So, what is the point of life? If happiness isn't the point of life, be grateful we make you unhappy.

What's so great about having your only purpose in life be groveling before a being which may or may not answer your prayers in hopes that after you die you get to grovel before it for all eternity?
11/17/2012 8:00:25 AM
So the choice is, happiness or God. Ooooh, that's a toughy!
11/17/2012 8:12:27 AM
Didn't your founding fathers call pusuit of hapiness a god-given right?
11/17/2012 8:31:50 AM
But isn’t it the point? What more could our feeble little mammalian minds possibly get out of existence before we’re snuffed out? What more could anyone ask for than a life of joy, camaraderie, and a rewarding career?
That's not to say one should be a wild hedonist that consumes an excess of every worldly pleasure that crosses his before spectacularly burning out and dieing young. I'm sure that kind of existence is pretty hollow once you run out of fun things to do and/or get hooked on hard drugs. But that's not something I'd call happiness either.
11/17/2012 8:32:58 AM
Presumably, that's why christians are so fucking miserable then.
11/17/2012 8:37:45 AM
This guy's not happy unless he's not happy.
11/17/2012 8:41:02 AM
So, crabbiness is next to godliness?
I'll take Halloween & happiness over The Demiurge, any day.
11/17/2012 8:49:39 AM
I think Frankie is confused. You're supposed to get happiness when you come to God, thus rejection of God is a rejection of satisfying happiness. What I was taught at least.
I can't say I was ever satisfied in religion, but I'm still not. But that mostly because my boyfriend and I cant' live together. I sads.
I was confused for a second, I thought it was Blogger Frank Viola. Didn't realize it was a random commentor. Stuff stands, but thought Frank was a pretty sane voice from the evangelical community.

Reject Bible God = Find Happiness.
Good to know.
11/17/2012 9:52:59 AM
I'd rather be happy for my allotted "three score years and ten" than miserable in the hope that some giant bigot in the sky will grant me some sort of weird eternal existence spent with a bunch of fundie nutjobs.
11/17/2012 10:11:50 AM
My purposes in life are my family, my job, my friends and my community. They are quite real, not false. I also find them quite satisfying. I realize this is the part where you puff out your chest and sneer, "you only think you're happy."
That observation would carry more weight if your lot weren't constantly whining "Oh I soooo hate this world! Jezuz please come soooon!"
11/17/2012 10:21:06 AM
Very telling. Conversely, what happens when you "accept God" is the masochistic satisfaction of being miserable.
11/17/2012 11:23:33 AM
You've heard it from the Fundies.
They actually want everyone to be as angry and miserable as they are.
11/17/2012 11:40:18 AM
"life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
11/17/2012 11:52:54 AM
I think happiness is by definition satisfying.
11/17/2012 12:04:39 PM
Nice to see a fundy admit that "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" was written into the Declaration of Independence by people who weren't Christians. Another unamerican teabagger.
11/17/2012 1:14:49 PM
You're working against yourself, Frank. When you leave the room, everybody is happy.
11/17/2012 2:33:42 PM
As if happiness is he point of life.
Then why do double standard new born christians always run around with a fake smile plastered on there faces pretending to be in a permanent state of elation because they've (supposedly) been washed in the blood of the lamb, aka "saved".
11/17/2012 5:23:54 PM
It's just a bunch of little kids dressing up like princesses and animals or whatever, and going out to get candy. And you're telling them they're rejecting God?
11/17/2012 5:43:34 PM
The point of life is to be fundie even if it makes you completely miserable then?
Man I now understand conservatives so much better.
11/17/2012 6:59:36 PM
The point of life for you is to live in subservience to a being you have never seen, never heard, but whose supposed word is in direct contradiction with the way the world works.
You seem to be under the impression happiness makes you reject your god. Well, have fun living a miserable life.
11/18/2012 12:57:40 AM
Well that explains why you're all a bunch of miserable, whiny assholes, despite all that "joy" you claim to find in Jesus. Yes, happiness does matter. It's healthier, more productive and leads to a more peaceful world.
Happy people are also less likely to finger-point and meddle in other people's lives, which also explains a lot of fundie and Conservative behavior.
11/18/2012 2:46:23 AM
Happiness is unsatisfying? That's a contradiction in terms.
11/18/2012 5:53:12 PM
Well, thanks for explaining why we should reject your god, Frank. Saves us atheists a lot of trouble.
