ummm - no it merely increases the chance of someone getting assy!

How clear? Crystal ball clear?

Note: For those who have never read Interesting Ian before, he's not a stupid person in the least (he's earning his PhD in philosophy). But he *is* a boneheaded drunkard with a hard-on for psychics and the paranormal.

Does this mean that the existence of fictional stories in comic books is evidence that superheroes really exist?
Then when am I going to get my mutant powers, doggone it?!
2/7/2006 12:57:07 AM
Oh. OOOOOOOOOOOOOH. I read that as \"psychics\" as \"physics,\" was like \"WTF?\" and didn't realize my mistake until I went to the link and read closely.
2/7/2006 1:04:40 AM
I guess this means that the existence of all the phony Jesus' in mental hospitals is evidence of the real Jesus.
hmmm...just where does this type of thinking lead?
2/7/2006 1:19:27 AM
<<Note: For those who have never read Interesting Ian before, he's not a stupid person in the least (he's earning his PhD in philosophy).>>
\"There is nothing so ridiculous but some philosopher has said it.\"
(The real one – not me)

Indeed it is clear to me that the existence of fraudulent jackalopes makes the existence of genuine jackalopes more likely.
2/7/2006 1:41:06 AM
WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAAT?!

Yeh right - and implants increase the likelihood that oddly misshapen breasts will occur naturally.
2/7/2006 5:27:02 AM
It just goes to show that people don't need low IQs to be stupid.

So if I claim to be able to turn people into toads, that makes it more likely that somewhere out there are people who actually CAN?
This is an amazing new principle of reality ... think of the implications!
2/8/2006 2:04:56 AM
never been there
I...uh...think I get his point. If there weren't police officers, no-one would be impersonating a police officer.
\"Impersonating a psychic.\" So, how much would that shift the onus of proof?
2/8/2006 2:07:13 AM
Julian: tell me more of these breasts
2/8/2006 3:55:25 AM
Someone said this Ian guy is not stupid. This, however, is a stupid statement. Who was it said \"Stupid is as stupid does?\" Oh, right, it was that Gump fellow.
2/8/2006 9:48:25 PM
Ian's a good guy. He does get mocked in the skeptic forums, but he's definitely not someone I would label as a \"fundie.\"
2/8/2006 10:03:13 PM
Ian's not a smart guy, he's a man whose READ a lot of smart guys, and knows how to arrange their words in pretty patterns... but his own ability to THINK FOR HIMSELF is quite, quite miniscule, as the above quote shows.
Indeed, you can read the JREF forums and find many, many examples of where Ian admits he doesn't know anything at all about a topic, but he then quite LITERALLY goes on to say \"... none the less it's clear my views are more sensible than yours.\"
He's also not a \"Good Guy\". He's someone who occasionally knows how to be Normal, which passes for good for most people, but actually spends most of his time on Skeptical boards being as Yahwah so accurately put it, a boneheaded drunkard. With all of the vices that traditionally come with alcohol abuse, like violent temper, paranoia, affections of misunderstood genius...
Still, as noted, he DOES occasionally find a really nice sentance to reuse, unlike most fundamentalist nonsense that get's pumped out daily. He just assumes it means to everyone else what he so desperately wants to believe it means to him. Which it never does.

God, I hope the Randians tear him apart.
2/20/2006 7:29:09 AM
The existence of Zeus and Odin make the existence of Jehovah more likely
2/21/2006 7:09:30 AM
It is clear to me that the existence of Pokemon games makes the existence of genuine Pokemon more likely.
10/2/2010 12:13:50 AM
Sorry, but "Fraudulent psychichs" is redundant.
10/2/2010 4:09:55 AM
Send me loads of fake cheques for a billion pounds then.

In the words of the Doctor,
1/21/2011 12:18:16 AM
Just as the existence of fradulent witches makes the existence of genuine witches more likely.
Or, you know, not.
