Quote# 90716

[Free Republic actually pens an open letter to the Queen of England following Obama's victory.]

Your Majesty,

We, the people of the former American colonies, would like to offer our most sincere apology over that little misunderstanding we had 236 years ago. Had we known that we were going to be subjects anyway, we could have saved a lot of trouble and hard feelings.

We were under the mistaken belief that we would be free, sovereign citizens; we believed that our hard work would yield its own rewards without someone coming along and taking what we built in the name of “Fairness”. We thought our laws and Constitution would protect us from a foreign born dictator, and our freedom to worship would prevent us from becoming a corrupt, morally bankrupt society (silly us).

Little did we know that our own free press would intentionally sabotage, deceive and withhold the truth from us in order to reelect a Socialist that still holds distain for our nation and contempt for its founding principles. Nor did we believe that there would be so many citizens dependent on government handouts that they would blindly elect an unqualified charlatan, let alone reelect him.

Anyway, Your Grace, we are truly sorry and humbly sincerely beg your forgiveness. If you can find it in your heart to forgive us and take us back, we promise never to trade British oppression for Socialist tyranny again.

Your most humble servants,

The American People

Skios:

The Head of Government in the United Kingdom is the elected Prime Minister, currently David Cameron. Her Majesty the Queen is the Head of State, which is more of a ceremonial position.

So, by your definition, The UK is a republic.

@kiwimac

for the sake of pedantry, it is "your majesty" or "ma'am"

"Highness! is reserved for princes and princesses (and the archdukes/duchesses of the Russuan and Austro-Hungarian empires)

11/14/2012 6:53:42 AM

actually, the US would be WAY better off rejoining britain. then they'd have free healthcare, elections that make sense, and a figurehead with veto power over anything the government does, that
(generally) cares about the well being of the people.

also dry, clever humor, and the best news organization in the world.

Y'know; It never crossed these goober's mind that The UK in the 18th Century & The UK in the 21st Century are like TOTALLY DIFFERENT COUNTRIES!

18th CENTURY BRITAIN - The King and/or Queen is/are the head of state, supreme Monarch & main lawmaker. It is a vast & very powerful empire that rules many lands such as those in Africa, Asia & Australia. Church & State are linked & it's a very conservative, uptight society.

21st CENTURY BRITAIN - The King and/or Queen is/are merely a figurehead/aristocrat/relic of the past whose lawmaking & ruling powers are nil, they're basically anthropomorphized tourist destinations & tabloid fodder. Britain is simply an Island with three little countries making one big country who don't rule any other lands (though Canada is a commonwealth). There's no Church/State link, they're pretty Liberal in many ways, there's heavy gun control & socialized medicine. Only really old people are uptight & even that's not a given. There's also a history of vibrant, wild, weird & funky youth culture and awesome rock music. There's weird & wonderfully bizarre comedy like The Goon Show, Monty Python, The Young Ones, Blackadder & The Mighty Boosh.

Finally, Queen Elizabeth 2, unlike King George 3, didn't go totally insane to the point of non-functioning. King George would be in the heaviest part of the psychiatric ward if he were alive, today.

Oh, and there's over 230+ years between them.

Writing to QE2 for this reason would be like writing to Norway due to their "mighty, rugged, bloodthirsty, Viking warrior culture".

Freepers are very stupid people.

If someone would take the time to explain to this moron the political and social structure of the UK, he would most likely splutter “Socialism, Communism, Marxism!” before his head would explode…

And this even before they could explain to him how strict the gun laws in the UK are.

But, Dubbya wasn't a Socialist, surely? All the other characteristics fit so well with him, though, it can't be anyone else.

"Little did we know that our own free press would intentionally sabotage, deceive and withhold the truth from us in order to reelect a Capitalist that still holds distain for our nation and contempt for its founding principles. Nor did we believe that there would be so many citizens dependent on government fables that they would blindly elect an unqualified charlatan, let alone reelect him."
There, now it looks much better!

Doubting Thomas

The funny thing is that if liberals were saying this after a Romney victory, then all the conservatives would be running around calling us anti-American traitors.

And does this idiot not know that Great Britain has socialized medical care and strict gun control laws?

I once remember while in the UK we were driving along listening to the radio when a news report talked about a drug bust in which "numerous types of drugs were found, and a gun." We laughed because they emphasized "and a gun," when here in the US it's pretty much a given that a drug house will also have numerous weapons. But I couldn't imagine any blue-collar Republican wanting to live anywhere where their guns aren't just allowed, but celebrated.

you know the UK is even more "socialist" then Obama, right?

Also, the Queen is just a ceremonial figure and has no real political authority.

Wintermute: Fair enough. I guess the finer details got lost in translation. My country is officially a constitutional monarchy, but we do have the same distinction between head of government and head of state. Shouldn't have been so lazy in copy/pasting from dictionary.com I guess.

Is this a joke!?

This can't be real. I can't even find words to describe just how utterly fucking stupid this is.

His candidate lost & now he wants to rejoin?

Would the crown even WANT the US back, considering what a disaster we are now?

I think I'm going to be sick. The idiocy is making me ill.

It is odd. I could understand the liberals wanting to come over here, but the Republicans? Even the Conservative party is to the left of the Democrats. I mean, I know this is meant to be some kind of satire, but this is poor. Seriously, you don't need to worry. Your country is essentially right wing. Unless you'd rather live in a dictatorship, you're pretty much fine for the foreseeable future, whoever is your president. Even... gasp... a black man!

"Your Majesty,

We, the people of the former American colonies, would like to offer our most sincere apology over that little misunderstanding we had 236 years ago." tl;dr...

That's quite alright, and apology accepted. I know how you feel, seeing as my country used to have great power and miltary/financial influence, as expressed worldwide via the British Empire.

But all great powers fall - No Exceptions - and we realised that only too late, especially post-WWII. We as a nation were humbled. Britain now knows it's place. As now do you, o Republicans of the United States of America. Like I say: All great powers fall. No Exceptions. As was our time in the past, now it is yours. Accept it with dignity, and with the good grace of a defeated people.

You may now proceed to hand over the keys of the White House, Capitol Building & Supreme Court to my Prime Minister, David Cameron. Also, hand over what you refer to as 'The Football', the case-like device with the launch & authentication codes to the biggest nuclear arsenal on the planet to my Minister of Defence; also your armed forces must now swear eternal allegiance to me, and to Great Britain and the Commonwealth.

Yours,

Elizabeth R.

PS- I am gratified that your president Barack Obama won his second term, and not that frightfully tedious little pipsqueak of a Moron Mormon, Mittens Romney. I mean, just imagine the diplomatic disaster if he'd been elected, and came here for his first state visit?! Not even my palace guardsmen would have been able to fend off Mayor Boris Johnson for that remark he made at our 2012 London Olympics; 'Britain isn't ready'? Even Philip - with his Greek racialist Tourettes - would never have said that!

PPS- You must excuse me. The corgis need their exercise.

I wonder how much of this is a joke, and how much is them ignoring that England and the rest of the UK for that matter have long since moved on from those days?

Boy aren't you the patriotic one. It's funny how when Bush was president we're supposed to love America, never question the president, and be ideal patriots. But as soon as Obama becomes president it's okay to constantly bash him for everything he does (and things he never did) and threaten to secede or, in this case, give the country back to Great Britain. Granted, I wouldn't mind living under the laws of the more secular and liberal Britain but the double standard annoys me.

Pretty much, yeah.

These idiots fail at more than just loyalty and patriotism. Compared to how much these fuckers fail at life/intelligence, the former two are inconsequential.

Actually, I think W had Tony Bliar half- convinced that if "the Stars and Stripes were quartered with the Union Jack" (to quote the fly-eating Renfield), they could jointly re-establish that Empire on which the sun never used to set...though the tail would have been wagging the grinning little yap-dog.
