If he's old enough to be a Grandpa, he should be old enough to understand that celestial bodies sometimes collide. (What kind of God would allow that?) A comet collided with Jupiter just a few years ago. Get a big enough comet/asteroid/whatever to slam into a planet, and you can change it's orbital characteristics.
Not to mention, the planets do all orbit in the same direction. (At least, the ones around our sun do.)

See, it wouldn't be an explosion if everything moved in the same direction and velocity afterward ...
In fact, by conservation of momentum things *had* to fly out in opposite directions.

Big bang center of origen? Is that anything like the Cosmic Microwave Background Aquinas?

The Big Bang was unfortunately named. Even when you ignore the sexual innuendo in the term, it makes the layman think it was an explosion from some central point in the universe. It was not.
On the one hand, I can sympathize with folks like this having difficulty with the concept. The origins of the universe are completely outside of our experience. It takes a whole lot of mental work to wrap your head around the subject.
On the other hand, if you are going to make arguments against it you really need to do that mental work and understand what you are talking about. Grandpa clearly hasn't and doesn't.

actually, moonbiter, the term \"Big Bang\" was a derogatory phrase coined to discredit the idea (can't remember who it was - anyone?) - so, yes, it's wrong.

TDR,
It was Sir Fred Hoyle that coined that term in a denegrating way, only to have his steady state widely rejected in favor of the 'big bang'..which is in fact a misleading term.

Why would they all spin in the same direction?

@Darth Wang: Because they got their angular momentum from the original rotation of the solar nebula. The planets that don't spin in the \"main\" direction do so due to tidal locking (Venus) or collision (Uranus).

The Argument is stupid and dates back over 40 years.
Fundie argument:
The big bang was spinning and EVERYTHING thrown off from it MUST spin in the same direction.
Fundie science:
Everything has done and does the same thing for eternity.
Fundie FAIL:
Shit happens is my Theory, and it's supported by all sciences as it never fails but for this one there is the OBVIOUS answer. Collision is a given.
