Quote# 95282

The statement "Jupiter is in the constellation Taurus" is a "description of reality," and it is true - for now (June 24, 2013). But next week, it will not be true. Jupiter will be in Gemini. If laws of logic were merely a "description of reality" as you suggest, then we would expect them to change with time, since reality changes with time. But they don't. Thus, your claim stands refuted

He's not even trying to sound coherent at this point.

"The moon is in the second house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, there'll be peace amongst the planets......"

Makes as much sense.

Lisle obviously thinks astronomy = astrology, which explains his "distant starlight" crap.

Statement isn't even true, as horoscopic 'houses' are not a description of reality.

Awwww, someone thought of something clever and forgot to check and see if it was bullshit. Hey, Lisle, it is the " laws of logic" that allowed you to make a prediction of Jupiter's movements. You are disproving your premise with your own example.

The statement "The sun is shining right now" is a "description of reality," and it is true - for now (14:05 local time). But in twelve hours, it will not be true. It will be dark. If laws of logic were merely a "description of reality" as you suggest, then we would expect them to change with time, since reality changes with time. But they don't. Thus, your claim stands refuted

Hm, sounds stupid, doesn't it?

Astronomy is not logic. Your claim stands refuted, as well as retarded.

Wasn't it a Bertie Wooster joke? "When I was in Germany I was surrounded by foreigners. No, I wasn't the foreigner. Truth isn't changed by geography."
But Jason is serious, which makes him the joke.

If astrology was a description of reality you might have had...err...some kind of point...maybe...okay, probably not. But since astrology is nothing but pseudoscience you fail right out of the gate. People threw a shit-fit when astrology FINALLY updated its chart to reflect the actual positions of the constellations. Science beat them to the punch by CENTURIES. And that's despite that fact that astrology was making MAJOR LIFE DECISIONS for people so, you know, you'd think a little thing like being accurate might be important.

My comment there...we'll see if it stays!

==============
I'm sorry, but this is the most stupid thing I've read all week.

Matter, time, chance, "deep time", etc. can't be "gods" because none of them are sentient! They aren't even living things like animals are.

Seriously: What drugs are you people on?

They are either processes like evolution, or just physical things like matter.

This is apparently a case of projection here: Theists assume that everyone must worship something, so if atheists don't worship the theist god, then they MUST worship something. Am I right?

When Lisle says:

The statement "Jupiter is in the constellation Taurus" is a "description of reality," and it is true - for now (June 24, 2013). But next week, it will not be true. Jupiter will be in Gemini. He doesn't understand either reality OR logic.
It's sunny right now, but soon it'll be dark is also a description of reality, and it's one that's actually true as opposed to that horoscope b.s.

One is a physical description of reality, and one is a logical description that is based on observations.

Yeesh. I like that clown's take on morality:

Regarding 2 Kings 2:24, we need to recognize that God judges the wicked. The critic might say, “But that judgment is too severe.” My reply is, “By what standard?” The critic has no basis for making any moral judgments at all. In his view, the two young men who were killed in 2 Kings 2:24 were simply chemical accidents. Besides, bears have to eat. Why does the critic complain that the Lord provided the bears with a full meal that day, rather than letting them starve? The fact that the critic values the lives of the people more than the bears shows that he really knows the biblical worldview is true. His criticism against Scripture is self-delusion.

Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars."

The first part, yes, in the sense that at the moment, Jupiter is in the same region of the sky as the constellation Taurus, not that this means anything except that Jovians who want to look at Taurus are in luck.

The second part... my mind is blown by your sheer stupidity.

Logic isn't a description of reality. Logic is a thought process that takes things, such as facts, which are descriptive of reality, into account.

Ok, let's take one example and use to prove others wrong. Yeah, what fun! Twist logic to a pulp and spit it out.

Ok:

The statement "the term of office for the American president is four years, eight if re-elected" is a "description of reality," and it is true - for now (July 1, 2013). But Elizabeth has been the Queen of England for 60 years. If terms for heads of state were merely a "description of reality" as you suggest, then we would expect them to last 4 or 8 years since the American presidency does. But they don't. Thus, Elizabeth is not the Queen of England.
