Quote# 90970

[About a bumper sticker that says "Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich".]

I don’t understand. Global warming is a religion. Homosexuality has become a religion. Entitlement has become a religion. Claiming special privilege because of race, gender, and political party is a religion. And most or perhaps all of these ‘religions’ encourage killing the rich or at least punishing the rich or anybody else who has something that the practitioners want.

Since Christianity gets stronger when one takes the religion out of Christianity, the banner really doesn’t apply to Christianity. And Christianity if practiced according to a Christ-centered Bible-based faith can not
tolerate murder and hate. In all of this Christians are in the world but not of it.

Yet one would suppose this is aimed at Christians.

Have you noticed how they label movements they don't like as religions, but then they deny that Christianity is a religion, instead saying it's a "relationship". Even better when they say Islam isn't a religion but a political ideology. It's like they actually live in a bizarro world where everything is the opposite.

Christianity does get better without religion. Without large scale organisation and without Dogma, you stop as many good people doing and saying as many horrible things as possible.

It's actually a verbatim quote from Napoleon. Since he used religion to avoid getting murdered (for a while) he knows the truth of that quote.

Wow, that sounds like a horribly disconnected state to be in ...

God damn it, they should make a law mandating a dictionary be given free with every bible so these dumb bastards can look up what words actually mean!

This is what happens when one of the biggest news networks starts redifining words.

You have a rather loose definition of 'religion'. By your reasoning the cult around the new My Little Pony series (bronies) is also a religion.

Bullshit.

That is all I can think of to say.

Snowsnake makes the case that religions mostly lack clear structure, have little time for worship and present arguments based on evidence. Faith and holy texts, apparently, have nothing to do with religion.

What about the parts of the Bible where god commands his followers to kill? And religions need a deity and dogma. Which Christianity has. To take out the religion it becomes a political ideology

No, none of those things are religions. You don't get to call something a religion just because you dislike it. And if you propose that Christianity isn't a religion (which it fucking is), then give up your tax breaks.

"Christ-centered Bible-based faith"= Protestant fundamentalism.
How do you "take the religion out of Christianity?" What are you left with?

It's good to read that the Christians are now against claiming special privilege. That must mean that they'll start paying taxes and stop trying to get their idiotic ideas taught in schools.

Yes I can see that you don't understand.

Here is the beginning of understanding. Everything you posted is wrong.

Calling for the rich to pay more taxes, when they are perfectly capable of paying a lot more and not descending into poverty, is a far cry from murdering them. And while you and Mitt may consider using that tax money to prevent the poor from starving to be a "gift" that they don't deserve, the majority of Americans would consider that a humane deed that enforces their right to life.

I loved Warren Buffett's op-ed in the NY Times the other day. Basically he said that he was profiting quite nicely when the top-tier tax rate was 91%, that he has always made a handsome profit no matter what the tax rate was, and that no investor has ever said "the taxes are too high, I'd rather leave my money in my savings account making 0.25% interest." It's really rather sad how the extremely rich have gotten so many of the poor and middle class incensed over the fact that the extremely rich will have to pay a few million more per year in taxes instead of hoarding it.

Don't try to weasel out of your religion with that "personal relationship with Jesus" crap or else we'll pass laws banning personal relationships with Jesus or making you pay taxes on it, and it will be perfectly constitutional since it's not a prohibition of a religion.

I just love how faith and religion are good things until fundies use them to apply to people they don't like, such as "It takes more faith to be an atheist than a Christian."

Television has become a religion, lampshades have become a religion, toasters have become a religion, going to school has become a religion, driving a truck has become a religion, eating fatty food has become a religion, watching movies has become a religion, walking around has become a religion, taking a shower has become a religion, exercising has become a religion, grocery shopping has become a religion, reading books has become a religion, remodeling one's house has become a religion, going to concerts has become a religion, sweeping the streets has become a religion, being a cop has become a religion, drinking beer has become a religion, being in jail has become a religion, posting on FSTDT has become a religion, everything else in the world is a religion! Except Christianity, that is. That's just a relationship with Jesus. Just not a gay one because that would also be a religion.

"Since Christianity gets stronger when one takes the religion out of Christianity,"

Yes, Christianity is so much easier to practice when you remove Christ's teachings from it.

Example: How many Christians do you know who:
1. Keep kosher?
2. Love their enemies?
3. Give everything they own to the poor?

Thought so...
