I’ve been praying for God to bring us some sign of impending doom. This world is becoming woefully bizarre and absurd in almost every way.

Everything I’ve learned and been taught in my life is now “abnormal.” Life without debt? Preposterous! Married to a woman for life? Outrageous! Kids raised in a home with a man and a woman? Laughable! Eat a home cooked meal at a dining room table with the TV off? So passé!

There’s nothing left for me to aspire to. There’s nothing great to look forward to. This is what the hedonists and sodomites want. They want us to be equal in their misery. Socialism is about shared poverty.

And guess what? Before your time, all of those things you listed would have appeared outrageous too!

Life without debt? More like life without property! some of your ancestors probably owned no more than the shirts on their backs.

Married to a woman for life? Back in the day it wasn't uncommon to keep several mistresses, depending on how much game the man had.

Kid raised in the home by a man and a woman? In Roman times the man could spend whole years away at war and not see his wife and child all that time. Even as recently as Victorian times many men went away to work in the factories and the only sign of them was the money they sent back (that hadn't been spent on booze, of course)

Eat a home cooked meal at a dining table with the TV off? The Romans and Greeks would have lounged around on couches watching live plays or having debates about things.

That's all you aspire to? A misguided vision of 50s domesticity? What you're describing is a very narrow vision of a life that existed briefly in the mid 20th century. Not what has happened throughout history, or what should be considered 'normal'.

Debt is quite normal in the modern world unless you paid cash for your house and car, and don't own a credit card.

The ability to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage is progress.

Single parents are able to raise their children perfectly well. I assume though, that this is a reference to gay couples, in which case, let's see your evidence. I've seen a gay couple raise a delightful child in our village.

Now, eating a home cooked meal at the table with the TV off, I agree with. But not doing so is hardly tantamount to impending doom.

To suggest that hedonists want there to be nothing to look forward to is to demonstrate a total lack of uderstandig of the word 'hedonist'.

As for sodomy, have a word with Mrs rarestia, it IS Saturday night after all...

Lifestyles are like food, nobody has the same taste. So don't force others to eat apple pie just because you're looking forward to it.

By the way, that you let others do something does not mean that you have to do it too. Nobody made a law that outlaws living and not being in debt, being married for the same woman your entire life, raising your kids with said wife or eating a home cooked meal with your family. We're not telling you to go out and have gay sex. It is not our fault if your wife wants a divorce, it is not our fault if your kids don't want to be with you and it's not our fault that somebody fucked you over into debt.

That, ladies and gentlemen (and Rarestia), is pretty much all that I witness from Rarestia's claim that is actually happening these days kids and middle-aged adults ubiquitously eating alone at fast-food joints and food courts.

As for the rest, I frankly think Rarestia is mistaken. Life without debt is unlikely: we are indebted to multiple societal and financial units. Everything else appears to be 'acceptable' social behaviour (till death do us part, heterosexual parents) that was never under attack to start with.

If there be a God or Gods, I can only hope that He / They provide us hope rather than wrath, love rather than hate.

I'm doing it. Though, nearly everyone who bought a house is in debt to the bank that lend them the money to allow them to buy said home. It's called a mortgage, and the concept has been around for quite some time.

Depends on the household, but as soon as the TV was introduced houeholds have been eating while watching. It's not exactly a cornerstone of family life.

How about aspire to be a descent human being? To rid yourself of as many wrong beliefs as possible? To become less bigoted? To advance your knowledge of science? To brew your own beer/wine/mead/kombucha/tea? To do more to help your fellow human beings?

The end of the recession, maybe? Or to taste your own brew? the next transformers film?

OK, that last one I'll grant you isn't something to look foreward to.

... I don't know many people who watch tv, kids have been long raised in broken homes and many from lbgt households are straight as a whistle. I and most of the people I know (all Americans and most republicans), in addition to feeling that we should uphold liberty in this country even if it allows people to disagree with their morals, are committed to their relationships, and I have no debt... and neither do any but 2 of them.

If I want a fascist state, I'de move to Egypt or Palestine or Turkey where religion is alive and well as it tries to rule the people. They are less sinful than us right?

I am 27 years old, male, and a middle class professional. I have no desire to be with another male and the idea disgusts me to some degree. I regularly enjoy outdoor activities with my friends, and intend to do so with my children. I smoke, drink, and uphold very high standards of morality (not the redneck sort, I'm also a non preaching vegetarian that is ok with eating horses that have to be put down if we eat cows. I am an individual,... just like you and everyone else. Generalizing really sucks as a way to understand the world.

Hey, at least we aren't living in the middle age Papacy. THOSE were sinful times with lots of sodamy to go around, coupled with rape, theft, etc. conducted by the papal states... for that matter, so were the greek times, and the roman, and that horrible festival that christmas replaced (the reason it's not actually on the date of His birth.
