Quote# 91215
More than that, [gays being wed at the West Point Chapel] has apocalyptic significance.
This may be "the abomination of desolation spoken of in the Book of Daniel." Those were the words of Jesus, referring to some future event after which a huge catastrophe would occur.
Other internet people have made a note of this, that gay marriage is 'the abomination of desolation' but, standard Bible commentary on 'the abomination of desolation' is that it represents the pagan Romans putting up statues of their gods to worship in the Temple of Jerusalem around 60 AD.
Let the reader decide: Which is the greater abomination?
If you have been inside this wonderful chapel, it is so impressive, as is West Point, that it defies description. The whole campus, especially this building, embodies virtue and morality more than anything. You get the impression West Point is a religious shrine. And this chapel is the greatest focus.
For these two lesbians and their misguided family and friends (and the officiating pastor) to do this is inflammatory and needs to be protested.
Shame on these heathens and shame on the officer corps of the USA.
May they burn in hell.
caddie,

Well the greater abomination is homophobes who hate their fellow countrymen and countrywomen.
You're welcome, caddie.

Not letting gays marry is the greater abomination.

"standard Bible commentary on 'the abomination of desolation' is that it represents the pagan Romans putting up statues of their gods to worship in the Temple of Jerusalem around 60 AD."
Here "standard" bible commentary = fundamentalist bible commentary. Daniel was probably written during the Maccabean revolt around 160BCE. The abomination of desolation was Antiochus Epiphanes IV (a total bastard of the highest order)parking a statue of Zeus in the temple. Dan's good at predicting the future when it's already happened, but goes awry when he starts to make proper predictions.
Also your anti gay drivel makes me sick.

Meanwhile, here in Washington State, happy couples are getting married and things appear to be ticking along quite nicely. If an apocalypse occurred, perhaps we were too stoned to notice?

What's inflammatory is your disgusting bigotry towards your fellow human beings. I'd almost want you to protest the event just to keep showing the world how awful people like you really are, but I wouldn't want the couple to have to put up with you.

Let the reader decide: Which is the greater abomination?
Seriously? You honestly consider the actual "house of god" (as the Temple was referred to) being desecrated to be less of an abomination than two gays being married in a chapel that is not officially dedicated to any specific religion?
I mean, I get you hate gays. I really do (I think your an ass because of it, but I do understand it). But do you really have such a fixation on this that you consider gay marriage to be worse than what was an actual, real attack on Israel's faith?

Yeah, this probably makes sense. Why would the biblical writers be talking about the Romans taking over the temple in Jerusalem, which was an event from their time? Clearly they were writing about how a military academy would hold a same-sex marriage two thousand years in the future.
This must be the "literal" interpretation of the bible I've always heard about.

People in Africa are hacking each other to death with machetes, a storm just caused $20 billion in damage in the Northeast US, a quarter of the people in Spain and Greece are unemployed, the Fukushima disaster is leaking radiation into the Pacific food chain, Israel and Palestine are on the brink of touching off a Middle Eastern war and Caddie thinks gay marriage is the worst thing happening to the world?

How about that I think it is an abomination that there is a school dedicated to teaching young men and women to fight and kill in wars?
That killing can be sanctioned by a church or chapel is the true evil here.

Book of Daniel = Old Testament
Jesus = New Testament
As for West Point, it's a federal owned building and a part of government.

Way I see it, two lesbians marrying at Westpoint's chapel restores dignity to a profane and unholy sanctum of heteronormality. It is the will of the Flying Spagethi Monster those two were married at Westpoint. Ramen.
