Quote# 91954

I’ve often said that, ‘Thank God for slavery,’ because, you know, had not, then the blacks over here would have been stuck in Africa… Everybody and their Mama are trying to get out of Africa and come to America and so God has a way of looking out for folks and He made it possible by way of slavery to get black folks into this country.

…I thank God that He saw fit for me to get here. Never mind that, you know, (my ancestors) were sold… by Arabs and blacks to white folks… The ride over was pretty tough but you know, it’s like riding on a crowded airplane when you’re not in First Class. It’s a tough ride. But you’re happy when you get to your desitination… I thank God that he got me here and to show my appreciation to the blacks who suffered as the result of coming here, and Arabs and blacks who sold us to the white man, the white man for going there and getting us and bringing us here, I want to say, ‘Thanks.’

"The ride over was pretty tough but you know, it’s like riding on a crowded airplane when you’re not in First Class."

Because we all know that ~10% of passengers die when not in First Class...

I'd be very disgusted with you if I were a victim of slavery. Since I am not, I'm just disgusted with you now.

Ah, I wonder which rich white man offered him money or backing, if he said this...

Doubting Thomas

Everybody and their Mama are trying to get out of Africa and come to America

Except, you know, the ones who were kidnapped from their villages and sold into slavery.

so God has a way of looking out for folks and He made it possible by way of slavery to get black folks into this country.

For a kind, compassionate, and loving god, he certainly had a fucked up way of doing it.

The ride over was pretty tough but you know, it’s like riding on a crowded airplane when you’re not in First Class.

You... can't be serious. I mean, actually comparing being crowded in and chained to a board for a few weeks for a trip across the ocean and running the risk of death to a crowded flight in coach class?

to show my appreciation to the blacks who suffered as the result of coming here, and Arabs and blacks who sold us to the white man, the white man for going there and getting us and bringing us here, I want to say, ‘Thanks.’

Yeah you say that as one who wasn't whipped into submission and forced to work in the fields while having your children sold and never seeing them again.

There's a big shock. Another "man of the cloth" shows himself to be a hateful bag of shit.

Not to mention that the corpses of these 10% are then dumped into the ocean and if the FAA or an Air Marshal try to control the plane all the passengers flying coach are thrown overboard while alive and chained together…

So yeah, Reverend, it’s exactly like that.

...so what's the difference between then, and now? And why aren't you saying this to the KKK, Aryan Nations, Tom Metzger et al?!

Oh, and such is the 'White Man's Burden', you poor thing. Yet, you would've said quite the opposite, re. the imperialism of the British Empire, wouldn't you?! Therefore what was the point of the Boston Tea Party...?!

Try and be consistent, right-wing fundies.

" Everybody and their Mama are trying to get out of Africa "

They were so desperate to get to America they were willing to wear chains during the trip.

"The ride over was pretty tough but you know, it’s like riding on a crowded airplane when you’re not in First Class. It’s a tough ride."

Usually you don't have half the passengers die on an airplane trip.

Okay, Revered(hind)end, it's most probable that without slavery, you would never have been born. Anywhere between 5 and 9 generations of your ancestors might never have met each other if they hadn't been treated, at times, worse than cattle - excepting the slaughterhouse at the end.

All that said, they will never make an "It's A Wonderful Life" movie about you, because the world would have been better off without you.

""Everybody and their Mama are trying to get out of Africa and come to America..."

Yeah, these days they are, perhaps because the lingering effects of western colonial policies have turned it into a shithole. Doubt it was that way centuries ago. It may be tough for your puny mind to grasp, Mr. Peterson, but times change, and so do the people in them.

History, BITCH!

Well, yeah, that's what he's saying thanks for -- the people who caused such terrible suffering and those who were the sufferers, so that he could have a cushy life today fleecing the sheep. It was those efforts to inflict cruelty and his ancestors who lived it that resulted in his being today a freeloading Uncle Tom of a douche.

So this omnipotent God who could blink anyone into America and give them a house instead chose to have those people be taken against their will, enslaved for generations, beaten, and denied their basic civil rights for two centuries instead? And this God is worthy of praise? If I gave a homeless person $100 but dropped it on the ground and took a shit on it and asked him to get it if he wants it I'd be considered an asshole. Even IF I just gave the homeless man $100. Yet when God does something similarly degrading we're supposed to praise him? No way!

@breakerslion & Fifth Dentist:

There is quite a big chance that, as a German born after 1945, if WWII and the Shoah would not have happened, my parents maybe wouldn’t have married or at least that I would not have been conceived.

But I would need to be an asshole of colossal dimensions to ever utter the words “Thank god for the Holocaust”, and so is the “good Reverend”. If this guy puts his own well-being above the deaths and hardships others (some of them his own ancestors) had to endure to get him there, he has no right to call himself a Christian. And I say this as an atheist.

I say we put Mr. Peterson in a time machine, let him be captured by slavers, and take the journey himself to see just exactly what his ancestors suffered.
