Quote# 93609

["As a bibliophile, I'm sure the gospels of John 1:18 and John 6:46 are familiar to you."]

One other thing. If you call any other Christian on this page a "bibliophile" I will ban you. Please show respect for your fellow species. Thanks.

["Ray I sincerely apologise for the use of the word 'bibliophile'. It means lover of books ...."]

Leonie, I'm the one who should be apologizing. I thought it was just another atheist insult, a cross between pedophile and Bible. My sincere apologies. Still learning. Best wishes.

[Emphasis added]

Well at least he admitted his error. You don't see that very often.

4/6/2013 6:14:01 PM

The fact that he doesn't know what a bibliophile is doesn't surprise me.

4/8/2013 3:24:51 AM

My 13 year old sister has a wider vocabulary than this 64 year old man.

4/8/2013 3:26:30 AM

Filin De Blanc

And this guy is what passes for a scholar among fundamentalists.

4/8/2013 3:28:12 AM

What the fuck ? He admitted and apologised for his error, so why display this ?

4/8/2013 3:36:47 AM

Meh. Not fundie, he admitted his mistake, just kind of clueless and in need of a thesaurus or remedial English.

4/8/2013 3:49:40 AM

It is, admittedly, uncharacteristically wise of Ray to apologize. But I still think this is worth FSTDT'ing, because Ray's assumption that anything he doesn't understand must be an insult is classic fundie.

4/8/2013 4:00:35 AM

Ever since the banana thing I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but still.

4/8/2013 4:04:01 AM

> Still learning.

Hey Ray, are you proud to say that, at your ripe age, you're just now learning words and concepts most people learn around age 12?

Could you perhaps even admit that you're a little bit behind times and not exactly as enlightened as you frequently pretend to be?

(Edit: Oh shit! Appropriate pun was *definitely* not intended. =( )

4/8/2013 4:06:26 AM

Not sure if this belongs on here (though Comfort does annoy the piss outta me).

4/8/2013 4:31:11 AM

Making mistakes is human, correcting them is laudable.
This isn't fundie.

4/8/2013 4:33:13 AM

Jezebel's Evil Sister

Making mistakes is human, correcting them is laudable.

Assuming a word you don't know is "just another atheist insult" is fundie in the extreme.

4/8/2013 4:44:31 AM

I know Bible means Book but from the context I would have maybe thought "Bible fan"

It is kinda telling that the fundie mind could just immediately go to "Bible molester". Perhaps if fundies would quit abusing the language they'd have a better grip on English and it's latin roots.

4/8/2013 4:45:56 AM

Doubting Thomas

Ray showing his ignorance again, like when he said his eyes don't have blind spots.

And yes, this is fundie for assuming that any word with the ending "-phile" has anything to do with pedophilia.

4/8/2013 4:53:45 AM

Mister Spak

Hey Ray, did you know words can have two meanings?

Now if you could take your banana fiasco to heart instaed of sweeping it under the rug . . .

4/8/2013 5:29:13 AM

@ Canadiest

Fairly sure bibliophile is from Greek, sorry, couldn't resist:D

4/8/2013 5:34:00 AM

Deep Search

LOL That's hilarious. Not simply because he didn't know what the word meant, but because he assumed it was bad and an "atheist insult." He just goes right for pedophile...

4/8/2013 5:43:52 AM

I think he probably should have said "monobibliophile".

4/8/2013 5:49:56 AM

The Crimson Ghost

Surprising humility from Comfort.

He's still an imbecile.

The stoooopid is strong with Ray....

4/8/2013 6:33:04 AM

Bahahahahahaha!!!! Fucking seriously?

4/8/2013 6:55:00 AM

Ray Comfort himself is a hell of a fundie, but this quote isn't itself a fundie quote.

We all know Comfort's vocabulary and reasoning ability is limited to around a middle school level. He could be forgiven in assuming "bibliophile" is an insult, and at least he apologized when corrected.

4/8/2013 6:57:30 AM

On one hand, at least he admitted his goof...

That said, said goof was ridiculous.

I would have assumed the insult he assumed was there would have involved being a "Bible-worshiper" rather than a "God-worshiper".

But, no...it's different...he assumes something in the vein of "kid-fiddler".

But what would you expect from "Banana Man" & his pretty-boy, former teen-idol fundie pal?

4/8/2013 7:01:06 AM

Leonie is calling herself a bibliophile, it seems. I don't think that was her intention, though.

"Show respect to your fellow species"? Christians aren't a separate species, last time I checked.

It's strange that Ray has never heard any word with the ending "-ophile". They are fairly commonplace, after all.
