Note: For those who have never read Interesting Ian before, he's not a stupid person in the least (he's earning his PhD in philosophy). But he *is* a boneheaded drunkard with a hard-on for psychics and the paranormal.

Does this mean that the existence of fictional stories in comic books is evidence that superheroes really exist?
Then when am I going to get my mutant powers, doggone it?!

Oh. OOOOOOOOOOOOOH. I read that as \"psychics\" as \"physics,\" was like \"WTF?\" and didn't realize my mistake until I went to the link and read closely.

I guess this means that the existence of all the phony Jesus' in mental hospitals is evidence of the real Jesus.
hmmm...just where does this type of thinking lead?

So if I claim to be able to turn people into toads, that makes it more likely that somewhere out there are people who actually CAN?
This is an amazing new principle of reality ... think of the implications!

I...uh...think I get his point. If there weren't police officers, no-one would be impersonating a police officer.
\"Impersonating a psychic.\" So, how much would that shift the onus of proof?

Someone said this Ian guy is not stupid. This, however, is a stupid statement. Who was it said \"Stupid is as stupid does?\" Oh, right, it was that Gump fellow.

Ian's a good guy. He does get mocked in the skeptic forums, but he's definitely not someone I would label as a \"fundie.\"

Analysing Ian
Ian's not a smart guy, he's a man whose READ a lot of smart guys, and knows how to arrange their words in pretty patterns... but his own ability to THINK FOR HIMSELF is quite, quite miniscule, as the above quote shows.
Indeed, you can read the JREF forums and find many, many examples of where Ian admits he doesn't know anything at all about a topic, but he then quite LITERALLY goes on to say \"... none the less it's clear my views are more sensible than yours.\"
He's also not a \"Good Guy\". He's someone who occasionally knows how to be Normal, which passes for good for most people, but actually spends most of his time on Skeptical boards being as Yahwah so accurately put it, a boneheaded drunkard. With all of the vices that traditionally come with alcohol abuse, like violent temper, paranoia, affections of misunderstood genius...
Still, as noted, he DOES occasionally find a really nice sentance to reuse, unlike most fundamentalist nonsense that get's pumped out daily. He just assumes it means to everyone else what he so desperately wants to believe it means to him. Which it never does.
