reasons? If not, I think it should be done.

There's been a small shitload of stories like this since the election, also bullshit seceed petitions galore. All I see is petty cart before the horse grandstanding.
Nothing changed after the election,,,nothing,,,and very little will change in the next three months. Y'all got your marching orders premeturely.
Settle down until the at least the race of 2014 already. Also this repeated self-fullfilling attitude of "It's gonna get worse if Obama's re-elected, I'm making it my business to make it worse."

Unbelievable that he, as a CEO, imagines himself a "producer" and the people working for him, ie, the people actually mining the coal, he considers "takers".
Is it not in fact directly the other way round?

I hear the words of Christ, the one I used to think of when I was a child (Back when I was a believer) that spur me to my great need to take of those less fortunate of myself. And you... you?
You use it to justify cutting off people?
You insane, self-deluded fucker. Can't even your own religions demands yet you assume you still can speak for it. I hope, if there's a hell, your betrayal and false prophetering earns you the lowest circle.

You know, Canada has higher taxes and socialist healthcare, and they don't seem to have these massive economic catastrophes you're predicting.

Matthew 19:21 - "If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven"
The sad thing is, the poor laid-off employees are probably ignorant enough to believe it's all Obama's fault, and not the fact that natural gas has become dirt-cheap and doesn't require expensive emissions controls to avoid dumping crap in everybody else's air.

"My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like"
Those children will never get to work long hours in conditions of filth and misery for a pittance. They will never experience being crushed by rocks, blown up or gassed or to worry that their loved ones might be killed at work or school when a spoil heap collapsed. They will never know what it is to die a slow, painful death from silicosis. Oh, the humanity.

"Dear God. Gotta lay off a few people to afford the place in Aspen. Friendsies? KTHXBAI!"
Way to justify shitcanning a bunch of people to satsfy your profit margin.
So tell me, when this comes to pass, are you offering their jbs back, with retroactive seniority and pay?
No, no of course you're not.

His mines still aren't up to fed safety standards, and they've given him extentions since the accidents. He's already shown that he could not care less if his workers die in cave-ins. Fuck him.

I don't know that much about American job protection laws, but this can't be legal. I hope he gets sued by all 156 of them.
Not in the US no, most states have little to no protection of workers, you are there at the behest of the employer who can do what the fuck they want with you. Many states are even what is called
"Right to work" states which basically gives you even LESS rights!

The coal industry is suffering because of normal free market pressures. Natural Gas has become cheaper than coal as a means of heating and electric power generation, due to a new drilling practice called "fracking". Fracking has its own environmental concerns, to be sure, but the point is that this is an example of normal free market effects that these jerks love to sing the praises of. He's just doing a layoff he was going to have to do anyway, and lying about the reasons for it.

This is the same sociopathic dick who killed six miners in Utah by ignoring safety violations.
He's the same dick who forced workers to attend a Romney campaign rally. They were not paid and were then required to make up the "time off."

Well, from others' comments this guy sounds like a major POS as well as a hypocrite. What he's done should damn well be illegal! In fact, I'm pretty sure the Romney fundraiser thing is illegal. I can't believe unfair dismissal laws barely exist in the States. Can't one of you Yanks somehow fix it? :(
Also, a side note: Guys like this rarely love the free market as much as they claim. They love the current orientation of the market, which is free-market when it favours the rich and managed market when that favours the rich. NAFTA, for example, was heavily criticised by some libertarian sorts for being anti-free trade; it was just out-and-out biased towards the American rich's interests. This guy would indeed sing the praises of the free market, and then throw a hissy fit and demand corporate welfare when the market doesn't favour him. But he's not a taker, oh no.
